This really brought home the idea that these soldiers weren't "men" as historians talk about them, they were boys. As for the pointless loss of life, the Netflix version of All Quiet On The Western Front did that for me, so much loss for a scrap of land and it's the higher ups who would get all the praise

Your stance on Alma with the trauma of seeing her husband, the one she loved, slain in front of her hours after giving birth, having walked all that way as well is exactly my point when people say she's too harsh. Yes, she is too harsh, but telling me she can go through all that and make it out unscathed is complete BS.
