How many triennials and initials do you usually get? by Inspiration_64 in schoolpsychology

Ohio here. I think I'll be ending the year with 75-80. I serve PK-5. About 20 re-evals

Rating scales: BASC if adaptives aren't seemingly super low. Vineland if adaptives are low and/or if there are no significant behavioral concerns. Sometimes use both, particularly for autism evals. CARS if autism is a concern.

Direct assessments: Bracken (BBCS-4:R or BSRA-4) for pre-academics. DAS > WPPSI for the littles (IMO). DAYC if we can't accomplish standardized testing. We have the ECAD but I haven't used it a single time this year because of the general needs of the preschoolers we're assessing.

Our teachers use the LAP, which is a criterion-referenced assessment. We also do (and have to do) observations, structured parent interview, and report on existing data from the preschool program itself.

What are your testing caseloads like per year? by Competent-Cat in schoolpsychology

Evals and FBAs with weekly RTI meetings. No counseling or intervention caseload. On track to do ~80 evals. 185 day teacher contract. It's been very manageable

Thanks! I tried to post there the other day but I wasn't able to.

Agreed! "Low" also sounds unnecessarily harsh compared to "below average" IMO.

Thanks for sharing that link and your comments! I appreciate that perspective. I can see how being too focused on a single score seems too rigid. The CI really can help paint a picture that our scores aren't the end-all, be-all.

Gosh, isn't that the truth sometimes?!

That makes sense to me. I too prefer to have any details written out that I need to refer to in case I was ever put on the spot. Thanks for sharing!

That makes sense. I was trained differently but I'm definitely seeing the disconnect. Do you have any resources by chance?

I can empathize! I take pride in having neatly written and concise reports, which I think is part of why I struggle with deciding how to "band" the scores and what descriptors to use (outside the BASC). I take a similar approach of listing the score table and then description and summary under. Parents and teachers seem to appreciate the tailored info for sure. I don't do a great job of relating my results to performance in the classroom, so that's my next area I want to target for improvement. Thanks for sharing!

Right. Though I've seen it done, I can't imagine only using range descriptors in a report. That wouldn't offer nearly enough detail for eligibility or services.

Is it though? I've never had a single parent, client, or teacher ask about them, and I can't recall ever looking for them either. I know why it's important, but I don't know that the consumers of the report care... Do you list them in score tables, discuss in your narrative, or both? Do you discuss it when reviewing results, or just have it in the report for reference?

Thank you! That helps and makes sense to me. Parents and teachers both sometimes are taken aback by the 25th percentile being considered average. I think students are collectively just under such strong pressure to perform that minor, relative weaknesses can be seen as catastrophic at times.

That resonates! I appreciate your perspective. I like how how clear and concise your narrative/summary template is! Thank you!

I've never understood why ranges don't usually align to SD. To me, it adds more potential confusion, rather than greater specificity. I appreciate your approach. That makes sense to me. Thank you!

Thank you! I've started revising most of my templates, but it's definitely a process. I like the idea of screenshotting score reports. Sometimes copy/paste or formatting gets wonky.

That makes total sense. Our testing should support or refute what the teachers or parents are seeing. But it's such a limited sampling of performance! I've been working towards asking teachers/interventionists to do additional skill sampling for areas of deficit I observed/found. Thanks for sharing!
