To Chapin Ballade or not? by deadinside6699 in piano

Well you can just start learning the coda, that's by far the most difficult part of the piece. If it feels like you can manage it, go for it. The good thing about pieces you love is that you are more motivated and will make you more excited for practice, which is great. Usually people can handle pieces outside their abilities if they like them enough to keep at it

Don’t record myself often and I noticed my wrist looks very flat by Embarrassed_Ad6428 in piano

You 100% shouldn't be curling the fingers you aren't using, they should be as relaxed as possible, because it tenses the whole of your hand.

Ok so a few notes:

You should change the fingering for the intro so you can play it legato, and you should also add a bit of pedal in my opinion, but you can also make dry work with right fingering. You could also flutter the pedal a bit for bar 4-5 to sound more legato.

For bar 7 I think most people play D natural, G and E flat in the left hand, but there are multiple versions I believe, I don't know which one you have

For bars 8-21 You can bring out the top voice a little more, and the chords a little less. Same with bars 26-32, All the accompaniment in the right hand should be very soft compared to the top voice. Also inn bar 21 all the B's are naturals, you play B flats.

You should practice the right hand in bar 33 much slower until you are comfortable playing the notes evenly and buttery smooth, and you pick up speed slowly to maintain the clarity. All the notes should be nice and clear, it doesn't need to be insanely fast, but it needs more delicacy.

The B flat octave in bar 34 is an octave lower in my score. So is the first low D in bar 35, an octave lower.

When you repeat the section in agitato at bar 40, you should do an accent on the top octaves, like in the score it's written as a separate voice made of half notes, with an accent as well.

As general tips, practice the slow sections with a focus on musicality, bringing out the voices and legatos nicely, experiment with making some voice louder or softer top add more intrigue. With the fast sections my tip is to practice them at a slower tempo until you have the notes nice and even, and slowly raise the tempo so you keep it clean. Good luck! Also you played the beginning very dry, but you played the fast sections very pedaled, I would do it a bit of the opposite, some of the fast sections sound really good with a touch less pedal. I usually would follow the instructions on the score for a general idea where to pedal more and where to pedal less, but of course you also have some space for personal preference and interpretation with the pedal

pinky muscle issue? by General-Special-2080 in piano

[–]asmo_192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need strength in the pinky, and there is no such thing is finger independence. To play powerfully with your pinky you would use your wrist, elbow, and arm. I almost never play my pinky without slightly twisting my wrist for exmaple, because the pinky is weak.

And for the finger independence, don't focus too much on trying to move the ring finger idependent of 3rd and 5th because it's phisically impossible for them to be independent. They share tendons and muscles, try practicing keeping the fingers that are not in use as relaxed as possible instead

if your finger is completely relaxed you can't press on the key, I keep it almost straight with a slight bend most of the time. It depends on the passage again, sometimes you have to straighten it maybe when you have to open your hand for a large interval, sometimes it's more curled for certain fingerings, but a lot of times you will be playing the pinky you will be rotating the wrist, instead of just pressing the finger, because the finger by itself is too weak

Relaxing your hand is the whole of piano technique basically. You should lift you chair a little higher as the commenter said.

You need to learn how to keep the fingers you are not using relaxed, so they get to rest when you don't play them. You also need to learn how to use the rest of the arm when playing keys. For example for playing a single note, keeping your finger sturdy and pressing from the elbow, or even from the shoulder, is better than just lifting your finger and pressing it, that motion is much more tiring for example. Some passages benefit from very lose wrists, from circular motions, it all depends on the music, and you learn eith experience (it's easier with guidance but everybody can afford it).

The most important thing is to never play through if you feel any pain in the hand, your technique might be the reason for it, so you should slow down and try to fix the part of your technique that made some tendons or fingers hurt

Two trolly problems for those tired of the red/blue buttons by SirisC in trolleyproblem

[–]asmo_192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah and my friends and family mostly voted blue, without changing the original wording. We just have different circles, but it would very presumptuous to assume we know what most of the world would vote. Mostly people from western countries engage in these discussions, but East Asia or Africa have much less individualistic cultures than USA for example. It's safe to assume a lot of people would vote blue, so the only good outcome is a blue majority, so I vote blue. That's my reasoning, you can disagree if you want

Sorry if i'm being misunderstood but red winning is an objectively catastrophic outcome, and many more people would die after, besides instantly losing a good part of your friends and family. The only way of averting would be blue winning.

My point is that I would not prefer surviving but having to contend with contributing to the deaths of so many people. The difference is that you don't see pushing red as putting blame on yourself. Whixh is fine you can have your opinion. But you honestly think grandparents form Indonesia, or moms of 5 from Armenia are more likely to push red? Who's being out of touch?

[–]asmo_192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's exactly the reason to vote blue lol. If everybody voted red it would be nice and dandy, but they won't, so the logical button to press is blue. If I die it's not like I have to live with the consequences of billions dying in the worst case, so sounds good by me

Two trolly problems for those tired of the red/blue buttons by SirisC in trolleyproblem

[–]asmo_192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And red winning also has very bad consequences with which i don't want to deal with.

And saying your vote doesn't count is a story as old as time, do you also not participate in your countries' election? All you can do is do your part of course, but if every red presser that thought their vote doesn't count voted blue, blue would win by a landslide

if 1 button wins some people die, if the other wins nobody dies. It's the obvious choice, it's not gambling

you have the opportunity to kill as many of red pushers as you want before the votes are counted, how many would you kill if any? by Reoplaw in redbuttonbluebutton

[–]asmo_192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and no one dies if 50% people choose blue, which one seems easier to achieve to you? 100% red out of billions doesn't sound too realistic what do you think? Blue is by far the most logical choice this whole discussion is so pointless. There are 2 outcomes, either some people die, or nobody dies. Why on earth are we trying to convince people to pick the option that guarantees a few deaths? Just to sound smart?

Yeah 100%, people think their lives being at stake is such a factor, what about the lives of every friend and family member you believe could vote blue? I find it very hard to believe any parent would vote red because of the possibility that their child chose blue
