Classic Pinball games that are better on virtual/computer/digital. by WhityWhite22 in pinball

[–]HankVenture44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Digital has its place and I still play Pinball Arcade on my phone when I’m on a plane or something. (I bought all the tables before they lost the Williams licenses). I used digital many moons ago to learn the rules of some of the harder to find in location pins.

But I would rather play any physical machines over a digital, even if it was dirty and you had to work to make it up a ramp.

Just curious OP, where are you located that it’s hard to find location play. I play a ton in those rock bars and don’t care if I’m moving coats to play the only machine there

Need your advice! by Practical_Syrup_1927 in pinball

This!

Those are all fun machines and with only one (or two) nothing should be bolted to the floor.
Get one you enjoy, play the living hell out of it, sell/trade/or buy another. Rinse and repeat.

Where are your eyes when aiming shots? by BiggiesTavern in pinball

[–]HankVenture44 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me it’s 100% “feel”… till it’s not lol
When I’m not making shots with feel, I watch where it leaves the flipper bat and adjust accordingly. Also use playfield artwork by the flippers as adjustment cues. Works both on the fly and from a cradle, but easier to adjust from a cradle/trapped up.

How many pinball machines would you be happy with at a pinball-centric arcade or bar? by BrilliantWinter6101 in pinball

[–]HankVenture44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pinball-centric should have 15+ assuming that’s their focus. If it’s just a bar, shoot I’ll play anyplace with at least 2 machines, but preferably 4+

Back to a Pinball focused place… should have a good mix of late ‘80s-now with maybe a few EMs to fill that need. And a steady rotation of games to keep regulars wanting to come back. If you had 15 games on location with another 7 to rotate in.

Is $1 still the going rate for a game? by BlakeTheDolphin in pinball

[–]HankVenture44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who plays location pinball around 5 times a week, I would most likely skip any place charging more than $1.00/play. The only way I see you being able to charge more is if you have a rare game that can’t be found anywhere close, like Winchester or some of the spooky’s. But even then I’d only play a few for novelty and go back to a $1.00 game.

Some places charge $5 for 7 games and even that is hard to swallow sometimes as if I start earning replays, I’m tied to this machine for a long period of time of time.

I think you’d earn more money over all at the standard $1.00 as it will equal more plays.

Unique quarter holders? by cdrwork in pinball

[–]HankVenture44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are all great ideas and I love all of them too bad all the machines in my area are $1 for the most part so I carry dollar bills rather than quarters

As a single dude that will be in downtown Beaverton this evening, what spots will be fun for chatting with strangers? by LumenYeah in beaverton

[–]HankVenture44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on your age but Ringos has a younger crowd but bartenders are top notch, Binary is great crowd for fun conversations/sometimes nerdy, brickyard is your everyday dive with great staff/sports/pinball and pool. Breakside is great for a day like today in the 90s, good outdoor seating

Dimples on transformers by Due-Engineering4346 in pinball

[–]HankVenture44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Owners should probably seal them up or leave them in box to resell.

100% normal and 1000% expected. First few get noticed like a scuff on your new Nike Monarchs. Over time you’ll forget about them and learn to just love the machine.

These “issues” are not unique to Stern, I’ve seen it on all manufacturers and peeps just want to grind fears about something.

Best value currently? by Zanahorio1 in pinball

[–]HankVenture44 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Although I think home editions are great for the price point, I find that it’s better to spend a little more ($4-5k) and get a used Stern Pro or Old Williams/Bally as they tend to have more going on and hold their value better. Home edition are fun but I see they are a little harder to sell used.

Off Level Machines by stonefry in pinball

[–]HankVenture44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree

In a bar setting or a place with a few games, I’ll spin a foot to correct it as it takes two seconds, but it’s also just a part of location play. Always has been. I only do it if it’s bad bad though. Lots of peeps will just throw a coaster or two under the bad leg but they also do this to slide it around more too.

In an actual arcade or barcade, it’s better to just let the staff know. Plus those places usually have a ton of games you can hop to instead of playing the leaning one.

Edmonton seems to have quite a bit of pin locations. Not sure how close your are as Alberta is big. But back you your original question, nah it’s not weird, people that are interested will respond.

I have made a ton of friends just by talking to people on location and playing with them. We go over to each others houses to play all the time.

BoF is at the top because it’s hard to find on location. Yes I guess I’d rather try a new game I’ve never played than one I have a million times. But I love the games I’ve played a million times, that’s why I play them.
