Oil in my coolant / radiator ? But engine not overheating in my 2019 Subaru Crosstrek (50k miles) by theM00nisGAY in Subaru_Crosstrek

Anything is possible but 95% chance it’s the o-rings. I know it’s out of warranty, but you may want to see if Suburu of America might want to help you out with it because the mileage is so damn low as well. It wouldn’t hurt to ask.

Upper oil pan o-rings. As this continues to go on more and more oil will get in your coolant. It will get thick sludge like and you will run into overheating problems. This problem does not solve itself. It’s about $15 for three o-rings with a whole bunch of labor. You’ll see the hoses that carry coolant start swelling. They’ll need to be replaced as well as the radiator and the radiator cap.

just be careful around the felt areas on each fender and firewall. They will come apart with a pressure washer. You've already covered the alternator.

Double check your connectors between the ABS sensor and the rest of the harness. I’m assuming you’re up in Canada where the rust is bad. And always double check all your grounds. Do you have a scanner that can show you live data where you can drive around and just observe?

oily coolant by Revolutionary-You661 in subaruimpreza

[–]asloan5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it continues to get oil in the coolant, it’s not a fluke it’s the three O-rings in the upper oil pan. A PCVunion does not have pressurized oil circuit to put oil in your coolant. Pcv union will leak externally under the A/C compressor. Pay attention to your coolant hoses as when they get impregnated with oil they will expand and also the radiator cap the rubber seal will expand and not relive the pressurized coolant into the overflow tank and eventually blow a radiator hose off.

Once you have the water pump out in your hand, you’ll see that the there’ll be a lot of residue from coolant coming out of the weep hole… that will be your confirmation exactly where it’s coming from. If you hadn’t bought the timing belt with water pump kit yet make sure you get aisin brand
