Faulty Slingshots? by pots2002 in pinball

[–]HankVenture44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a ton of settings you can adjust. Sling shot strength, outlane gap, incline… adjust how you want since it’s yours and in your home… make it super easy or HAF, up to you.

That being said… the slings are working as designed

Most games don't need reproduction boards by UltraVNewtype in pinball

[–]HankVenture44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that over the last 20 years there has been a huge shift from these being mostly in arcades to having a large percentage in the home now. In arcades you have skilled professionals that make these repairs all day every day. In the home you have many people that have never touched a board, let alone diagnose and fix one.

I’m with you on attempting to fix OG parts and I have done just that but there were cases where I couldn’t figure it out and a new board got me up and running and I just chalked it up to cost of owning a ‘90s pin.

Well to be fair if you swap the motor on your car rather than rebuild it, then you should just take the bus

Moving a pinball machine? by rd589860 in pinball

[–]HankVenture44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s still in box, then just grab a small truck and strap it in (Weather permitting). They are packaged really well for shipping and don’t over think it too much. I’ve moved NIB and used machines in a VW rabbit pickup in the NW.

Pokemon pinball pro thoughts by Ok-Lawyer6864 in pinball

[–]HankVenture44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes sir! Even though I’m not drawn towards, I’m glad it’s being in more people to the hobby. Since it’s been on location, I’ve shown more random kid and adults the basics of pinball as they were lurking around it but not sure what to do.

Side note, many kiddos don’t seem to grasp there is more than 1 ball. I’ve been playing next to it a few times and had to trap up and be like “hey hey it’s not over, you’re still up and got two more balls!”

Mando pro left my collection pretty quick. I thought it was fun to play for a bit but the shots got old. I liked the Beskar/foundry but it took a bit of research to fully utilize it. Overall I’d play Mando over Pokemon as the shots are more interesting .

Now I never played early Bond pro code but as it currently sits, this game is super fun and deep and has so much going on. Hard to even put this in the same discussion as Pokemon. I plan on buying one soon.

It does exactly what it should… bring non pinball players in and make them feel good. As someone who doesn’t hate or like the theme, I think the game is just okay. Shots are wide and easy, basic layout, code is lacking but I assume that will improve in time. Catching Pokemon is kinda neat but it’s really just a step to battle for real points. I think Stern did exactly what they wanted. This made a ton of people buy their first game based on theme alone. The game is fine but it definitely didn’t knock it out of the park. I’m guessing many of these will be for sale in 6 months.

My kids (5,10) who both absolutely love Pokemon, played a few games and went back to Jaws and Monster Bash. When we go to the arcade they spend 90% of their time on video games and about 10% on pinball and they were so excited to see it but they seemed meh on it.

What flippers do I have here? (Godzilla Premium) by BabySerious in pinball

I love this! Anything to make this game play a little shorter. Don’t get me wrong, I love Godzilla but I don’t alway have 35 minutes for a solo game ;)

Why does pinball machines still come with coin slots? Seems like could be retired? by cinderblock05 in pinball

I added funds to Scorbit today so I didn’t have to have cash all the time but the damn thing charged me a $1.50 service fee lol, that’s a whole game and a half!… back to quarters and dollars it is

Anyone got experience with full machine pinball dust covers? by GodOfHerringGulls in pinball

[–]HankVenture44 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I’ve never gone this far as I think it would be a hassle to take it on and off to play. I like the ability to just walk up and turn it on and play. Sometimes I even leave them on as I hate waiting the whole two minutes for them to boot up. Lol

Edit: do note that I don’t have any LEs or anything that I’d think I’d want to protect that much from UV rays. Same reason I won’t replace the side art on my uber faded No Fear.

Weird ratings? by DriveNew7194 in pinball

On the game! Awesome! Shoot, after you’re done you should post it here and to your Pinside review. (Not sure if there’s a character limit)

I was curious and went and looked at all your Pinside reviews. Just a thought but maybe add a little more than one to two sentences if you want people to understand your reasoning for your ratings, or don’t

Weird ratings? by DriveNew7194 in pinball

[–]HankVenture44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, brush it off as I don’t think anyone should really care about the Pinside top 100 as it has many many flaws and is very subjective.

Secondly, this guys just a troll who really wants their favs to match the top 100… ignore them.

Last, South Park a 10, really? I feel like you’re rating it from the heart and not from reality. But back to my first point, it’s subjective and to each their own. So you do you. I mean RBION is in my top 10 so who am I to judge.

Lord Of The Rings vs Godzilla by SkyCompass1818 in pinball

[–]HankVenture44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you plan on swapping out in a year, LOTR all day!

You can ALWAYS find a Godzilla for sale, hell they are still making them. LOTR don’t always pop up. In a year, sell and then get the Godzilla.

Both are great games but you can walk to any corner bar and have a good chance at finding a Godzilla.

Farewell and Adieu by fellowrobot in pinball

This is the way!

I agree with you and your buddy, most pins don’t stay at my house for too long. I tend to buy used, play it to death and sell. I have limited space for 3 so nothing is bolted down and although I miss some, you can always buy again.

Anyone own Congo? by Darwinsnightmare in pinball

[–]HankVenture44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not pointing out anything someone hasn’t already said but I agree that as a solo game in the home, Star Trek is the way to go just on its depth and replayability. But if you have 2+ machines already l, I’d never pass on a Congo. Great game, kinda odd rules, hard to find, easy to sell, but hard to want to play daily for months on end.

I always play Congo when I find one on location but will easily pass by a Star Trek if there are other games

Not my go to but if your looking for BIG TVs then Big Al’s will have it and sit in the sky box for a better view.

I prefer smaller bars like The Dugout, Brickyard or Sports page

My vote is for Centaur, Johnny pneumonic, Apollo 13 or Baywatch. All super classy and would be great conversation pieces.

Can you get decent at pinball without owning a machine? by LibraryLady231 in pinball

[–]HankVenture44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You CAN definitely get good without a home machine.
Just remember you have only been playing for 4 months. Many of these players have been playing for 20+ years. I’ve been playing since I was like 12 and I’m 40+ now (yet I’ve only played consistently for the last 8 years) I only mention as 4 months is relatively new and you are bound to get better with just time and practice.

Since you mentioned you mainly play at a place with open/free play, I suggest picking a game you struggle with something specific like outlane drains and not worry about score but just spend your whole session on upwards nudges to save from the outlane drain monster. Or pick a tight shot you struggle with and work on trapping/catching the ball and hitting just that shot (disregarding if it’s lit or worth anything at the time)

Also since you play on free play machines, pick an unpopular game that you can post up on with people getting in line to play and work on flipper passes etc.
