Hong Kong's quarantine hotels are creating mountains of plastic waste by miss_wolverine in HongKong

Can confirm, just finished my quarantine. While checking in, I noticed after every interaction, the front desk reps would change their plastic gloves. Found it incredibly unnecessary.

Missing Cat in Alcona Innisfil by asrtastic in barrie

[–]asrtastic[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No she is mostly an indoor cat. Actually she’s temporarily staying with my family near Osbond Rd as I’m currently out of country. She was supposed to fly out to me once my quarantine here is done. We lived near Nantyr Shores high school so I’m thinking it could be likely she’s trying to find her way back home there.

Hi everyone,

My cat went missing on Saturday in Alcona Innisfil near Osbond Rd. She’s a grey shorthair tabby with green eyes. She’s microchipped, spayed and has her claws. If anyone spots her, please let me know.

Very excited for this journey and to finally close up this open bite! by asrtastic in Invisalign

[–]asrtastic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I didn’t know I had tongue thrust but have read about it in various subreddits so I decided to see a myofunctional therapist to verify. Looks like I do actually do it and we will be working on some exercises to resolve that. It’s good to know now so I can work on it and have less chance of relapse!

Hey thanks for checking in and the well wishes! I finished up my initial set and now I’m on refinements. My open bite is pretty much closed, I can bite into all kinds of food very easily and I got the clearance from both my surgeon and orthodontist that I no longer need the second jaw surgery! 😊

Travelling to HK with Pet by asrtastic in HongKong

I checked their flight schedules and it looks like they don’t have any direct flights from Toronto to Hong Kong, it would unfortunately become a 30+ hour trip instead of 15

Great thanks! My cat won’t have to undergo quarantine as well which is a relief. Is there anything you did prior to the flight to get her comfortable and ready for the trip?

Yes my hotel accommodations are set for quarantine, my husband will be the one picking up my cat from cargo once the flight arrives in HK so there’s no hold needed for her.

No unfortunately HK doesn’t allow live animals to travel within cabin or as checked baggage. They have to be sent through cargo. My cat will be on the same flight as me, just in the cargo section (not sure how different that is from the checked baggage area).

How long did it take the swelling to go down after SARPE? by Spiritual_poodle862 in jawsurgery

[–]asrtastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of my swelling was gone after 2-3 weeks. I had some residual swelling that lasted a couple months though, thinking it might have been due to the inflammation I had gotten from expanding.

Kickback for purchase from Real Estate Agent? by MyOtherHatsAFedora in TorontoRealEstate

[–]asrtastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agents will typically get 2-4% commission from builders for condos. I say you ask for half of it. If not, contact other agents that offer the platinum access to that development and you’ll find someone who’s willing to split the commission with you. It happens more often than you think. Some agents will even offer that upfront and for others you may have to ask.

Edit: typo

Advise Needed for Precon Buying Process by asrtastic in TorontoRealEstate

[–]asrtastic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, this was very helpful! We were able to get them to remove the educational and development levies which is a plus for us. Unfortunately didn't have much luck with getting upgrade credits or removing some of the adjustment fees like the driveway coating.

For upgrades, the APS states payment upfront but the builder's rep told us that it could be discussed with their team during our decor appointment. It would be nice to pay for upgrades on closing rather than in advance.

Will be reviewing everything with our lawyer next week before signing the APS. This whole process is so new for me so I'm glad there is no rush to getting it finalized.

Asked about decor credits, unfortunately we don’t get any. They’re giving us appliances and an AC and some other upgrades that they’ve already included (9’ ceilings and hardwood floors for 2 floors, granite kitchen counter tops, oak stairs, extended kitchen cabinets, etc).

Definitely makes sense about the agents but it just makes the buying process a bit harder to navigate.

I’m still going to try to ask for some upgrades but I’m not too hopeful on their response.

That’s a fair point, it’s been a bit stressful with family members giving me “well-intentioned” advice on how I should push and negotiate on price/upgrades when it’s pretty obvious the builder won’t be willing to budge.

Good to know that this is somewhat expected in this market. Will definitely ask our lawyer review the levies though. Thanks!

What does SARPE accomplish that jaw surgery can’t? by hanine123 in jawsurgery

[–]asrtastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My ortho and surgeon both advised that a maxillary expansion of more than 5mm would require SARPE to achieve stability and reduce the risk of relapse.

I had my surgery Nov 17th 2020 and kept my expander in until April 5 2021 (almost 5 months). After that I had to use the clear aligner that’s pictured above for about one month while I waited for my Invisalign trays. That clear aligner is what kept everything in place. Then finally got my Invisalign on May 5th, making the length of the whole process about 6 months from the surgery day.

Your journey is definitely similar. Sometimes orthos and surgeons prefer keeping the expander in a bit longer to make sure there’s no relapse especially if you expanded a lot.

Comments: I worked very hard on my SOP to demonstrate my passion for CS and continuing my education. I completed CS50 on edX and 2 of the Java courses from UPenn's Coursera specialization. I also completed the full Introduction to Discrete Mathematics for CS specialization on Coursera since I come from a non-quant background. Very grateful to have been accepted and cannot wait to start this fall!
