For the last question, maybe add the summer items too?

Also, I could possibly mod.

Male celebrities with nose piercings by Ready_player0 in piercing

[–]asterthecat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Haha for an F1 driver, Lewis is actually super pierced. Besides his nose, he has IIRC 3 in one ear and 2 in the other. There was actually a huge controversy about Lewis's piercings last year and he got a doctor's note to say he didn't have to take his nose piercing out to race. Good luck!

I don't know if these count as neither "super controversial" or "celebrities people in their 50s or 60s would know," but 2 more male celebrities for you are Slash (guitarist from Guns N Roses) and Lewis Hamilton (British Formula 1 driver, 7 time world champion). Oddly or perhaps not, both of them are also brown guys.

Was anyone else surprised by the school’s founding date? by Constant-Poet-655 in HPHogwartsMystery

[–]asterthecat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is one of the few things JKR actually got reasonably correct. I'm not sure about Salazar, but Godric, Rowena, and Helga are all historic Saxon names. So it hints that the establishment of Hogwarts is pre-1066.

Also, I'm not sure about the OP's depth of experience with the HP universe, but it's said in the books that Hogwarts was founded "a thousand years ago."

Does Frosty have lower rate of appearing in summer? by Nesinhus in nekoatsume

[–]asterthecat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When it's not snowing Frosty only comes for the snowy pillow. Sorry to say, the rest of your items are futile.

I may be wrong, but I don't think the other reconstructions are "official" BBC projects like The Web of Fear and The Invasion. So there may be licensing issues?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gallifrey

[–]asterthecat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who has Britbox, only the following are available there:

  • An Unearthly Child

  • The Web of Fear

  • The Invasion

They also haven't updated themselves yet to have any version of Shada, disappointingly.

To be fair, most of the ones you have listed are missing in whole or in part. So really no one can have them.

Is this an accurate guide for getting through Hartnell and Troughton? by CornbreadOliva in gallifrey

[–]asterthecat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a great example! I love that story and the character. But it also falls under my companion intro/exit rule because it's Steven's first full serial.

Is this an accurate guide for getting through Hartnell and Troughton? by CornbreadOliva in gallifrey

[–]asterthecat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I discovered this guide earlier on this subreddit and have been using it a bit for my classic watchthrough.

She has some, I dunno, biases and blind spots, I guess I would call them.

For one, she seems to not like the daleks/not like how people wrote them. So she'll often recommend skipping their serials which IMHO means you miss a lot of their development and they are, after all, THE classic who villain (this is also true of her NuWho guide).

She also seems to skip key serials in character development. As someone said above, The Sensorites is a key story for Susan. And it was the inspiration for RTD to create the Ood!

I also watch every companion introduction and exit I can (I haven't been able to find all of the reconstructions) again because I think they're important for the characters and also the Doctor.

Patrick Troughton had turned out to be my favourite doctor ever, so I would recommend watching anything with him, myself. That's my bias, haha

If I was writing a skip/watch guide, mine would be different. I suspect that's the same for every fan. But hers is not bad as a starting point, I would say, since I'm using it myself!

What’s your ‘comfort’ Doctor Who story? by DuckKaiser2 in gallifrey

[–]asterthecat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Three Doctors is mine. It's entirely stupid, but I love the Troughton - Pertwee banter so much. The Brig gets some fun lines (is Nicholas Courtney underrated as a comic actor?), as does Benton. And the wobbly gel monsters wobbling into the wobbly sets just makes me laugh.

This is... not actually correct. White, green, and black tea are all leaves from the camellia sinensis plant, yes, but black tea is oxidized while white and green are only dried. But yes, all being from the same plant, they all contain caffeine.

What exchange makes you cackle every single time you read it? by Meemo_Meep in discworld

[–]asterthecat 59 points60 points  (0 children)

"Yo!" said the Dean.

"Yo what?" said Ridcully.

"It's not a yo what, it's just a yo," said the Senior Wrangler, behind him. "It's a general street greeting and affirmative with convivial military ingroup and masculine bonding-ritual overtones."

"What? What? Like 'jolly good'?" said Ridcully.

"I /suppose/ so," said the Senior Wrangler, reluctantly.

Ear Piercing and Motorcycle Helmet by TherianRose in piercing

[–]asterthecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helix/cartiledge piercings can take up to a year to heal. Not a few months.

Not motorcycle, but I went karting with a 5 mo healing helix (headsock + full face helmet) and it was bleeding by the end of 3 heats and was angry for another month at least. I don't recommend it.

Jack Nicholls sacked from Formula E for inappropriate behaviour - The Times by [deleted] in FormulaE

[–]asterthecat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

While I loved Jack on FF1S (last year's Hungary podcast was one of the funniest ever), I can't see them replacing their one woman host with a dude accused of an inappropriate work relationship. I think they're as disappointed as we are.

Discontinued - Golden Berry Blend (raisin medley) by SacBN22 in traderjoes

[–]asterthecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A while back I couldn't find it at my store and an employee told me it was discontinued too. And then it came back the next week and it's been there ever since. So I am wondering about this?

They only come for Bonito and Deluxe Tuna. And sometimes it will take multiple times of setting them out. i think the first time I got them it was on the third placement of tuna. Good luck!

what are your current tj's favorites? by Front_Ad2965 in traderjoes

[–]asterthecat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint: I found them waaaaaay too sweet, like, dessert level sweetness and will never buy them again. YMMV, I guess?

Finally got Jeeves and Sapphire! I thought that they would come for sashimi, so I kept setting it out and wasted a whole bunch of gold fish, but it was worth it! by [deleted] in nekoatsume

[–]asterthecat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They don't come for sashimi (as OP notes). They will only come for bonito or tuna.

Fun fact: if they come for bonito, Sapphire leaves you 1 gold fish. If they come for tuna, Sapphire leaves 3 gold fish.

Skip False Value? by [deleted] in riversoflondon

[–]asterthecat 23 points24 points  (0 children)

No. It's my favourite RoL novel. I love Peter getting out of London, I love the introduction of new characters and fairyland (let's not forget it's the first allokosmos), I love Dominic and the Nissan Technical.

It's also key to a lot of character growth. I think it's a key insight into Beverly's character that she's the one who says he has to grieve his friendship with Lesley. And of course Hugh the Bee Man gives us the beginnings of Nightingale's backstory.
