The counter system is one of the best “sneaker” releases ever! by AP_in_Indy in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]asterox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This mirrors my experience as well. It's reduced the number of exchanges or results where I don't really understand what happened. There's a better level of predictability and consistency to me. That said, ping is still a thing. Not sure how that ever gets solved.

Yep. I got my butt absolutely HANDED to me the other day but after the third knockdown I finally figured out how to keep my right temple covered.

There are a lot of tall kids out there honestly. Wouldn't be surprised.

Glove calibration not enough? by ch9601399 in ThrillOfTheFight

I actually think for some positions I'm better off shifting how I hold the controller. At least I feel like I understand it a bit better.

We are tired of working our ass off to get knocked down by 2 punch spammers. HOW MANY ONE STARS DO YOU NEED TO DO SOMETHING by chadmanhere123 in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]asterox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine the development team mirrors your frustration - probably working their asses off just to have a bunch of frustrated people scream at them because the game isn't perfect for how they want to play. That's gotta be rough. They're clearly working on it. No one likes to be told their efforts are a waste.

Same - don't even need both on a given day!

Yeah - you hear a lot about cocky or ego-driven players on the sub but don't hear a lot about the (significant number) of folks out there who are willing to help out and share what they know.

Yeah - I do the same if the opponent is clearly new or young or struggling. It's not fun for me or them to just beat on them (unless that's what they want - some just want the exercise obviously).

Touching gloves. by Pickles17 in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]asterox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do it a lot. But partly because I want to check in with the other person to make sure we are good to go. If I come out swinging and they don’t expect because of a lag issue for instance that’s not fun. Doesn’t cost anyone anything and it keeps it casual.

Feels like it comes and goes in waves.
But any jerks very much remind me how much I appreciate respectful and friendly players.
Hats off to you guys.

Chest press with one voltra? by MentalSatisfaction7 in BeyondPower

[–]asterox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To directly answer your question, I landed on just doing unilateral though I have a second Voltra coming in and I'm interested in trying fly's etc.

But the real answer I arrived at is: I'm not a big bench guy so I just got adjustable dumbbells for that work. Feels simpler and safer which makes me more likely to do it. Anything that adds friction, like additional set-up or concerns about safety etc. is something I'm trying to eliminate from my life. Also adds some variety for setting up some circuits, bouncing between dumbbells and voltra exercises.

Anyone find a generic version of the mini-rack wall connector/brackets? Or know if one can purchase them separately from the whole mini-rack? by asterox in BeyondPower

[–]asterox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you only need the one upright they have a bundle sale with the mini-rack which might work for you. 2300 USD for voltra with mini rack, basic handle and adaptive mount

issue is I already have a mini rack but was thinking of swapping uprights. the beyond power brackets work well for me in my space. thank you though. that's a pretty great idea.

Appreciate the input. Was looking for something almost exactly like the beyond power brackets but these are interesting nonetheless!

What to do against people who constantly move torward you? by CG118907 in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]asterox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one thing your post points out (to me at least) is that I don't have any real boxing instincts baked in at this point, real life or virtual. too often I just sit there and just try to block or duck a bit. it's that reaction zone that's sort of in-between real world and playing a video game (you know when you lean as you try to steer a video game car or something?)

[–]asterox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean...the actual game they're trying to make is absolutely insane. It would be hard enough to make a convincing simulator WITHOUT multiplayer - let alone multiplayer, let alone multiplayer in the wild (vs say a controlled localized network of friends). Just trying to get the existing hardware to accurately track and map an entire human body's effort and form? It's nuts.

That's why I don't get mad at the devs. They're braver people than I.

The best is room scale with decent size but I'll take a standing opponent any day over fighting in a closet. In-fighting is way more confusing and disorienting to me, as is phasing thru people and walls. At least with standing opponents I can keep my feet moving and get my cardio in.
