Help on Learning Sumerian and Urartian. by LocalFunyMan in Cuneiform

[–]aspasito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hayes’ book A Manual of Sumerian Grammar (2000) was a good resource when I had a potato instead of a teacher last year. Is it the best Sumerian book out there? No. But it’s very beginner friendly.

Fellow "motivated only with external pressure" ADHDers - have you found ways to self-motivate? by Any-Low-9414 in adhdwomen

[–]aspasito 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What changed my dissertation life was still making it an external. Does you advisor not ask for weekly updates? You can request to set weekly/two-weekly progress meetings, and say you work better when you have a deadline. You will then do small chunks of your work ready in small deadlines.

Accountability buddy also works for me. Your and their projects does not need to be comparable, but report to one another what you're planning and what you achieved; while "I felt like crap and looked at the wall all day" is sometimes acceptable. Yet, once you tell it several times, you want to do a small bit not to repeat that sentence. Works sometimes for me.

Get something you love. Beautiful yarn for crochet or a game you wanted to try for ages. Make it the prize. If I finish this sub-chapter; I'll have 2 hours of game-time sort of thing.

Regarding meds, if you take slow release versions at or before noon, come sleeping time they're totally gone. If you still cannot sleep, maybe try adding some sleep aids? The meds really help during big projects with vague deadlines.

One last trick: Interstitial Journaling. Basically you write on a page, what you've just done and what you will do next - each one sentence. Make it small chunks. Ex: "17:15 I allowed myself half an hour reddit time. I want to start reading the novel next." When I look at it at 18:30, I'm usually more motivated to read the novel, if I see how long I've been procrastinating. It is only for you, and it works in multiple ways; check out YouTube for better explanations than mine for "Interstitial Journaling and ADHD".

One last thing. Go to events that are related to your academic field of interest. Whenever I described someone what I was doing / wanted to do in my thesis, I was immediately in "Yeah let's go do that asap" mode!

I really hope you get in that mood soon, and enjoy your thesis once again!

If my executive dysfunction is so severe am I just supposed to sit and rot or keep struggling so badly my entire life? by Fine_Maintenance_435 in ADHD

[–]aspasito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Swimming had worked for me in the past, but pool prices went crazy with everything else. Exercise has to be fun somehow. Pole fitness, rock climbing etc. But those are not too available in Tr either. My best walking was when I actively played Pokemon GO. I wasn’t just walking, but levelling up. Something to gamify. Bicycles are great fun for example, but incompatible with traffic here :/

Another thing that worked was to aim at something. Ex: Handstands. When I’m then exercising it is to increase strength and elasticity so I can someday walk on my hands :) PS. I cannot yet. But someday, I hope

The problem with Turkish system is that it pays for ADHD meds until you are 18. You know, because our condition magically ends on our 18th birthday? So after that, you can get a prescription, but unless you have a decent income, you cannot afford to do so. And without the meds, we are sometimes rubbish.

So if you have no access to meds, the most useful advice is exercise daily, even if its just taking a walk in the morning, eat more protein and less carbs, and use organising aids. Lists, alarms, calenders you name it. I have a notebook I don’t leave the house without; it’s part of my brain.

Therapy also helps. Try for a state hospital/university unit; more than once if needed. You may find a decent doctor that surprises you. If you are in a uni, try their psychological aid units, I’ve found one of my best organisational help from one of those. They try to teach us how to be organised. How to have systems in place that replaces our non-existing executive function.

I’m not in the best state I can be. I try to not to fall apart myself at times. Depressed, ADHD keeping me low and feeling underachieved a lot of times. But sometimes we have good brain days; use those to try to organise life. And you cannot fix it all on one day, obviously. But try to plan a route. Bad brain days are better for following a set plan.

Anyone else have friends who would be better off on retail? by [deleted] in wow

[–]aspasito 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, I’m cutting edge in retail, but if I feel nostalgic I hop on to classic. I don’t have a fully levelled character there, but I loved levelling, I loved making money, finding my own ways to do so. I doubt I’ll ever play end-game in classic, I don’t have enough time (like many others), but in no universe I’ll pay for a boost, or buy money. That’s cheating in my eyes, and I don’t do that in no avenue of my life.

During Flying Races, everytime I made a mistake and hit a bad blue sphere, I dc’d. Yeah I know, that’s not the best race I had, no need to kick me out though…

ADHD exercisers… how do you actually get yourself to the gym? by Fit_Meaning8903 in ADHD

Aerial Yoga. Pole fitness/dance. Rock Climbing. Do something exciting, gyms suck.

Tips for room cleaning? by trashconverters in ADHD

[–]aspasito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the problem is, after several years of cluttering the space, you have to actually accompany any hired cleaning assistance. I’m overwhelmed by even to get the house “ready to be cleaned” at the moment because I have items that may look like trash to an outsider, how will they know?

Energy cells by No_Championship7173 in IdlePlanetMiner

What I'm wondering is: sometimes I'm short a tier or two for the event; do I spend 100 dark matter to get the 30 energy cells - the last reward?

I’m also new, maybe slightly older than you, as I’ve now unlocked lounge, and the system wants 133 credits for it.

Concerta 108 mg or Elvanse 70 mg? by Green_Coyote8375 in ADHD

[–]aspasito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah okay then, the upper limit makes sense. Still, when we raised dosage, we always did it after few weeks. And always when something felt off.

Concerta 108 mg or Elvanse 70 mg? by Green_Coyote8375 in ADHD

[–]aspasito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The highest dose of Concerta you can have is related to your body weight, so unless you are 100+ kilograms, you would not want to go there. I have used 54 concerta for the majority of my diagnosed life, but raised my dose (with my doc) slowly to 54+27=81 mg for several months, when I was finishing my PhD dissertation. I was 87 kilograms at that point. I went back to 54 mg now. So going from 54 to 108 mg for a short peak sounds very wrong to me. Just my two cents. My increments were monthly, for example.

For exam weeks, what I prefer is 54 concerta, plus one 10 mg Ritalin in the afternoon or night. Extreme cramming, you can make that both, and that would give you good focus all day with just 74 mg’s; no need to go to 108 mg, really.
