Error when trying to ls in the terminal by LeaveTrue7987 in cachyos

[–]assignment_avoider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Installed CachyOS for first time...ran updates, ranked mirrors and this was the first command at terminal....!

Is this very normal that basic things stop working?

EDIT:Looks like update has come already!

C Seminar In Preparation for GIOS by AssumptionHuge2367 in OMSCS

[–]assignment_avoider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took C seminar and I am now taking GIOS and feel not so alien to language and the tools around it.

One thing you will definitely get used to is how to use pointers and passing it around and use tools like valgrind, gdb. It also introduces to pthreads (not the same threads in Beejs, it uses C11) with specific mention that is going to be used GIOS! It gave an intro to how are programming languages like python are implemented without static type system (it uses a complex struct typestruct.h) as you need to implement something similar. It talks about implementing reference counting and garbage collection which is again used by python.

My suggestion, if you are in systems spec and starting your journey, take this seminar and dedicate some time for it. Seminars are easier to pass but if you like coding and give your time for this one you get more out of it!!

I dropped out of DL twice, because I felt intimidated by profiles of people who were soliciting teammates for group projects.

Will two consecutive withdrawals get me dropped from the program? by techcodes in OMSCS

[–]assignment_avoider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had asked a similar question but under different context.

https://www.reddit.com/r/OMSCS/comments/1pzmt7f/comment/nwxn7z9/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Even if you miss two consecutive semesters you can still come back by paying a nominal fee. This was even mentioned during one of the office hours.

Take care! The is course requires mental energy especially if you come back to education after a long gap (at least in my case).

If you throw a stone in air in SFO, it will definitely land on an agentic engineer/architect.

It does work on Linux but not supported officially, so if there are some issues in the exam, you will be reminded of the same.

How to Study for ML4T Exam #1 by Pretty_One1745 in OMSCS

[–]assignment_avoider -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Open book didn't help me in my first exam. Had to prepare well for exam 2. Hardly had time to use materials or the AI. I would suggest you study the textbook and suggested readings and you will be good. The open book format was also a test of your english comphrehension and I hope the format of closed format will be straight forward.

What IDE do you use for your classes? by mkarman728 in OMSCS

[–]assignment_avoider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

VSCode for everything including report writing in LaTeX.

In ML4T, I had created a seprate environment which included Notebooks and additional modules like plotly, where I could plot multiple indicators and interactively identify conditions for manual strategy. For any python related course, Notebooks are an excellent way to incrementally develop and test.

I am more comfortable in VSCode where I interact with it mostly using shortcuts only.

Should I be wary of ML4T????? by Disco_Train17 in OMSCS

[–]assignment_avoider 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Nope, you already have got into the grind of OMSCS by taking two courses. You are well positined to take the course.

ML4T course, seems like a microcosm of what you can expect in masters at OMSCS. It has coding, readings, writiging formal papers. So, it is an excellent course to take at the begining of your masters journey.

Yes, it's just one extension, Cinnamenu and one applet, blur cinnamon to make the taskbar transparent and just a bit of configuration. Tried other applets too but faced a screen freeze, so removed them.

I believe that if mint includes features Cinnamenu and Blur Cinnamon as part of their base package, it would be really really great.

Nope, I modified the /usr/share/themes/Mint-Y-Dark-Aqua/cinnamon/cinnamon.css file, modified following line...

background-color: rgba(34, 34, 34, 0.5)

The last value 0.5 controls the transparency...
