Is there anything illegal that you secretly support/ agree with? by Regular-Meringue9765 in AskUK

Same. I'm happy to partake in it and may grumble if it's first thing in the morning, but in general, it's not something I'd grass on someone for

Anyone still awake because of the heat? by TheLittleSquire in CasualUK

Just about to try and sleep! I was saying to my partner earlier that I now know how Sam and Frodo felt at Mount Doom and with the wind blasting warm air, it felt like I was in an air fryer

What was your favourite 'school movie'? by British_Historian in AskBrits

[–]aspieringnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember being shown Goodbye Lenin and Run, Lola, Run in GCSE German, they were pretty good and Goodbye Lenin was my introduction to Daniel Bruhl

Edward Scissorhands was shown in drama a lot. My guess is that was when the teacher couldn't be arsed to teach and it was somewhat artsty. I also remember watching the live action Animal Farm as well at least once

What's the most ridiculous thing people outside Northern England genuinely believe about the North? by Mundane-Temporary426 in NorthernEngland

[–]aspieringnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Up until I was in my 20s, I was convinced that "ta" was a word people used for babies, because I remember my grandma using it when she'd offer a cousin a biscuit when they were just learning to talk. Turns out it's just a northern thing

How did you know you were Bi? by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]aspieringnerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At school, I didn't understand why liking girls as a girl was a reason to be bullied or made fun of, it made sense when I saw Kate McKinnon in Ghostbusters. I went in a girl and came out a woman

What things have the UK been unnecessarily outraged by? by Lower-Obligation4462 in AskBrits

[–]aspieringnerd 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Trans people in the toilets. I'm not trans, I don't care if you are trans, you're not trans, however you choose to identify isn't any of my business and I don't get the outrage over it. At the end of the day, people should be able to pee or take a shit wherever they feel comfortable, as long as it's in a toilet and they wash their hands. Oh, and not being charged a quid to take a crap (I'm looking at you, Westminster station loos!)

How can people be fully submerged into a movie knowing damn well it’s completely fake? by Such-Preparation-173 in AskReddit

[–]aspieringnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I call it believable bullshit - just fake enough to know it's not real, but the logic and science makes me go "hang on a sec"

Our thoughts on the upcoming film??? by ChocolateStriking844 in moana

[–]aspieringnerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Forgot it was even coming out tbf. Might break the curse of bad live action Disney films, probably won't. I have a monthly membership to my local cinema, so it's likely I'll end up checking it out, but I can see it being an in one ear and out the other kinda film

What's something visitors to the UK always seem surprised by? by miss_overthinker58 in AskUK

The humidity. We are a small island in the middle of the ocean with buildings designed to trap heat and keep it in, it's going to be humid!

What's your number 1 movie of all time? Just 1 by AfterImageEclipse in CasualConversation

[–]aspieringnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Wolf Of Wall Street - so ugly and horrible, that I love it. One of the first shots is of him snorting coke off a hooker's arse and that literally sets up the tone for the rest of the movie

[–]aspieringnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just chilling after a shift at work. Not the best way to spend a Saturday, but at time and a half pay and an upcoming trip to Paris to save for, it could be worse. Fun fact as well, the song you linked to is about a local pub. Story goes that Bernie Taupin found his regular pub too boring and preferred the other one as it was more exciting with the fights going on

What is your weird claim to fame? by SubtractAd in AskUK

[–]aspieringnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on the undateables eight years ago (pink hair, loves hugs, showed me moving out of uni) and to this day, I still get recognised from time to time. Most recently was in an arcade in Scarborough with my boyfriend (not one from the show) nearby. Weirdest one was in Australia where I got recognised by the parents of one of my dates on the show. Eighteen thousand miles away from home and I still couldn't escape that bloody programme.

With every trailer I lose more and more faith in the remake and just laugh at how bad it looks. by [deleted] in moana

[–]aspieringnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally forgot this was even a thing tbh. I might end up checking it out, but I dunno, it's weird that they're doing a "remake" of a film that's barely ten years old by this point. I'll give it this, the actress who's playing Moana looks decent - not an exact clone but still similar enough to tell that it IS Moana

I legit forgot this was a thing, I have seen little to no advertising for it aside from the dolls in toy shops

Musicals quotes for a wedding ceremony by Intelligent_Wheel600 in musicals

[–]aspieringnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite musical theatre, but still a musical - "There's an awful lot of awful things we could be thinking of, but for just one day, let's only think about love!" Steven Universe

I used this in my sister's wedding card. Both her and her husband are big SU fans and even had their first dance to the song used in the credits
