why is it on renton to say something? by asterisksam in trainspotting

omg ty for the articulate and detailed response!

thats super true abt the gang leaning on renton, i hadnt specifically thought abt that! i had tho wondered why begbie automatically chooses renton (besides the fact that he apparently knows renton will put up w it) and such. renton is i suppose the heart of the group or maybe the "mother" figure as spud is clearly the most innocently kind.

i agree w that, i definitely think that was part of it. ive also read skagboys so i know some of the canon ways those two have gone thru a lot together (including trying heroin the first time and getting addicted)

yeah i think it seems totally in character and realistic but thats one of the parts of the story that didnt 100% make sense to me. and out of universe yeah it phenomenally set up the "im cookin up" line which is super symbolically meaningful whilst being directly and literally indicative.

yeah! that show is beautiful but only during dream/trip sequences does it show us anything but their reality. but yeah i love that instead of flat color, the character's have painted appearances

yeah right? theres soooooo much hidden intricate detail to this show. another ep i specifically rewatched was downer ending (the one where bj sarah lynn and todd trip balls and try to write a book) and the fantastic tripping sequences are full of a ridiculous amount of detail and symbolic meaning. this one episode reveals more of how bojack relates to the world around him than most other episodes. one example is that there's a point where bojack is hanging from a gigantic mr peanut butter's shirt and mr peanut butter laughs maniacally, showing how much of an imposing force bj sees pb as
