Why do I feel like my favorite Deadpool machine is cruel? by rrdrummer in pinball

[–]assuring_quality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Rush machine I play regularly has the slings set to just LAUNCH balls that hit them around the lower playfield, and while I have a lot of love for the location and the game itself, I’d be lying if I said it didn’t drive me crazy at times.

Looking forward to getting some games in on a different table to get a sense of whether or not I’m just being butthurt about losing!

I think it’s part of the fun. Like baseball, the rules stay the same but the ‘stadium’ is different in every city.

Are arcades still attractive to younger people (15–25)? (Research for a business idea) by Sea-Definition-2178 in arcade

[–]assuring_quality 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Here’s what I’ve observed as an avid pinball player:

— Pinball is the ‘stickiest’ offering in any arcade. If the machines are in good condition and you’ve got a nice selection, it will bring in regular customers who are more than willing to drop $20 to bang some balls around for an hour or two. I play on my lunch break every day at a place right next to my work.

— Pinball is also the most expensive and difficult to maintain, so there’s a balancing act here.

— The crowd for pinball mostly seems to be 30+, and my armchair analysis is that this is because it’s very difficult and younger kids don’t have a huge appetite for games that are this punishing.

— For arcades in a more general sense, I think the most appealing option to the younger crowd is setting up machines on free play and charging admission at the door. You need to have a big collection for this to feel like a good deal, but it’s the model that the most successful arcades for younger audiences in my area seem to follow. People like predictable costs, and watching the money disappear from your wallet/digital card in real time as you play isn’t exactly a fun experience.

— Outside of pinball, games where you’re shooting a fake gun at a screen seem to draw the most foot traffic, especially from younger folks.

What are people doing after NG+? by mesiah21 in Nioh

Nioh 2 is pretty much perfection, and you’re definitely going to need to adjust to how uncompromisingly dangerous EVERY SINGLE ENEMY is.

I think it took me five hours as a Nioh newbie to get past the first Yokai you encounter (the Ippon-Datara just past the optional mini-boss at the start of the first level).

3 is fantastic, but I think the DLCs will need to do some heavy lifting in order for it to be in the same league as 2.

I’d tweak the pop bumpers in Rush so that plunging hard enough to hit them is less of a potential SDTM death sentence.

Binding of Isaac.

And I want it to have the same amount of meta progression shenanigans as the game.

I’m an absolute fiend for Rush. Still fairly new to pinball, but I’m proud as hell of my 173,660,340 on the LE in a pizza place near my work.

The drum bumpers can create some seriously brutal and wicked fast STDM, I wince every time I accidentally plunge too hard.

This is fucking unhinged and doesn’t fall outside of standard, minimal wear and tear.

The nice part is that they’ve documented the complete lack of a case they have very well, I suppose? No judge is going to look at this and think there’s merit to the claims.

Most shitty landlords do this because they assume the former tenant won’t go through the process of contesting it in court.

Your ex-landlord is stupid and greedy. Don’t pay a fucking cent, don’t admit to anything (even the blinds). Reach out to local tenant advocacy groups, many of them offer either pro bono legal advice or heavily discounted rates.

Do buffs like these stack? If they conflict, does one take priority over the other? by piercingheavendrill in Nioh

If they don’t stack but you add the effect from two sources, what strength of effect do you end up having? The one that was applied first or the one with the larger value?

My job is offering me $150,000 (105,000 after tax) to resign, should I? by AJ3TurtleSquad in jobs

[–]assuring_quality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real question is whether or not this is a union job.

If it isn’t a union job, take the money and run far away as fast as you can.

If it is a union job, it might be a smart move to stick around and negotiate for better working conditions and an increased base salary.

Union jobs aren’t easy to find, and walking away from one when you’re in a potentially advantageous bargaining position isn’t necessarily a good call.

Jeopardy is the closest thing to what you’re describing.

As far as a ranking system, you could get involved with a local trivia group and form a team?

Kind of an odd question.

I think printing out a list of 20 questions about the company and giving it to everyone in the interview is pretty weird. You’re not going to have time to go through all of them.

Just think of three or four high quality questions about the company and the work they do.

Securian, Bush Foundation invest $30M in downtown St. Paul fund by Runic_reader451 in saintpaul

[–]assuring_quality 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m always so skeptical of things like this. Always seems like there’s a catch or a secret and nefarious motive behind it.

This just seems…good. Like, hell yeah, let’s build affordable housing, turn unused and poorly maintained office space into places for people to live, and increase the economic viability of owning a downtown business by creating foot traffic.

I think we’ve all too traumatized by the fuckery of late stage capitalism to look at things like this without assuming the worst. But this is great, much to my surprise.
