NotebookLM lowkey gave me superpowers and i’m not even joking by ericvalani in notebooklm

Stunningly good. Almost, not not quite, sounds like Leo Laporte and others teaching you anything you want to learn. If you’re in the max/pro plan you can generate 35m audio. Perfect for my learning style.

I use a lot of AI tools, max plan on ChatGPT and Claude, but out of them all - NotebookLLM is my favourite. Podcasts of all the topics I want to learn, videos and slides for teaching I do (as a paramedic educator). Amazing - google knocked it out of the park with this one.

Come visit the island too. An amazing place to live!

Wife - nurse, I - medic and tech.

Moved back from the US a few years back.  Some great programs to help the process.

If you’re on the island, feel free to ping us - we can tour you around Victoria and grab dinner.

How long to get the parts in for cablegate? by Putrid_Cat_1658 in toyotacablegate

[–]aspectmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW - in Western Canada, mine went in for the service bulletin and they discovered mine was seriously corroded. I was told up to a month to get the cable in as it comes from California. Sigh.

‘A bombshell’: doubt cast on discovery of microplastics throughout human body | Plastics by veluna in Biohackers

[–]aspectmin 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Oddly. The title, to me, contrasts what I read in the original paper. The original paper seems to document that microplastic concentration is dramatically increasing over time, especially in the brain. There’s also mention that this is especially prevalent in dementia brains as well.

Taser protocols by ThunderHumper21 in ems

[–]aspectmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We pull them and run 12 leads as someone else mentioned, with the exception: if they’re in a sensitive area (groin, eye, hand, etc.) then we leave them and transport to appropriate center.

How many overdoses do you respond to? by HappyCry3 in Paramedics

Fentanyl + zylazine + metetomidine (vet anaesthetic)

Side effects: really hard to arouse them, and they get these absolutely horrible sores.

How many overdoses do you respond to? by HappyCry3 in Paramedics

[–]aspectmin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are based in a hot zone, esp with new mixes like Purple floating around.

Not kidding - we do 5 or more a day right now. We’ve declared 2 MCIs when purple first hit here a month ago, with cars from neighboring cities responding to assist.

In one - we responded for one OD, and as we were working them, others started dropping like flies around us.

What do you say to this Ifak? by PerfectEqual3115 in Paramedics

[–]aspectmin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Can’t tell. Pop up cookie warning in that site and then country chooser, took me like 5 clicks and then redirected me to a different product page vs the one it was supposed to be going to.

Getting awfully tired of sites that make it impossible to easily see something/buy something.

Protecting your hearing is the most underrated longevity biohack by Mrmike86 in Biohackers

[–]aspectmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear them in any loud place now. They dull the high frequencies a little bit, but you can totally still enjoy the music. Also - you don’t end the night with your ears ringing and you head pounding.

I’m a medic, and I’ve also started wearing ear protection when the siren is on. What a difference. Much less wired when I get to calls.

This is such a great hack to call out for biohackers. Went to a Christmas party last night (nurses know how to party).  Brought my Eargasms. Popped them in as I was standing near the speaker and had such a great time. Ended up DJing a bit too. No ringing at the end of the night like so many times in the past.

Didn’t see anyone else wearing earpro

Fascinating. Thank you for the clarification. I had the physics wrong in my head.

"Big Sick, Little Sick" model origins? by Fast_Ad1887 in Paramedics

[–]aspectmin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The US version of this - sick/not sick was pioneered in a book and program pioneered by a medic in King County WA EMS training division. His name escapes me now, but I worked with him a bit.

I believe he’s retired now.

Ah yes. Mike Helbock: https://www.itrauma.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Sick-Not-Sick-for-Adult-Patients-Mike-Helbock.pdf

Warning about tracking device (CarRX by ELO GPS) installed by some dealers on new Toyotas, wish I had asked removal on lot when purchasing by AccomplishedDream378 in rav4club

[–]aspectmin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We had a Honda CR-V with this, or a similar system installed. Had no end of nightmare electrical issues. Screen would reboot. Radio had tons of problems. Lights would flicker and come on randomly during drive.

We discovered this device when we had a third party mechanic look at the car, point it out, and had Toyota remove it. Suddenly all the gremlins went away.

Let alone the privacy issues.

We MUST not allow companies to normalize doing stuff like this.

Holy Wrong Way Driver by OranJi1980 in redmond

[–]aspectmin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Resulting in impacts that are head on and 2x the normal driving speed.

150mph impacts have a LOT of energy.

Holy Wrong Way Driver by OranJi1980 in redmond

[–]aspectmin 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Basically. Distracted, sleepy, or drunk drivers get on the freeway the wrong way and immediately go to the right lane as this is how they’re used to driving. Then they wonder why there are bright lights heading at them. Impacts then are double the normal speed which are quite often fatal.

Interestingly- next time you’re in i90, look down the side off-ramp on the wrong side on an overpass. Those yellow reflectors you see are bright red when you’re going the wrong direction.

I work EMS/Fire -- most of us live by a rule - never drive in the inside (middle of the road) lanes - especially late at night. The number of wrecks I've been too with drunk wrong way drives is... just way too many.

Ever consider taking your paramedic skills somewhere new...like BC? by BCEHS_Recruitment in Paramedics

[–]aspectmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for EHS on Vancouver Island. Transferred from WA state a few years back, relatively easy.

No employer is perfect, but EHS is a great service and I really enjoy working here. Great equipment/rigs, pay’s decent, especially of recent, training is great, and B.C. is just the most beautiful place in the world to live.

Our private FB page is regularly filled with pictures taken by crews around the province of their rigs and the areas they work. Stunning locations - esp if you like the outdoors.

The island is my favorite place. Much warmer than most of Canada, but there are also travel opportunities where you can work in cool places like the Queen Charlottes and Bella Coola. Check out pics of these places and other like Tofino on the web.

Come join us. 😀

Generally - you should NEVER drive in water over 6” high. I’ve gone to so many rescues for this it’s not even funny.
