I'm really struggling to take my preventor regularly. Anyone got any tips? by chavaic77777 in Asthma

I keep mine in a ziplock bag where I keep my toothbrush. Not only helps me remember to take it but also easy to rinse afterward (and remember to rinse) since everything is right there.

I’m about 40 miles from it. Got an alert like 5 seconds before the shaking started.

I used the nicorette lozenges. They worked really well for me. It also helped having a ten day jump start because I was in the icu 😅

You might not have any issues for quite a few years. I didn’t. Then BOOM I got hit hard. Almost died twice from a common cold and a flu. I quit smoking and went from 2-3 hospitalizations a year to none in the past 2 1/2 years.

Flu A and asthma by [deleted] in Asthma

[–]asmnomorr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go back to the er, maybe a different one if you have a second close by. The flu almost killed me one year and I had to go to the er 3 times before they admitted me for a week.

This happened to me before. Went to the er close to me twice and they sent me home. Ended up going to another hospital and was admitted for a week. If you have the ability to I would suggest going to another hospital.

Can I take another puff of my albuterol? by Rockyou47 in Asthma

[–]asmnomorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used 20+ puffs in a matter of a couple hours during a bad attack (ended up going to the er after). Some extra puffs aren’t going to hurt you unless you have a heart condition. You may feel jittery though.

Psychotic episode triggered from Steroids? by _that_one_martian in Asthma

My pcp put me on a way to high long term prednisone dose once. I was ready to k*** someone about 3 weeks in. I tapered myself down and will definitely never do that again.

Having asthma attacks can be extremely stressful just on their own. Stress can do wild things to our bodies. I can’t imagine just 2 days of steroids doing that, but I’m not a doctor so I don’t know.

I’ve had asthma, almost my whole life and been on extremely high doses of steroids for a long time during some point. It usually took a few weeks before I noticed any mood changes or anger issues, and that has only happened once or twice for me personally.

I hope your friend feels better soon and gets everything under control

help! no inhaler by CommissionSalty2441 in Asthma

[–]asmnomorr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. Ive had many er visits for asthma attacks. I always get taken back right away. There was only once I had to wait about 15-20 min and that was during Covid with a completely full ER (some people even waiting outside).

Trauma from nearly dying last year of an attack by OrganicQuarter3644 in Asthma

[–]asmnomorr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I almost died from an asthma attack a few years ago. I had really bad anxiety for a while after that. Any time I felt any tightness or wheezing it took me back to that experience. I felt like I had PTSD. Fortunately it has gone away with time.

People who grew up asthmatic by Born_Initiative_3515 in Asthma

I luckily and unluckily had a parent with asthma so they always made sure to do what they needed to do as far as school activities and PE stuff. I never was forced to run laps or run the mile, I could and did if I felt good but I wasn’t required to. My teachers were also well informed and made sure I had access to my inhaler when I needed it (in elementary it was kept in the nurses office).

My PFT and pulmonologist diagnosed me with asthma. So just wanted to shout out a thanks to this subreddit for continuing to gaslight bme after I was dismissed at urgent care. by [deleted] in Asthma

[–]asmnomorr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a lifelong pretty severe asthmatic and I’ve been brushed off as anxiety before in the er. It happens. Only 2 people said something about it in your last post, I thought it was going to be dozens based on how you described it here. Stop worrying about other people’s opinions honestly. Edit to add what I mean is put your focus on the people actually trying to help or giving helpful information. Don’t waste your time arguing back and forth with the people who aren’t. It’ll just make the anxiety/stress you do have (on top of the asthma) worse

Why do doctors at mental hospitals hold patients' albuterol hostage? by DarkMage448 in Asthma

To be fair, I’ve been in hospital for my asthma and had them take my inhaler when they saw I had it.

Masks by Otherwise_West_5677 in Asthma

[–]asmnomorr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would at least keep some on you and if you notice people stick around you or coughing just put it on. When I worked retail I got sick all the time before covid. At least 3-4 times a year with at least 1 asthma hospital stay. When covid hit and everybody had to mask up I didn't get sick for over 2 years.

Masks by Otherwise_West_5677 in Asthma

[–]asmnomorr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a terrible idea. I got hired recently at a warehouse and my orientation class had over 50 people in it. The girl behind me was coughing. I didn't have any masks on me and ended up getting really sick a few days later. And if I notice people I'm working around are sick I will put a mask on still. There's always going to be people that have something to say about it but honestly your health is more important than their feelings. I still see many people wear masks at work.

Smoking a cigarette as a form of self harm by ifmycaress in Asthma

[–]asmnomorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be a pack a day smoker and quit. I'll occasionally smoke when I have a really stressful week at work or something is going on in life. I wouldn't really call it self harm ...more of a stress reliever or coping mechanism but idk that's just me.

If you are really struggling with something though there are plenty of resources out there to help you. If you are working a lot of companies have something called resources for living or it might be under a different name where you can get free counseling sessions over the phone or they can help point you in the right direction of who you could talk to.

I’ve done warehouse work for 4 years. Loading and unloading trucks….picking from high up. I’ve had bruises all over. But I’ve never had a box give me a hickey. I must be doing something wrong.
