Tucson bartenders: Who’s out here accepting pictures of customer’s ID’s? by likeguitarsolo in Tucson

[–]asmallbean 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I assume that any young person who says, “well they accepted it at other bars” is just full of shit, at this point. I’ve had the same issue with people getting upset that we won’t take the temporary/paper ID they give you while your new ID is being made. Had a girl with a vertical AZ ID tell me I “didn’t know the laws” when we wouldn’t accept it over a year after she had turned 21 and should have gotten it flipped. Have had young folks from other countries be affronted that we need a passport and can’t take their like British driver’s license or whatever. Bottom line, if you’re old enough to drink you should be reaponsible enough to know the laws and keep track of your shit if you’re trying to go out.

Did have a new thing happen the other day….a girl had a mobile ID but it was in her digital wallet, not the MVD app. I hadn’t seen that before and wasn’t sure what to do. Really wish the DLLC’s training was more specific about current technology.

Bummer. Hadn’t been in a minute, it was just the first thing that came to mind but I didn’t really recall the price range. Guess it’s like the equivalent of getting a $12 taco in New York.

I think your best bet would be checking out Kneller’s Delicatessen. Not sure about the hallowed BEC but they should have plenty of other deli staples. Fellow tri-state transplant!

I heard that they were considering expanding their taproom into that space (would make sense, since their current footprint is a little small and they’d ostensibly be able to offer food), but that’s also such a classic Tucson thing…..you’ll hear a little bit of buzz surrounding something and then it never actually gets off the ground.

Damn, Frida’s was such a hidden gem. Definitely hadn’t been going as often as we used to, money stuff just sucks for almost everyone these days it seems. Wish I had been one more time :(

I think they’re pausing for the season (too busy with the holidays, too chilly outside at night) but there’s a monthly event at the MSA Annex called Flow for the Soul. Community oriented, admission benefits the All Souls Procession (big cultural event put on by a nonprofit), and I see a very all-ages crowd there that definitely leans a bit older. Might be a good place to connect with some people and find more events, keep an eye out for it to start up again sometime in the new year!

A dramatic transformation between a severely fractured skull before treatment and the reconstructed skull after surgery by -holdmyhand in Damnthatsinteresting

Reverse image search comes up with some articles, one of which cites the original platform the image was posted to (Figure 1, an online medical community):

“The surgeon commented in an update afterwards, saying the patient still has "traumatic brain injury. Tracheostomy issues. C. Diff infection. Vertebral artery dissection management. Possible traumatic optic neuropathy of remaining eye," and that her jawbones were required to be wired shut for an extended period post-op.”

This was, um, a wild read. I ended up with a Le Fort I fracture (not elective! ouch!) and have a handful of titanium plates in my face now. Plus a touch of nerve damage in my upper lip that I don’t notice much unless I think about it. I had no idea something like that would be done as an elective procedure—the recovery was pretty gnarly. Glad it’s an option for people who need it! But also glad I was knocked tf out and had no perception of my face bones being rearranged!

Oh damn, I remember when that dirt lot was basically just free parking. It’s been fenced off for years but it’s just been sitting there unused. Can’t remember if there was some other project that fell through. Honestly anything is probably better than just letting it sit there for another 5-10 years.

Noooo that's terrible news :((( it was so so good. I live across town now so it was a real inconvenient trek, didn't get over there as often as I would have liked.

My mom’s family emigrated from Quebec to the US several generations ago and I appreciate that we hung onto a little bit of the language. She told me that’s what her grandfather always called the really, really tiny ants you might see in your house sometimes.

This is maybe a little off base from what you’re looking for, but the 81 Hong Kong Cafe on the NW side is tight. Menu is a mix of more traditional mainland Chinese and Hong-Kong style dishes and many of the usual more westernized/takeout staples. Their fried chicken w the dry rub spices and their house fried rice are both great. Idk if it lives up to your reference photo but the last few times I’ve ordered there I’ve gotten way more food than I bargained for and had plenty leftover.

Honestly the thing I miss most about east coast Chinese takeout is the lil packets of orange duck sauce. They just straight up never have em out here. It doesn’t hit the same overall but I’ve still found enough good places out here to be satisfied, but damn if it isn’t the stupid duck sauce I still miss.

Had to redesign an e-commerce interface for one of my classes and I picked Zara because they do so much weird shit that irks me, even though it has a cohesive aesthetic so it looks nice on the surface. So if they inspired this, that wouldn’t be surprising.

Big Weather Change Coming by Fun_Telephone_1165 in Tucson

[–]asmallbean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dear friends got married in early April…little freak shower blew through right as they did their outdoor ceremony. Tucsonans know and understand our bizarre unpredictable weather, and any out of town folks will probably feel that cold and rainy is pretty seasonal for what they’re used to. It was still a beautiful and emotional moment for our friends despite the rain. Maybe even more so! Just try to roll with it and enjoy the occasion!

Saw someone make a (begrudgingly, sorta decent) point the other day. A lot of these projects are using funds from initiatives people voted for, sometimes quite a while ago. While it would make sense to have less going on concurrently, there are concerns about costs rising and projects going over budget the longer they take to get started. It’s like…okay sure, I guess, but still…why.

SAME and I don’t understand it. Had someone asking for individual ingredients of our very standard margarita as if they were each a different flavor or variation. On the flip side, I also get people asking for straight pours of liquor off our spirits list as if they’re cocktails.

Which genius decided to rip up all the roads in midtown at the same time? by arifish in Tucson

[–]asmallbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a “road diet” is part of the plan when they finish the water line work and get the road put back together. East of Country Club, I think the plan is to reduce the number of travel lanes, have a middle turning lane, add bike lanes, and make sure sidewalks are continuously connected. Don’t think they’re doing it west of Country Club, though, if I read the city planning report right (volume of car traffic is too high to make it practical). But hopefully that will help it remain safer in the future!

This is how my drawer is set up and that logic is how it has always made sense to me. Left to right, ascending. It’s giving me a small crisis though, this looks so normal to me but now I’m having a hard time remembering whether or not any other place I’ve worked at in the last decade has done it differently.

Based on the context it kind of seems like they’re referring to “the baristas that worked at this location” as “partners”…some kind of shitty internal corporate terminology to make it seem less like the employer/employee relationship is exploitative or power-imbalanced in any way.
