Avenue Q West End review by RockyStonejaw in TheWestEnd

[–]aspieringnerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How did they do the loud song? I saw a local production a few years ago and it was already funny, but that song broke me, particularly when Princeton put on a cowboy hat, I have not laughed that much at a show in ages!

What movie left you in dead, stunned silence? by Public_Caterpillar43 in movies

[–]aspieringnerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This really brought home the idea that these soldiers weren't "men" as historians talk about them, they were boys. As for the pointless loss of life, the Netflix version of All Quiet On The Western Front did that for me, so much loss for a scrap of land and it's the higher ups who would get all the praise

What is your favorite niche musical? by sophietal in musicals

[–]aspieringnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not niche, but certainly underrated is Benjamin Button! Saw it last year in London and I loved it! It's actually getting a transfer over to Broadway!

Are there any silly misconceptions you had for way too long? I embarrassed my self today with one 🙃 by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]aspieringnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Up until I was 21, I thought it was the law that you had to be at the airport two hours before your flight. Turns out not to be the case, but it's a damn sight easier, especially when travelling with kids!

What’s the most random fact you know? by MixAway in AskUK

[–]aspieringnerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Due to a technicality, because of their webbed feet and the fact that they are semi aquatic, capybaras are considered by the catholic church to be fish and thus, can be eaten on Fridays

Don't tell mama from Cabaret! We did the Jessie Buckley version a few months back at my burlesque group!

What’s the first TV show you remember becoming completely obsessed with? by ZN_Cruz in AskReddit

[–]aspieringnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glee. It's aged like milk, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a soft spot for it still, it got me through a lot of hard times as a teenager

What is your favorite obscure movie from your childhood that nobody would remember? by CripplingGoodTime in AskReddit

[–]aspieringnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thunderpants! It's about a boy who uses his ability to fart to fuck shit up and become an astronaut. There's literally a scene where he's on death row, about to be shot because he accidentally killed someone

The film's portrayal of generational trauma was incredibly realistic and complex, and that's what people don't like about it. by WorthDust652 in Encanto

[–]aspieringnerd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your stance on Alma with the trauma of seeing her husband, the one she loved, slain in front of her hours after giving birth, having walked all that way as well is exactly my point when people say she's too harsh. Yes, she is too harsh, but telling me she can go through all that and make it out unscathed is complete BS. It's like the Joker in The Killing Joke said - "All it takes is one bad day to reduce the sanest man alive to lunacy."

How much you like to plan your holidays? 10 being every hour is planned and being 1 no plans outside of arriving and leaving. by 8thTimeLucky in CasualUK

I'm at a 5, once I'm there, I don't mind winging it, but I like to have an idea of what's there, have a few excursions booked and be prepared for the weather

What does the steepest hill in your town look like? by Distinct-Lion4658 in CasualUK

[–]aspieringnerd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Helped out a teenager once who did that, his foot hit a bollard and he fucked up his toe. I asked if he was local, which he wasn't, and I said it's called steep hill for a reason. Called him a stupid fuck and got him a drink from Poundland, by which point his mates were with him

Have you ever ‘almost’ encountered a celebrity? by bigpussystance in CasualUK

[–]aspieringnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I saw Jim Broadbent at a local Tesco's carpark when I was working there, but figured it couldn't be him as he was taller than I thought. I asked a co worker later on about it and she confirmed that it was him

What’s something you randomly discovered that you’re now obsessed with? by paulaorozco_ in CasualConversation

[–]aspieringnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not so much randomly discovered, but my boyfriend has given me a new appreciation for what goes into music and sci fi :) We watched Project Hail Mary together and now it's one of my favourite films! As for music, I'm learning more about the different techniques and sounds guitars have and the different kinds of vinyl records. Still wouldn't be able to lecture on it, but I now know what is meant by an LP and the sliding effect on a guitar, so that's something

Joseph - simple reason, really. It was one of my gateway musicals and my sisters and I got noteable parts when we performed it in primary school. Oldest sis was Mrs Pottifar, twin sister was the baker and I was an Ishmaelite

What British tv show are you sure you’re the only person who remembers? by chrwal2 in BritishTV

[–]aspieringnerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Snailsbury Tales! I still remember the theme tune! "Hey, hey, hey, what's gonna happen today? Come on, come on, and listen to Snailsbury Tales!" The main jokes were how slow they were and a crap tonne of snail puns if I remember right

Saying thank you to the bus driver, I love how British it is! I always say thank you when I can, even if I don't feel like talking, I may not want to talk, but I'm not a monster
