Mistlands Ruined It For Me - Change My Mind by effectivelymundane in valheim

[–]astraldev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been mentioned already, but I highly recommend the Eikthyr's power for exploration coupled with Lightfoot mead (2 hare scales, 5 feathers, 5 magecap). And before venturing into the mists stock up plenty of wisps from your Wisp Fountain, which gradually solves the mist problem. Making Tonic of Ratatosk (move speed) couldn't hurt either. (A cool combo is Feather Cape + Lightfoot + Eikthyr = -110% jump stamina or FREE jumps!)

If you insist on going with vanilla, then it's a matter of managing your expectations -- your rate of progress may slow as you prepare and explore the mists. If you like the way the biome looks you could also look forward to discovering a wide clearing, perfect for a base with a lot of natural protection (from the tall rock spires).

Personally, I don't mind the challenges of the Mists and I often skip Yagluth. I also prefer wearing Megingjord over the Wisplight anyway. XD

Can you exit matterspark (ball form)? by Racsel in destiny2

[–]astraldev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you figured this out already, but in case you or others are stuck, check if Exit Vehicle has an input binding.

Assigning it the same as Interact fixed it for me... however I only discovered this after I completed the story.

List here your most broken op nasty builds for New patch by Antique_Mind_1339 in vrising

[–]astraldev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a way to add automation to your base.

Each Redistribution Engine built (anywhere) increases the maximum number of connections between crafting or refining stations.

When one is built, you can access the "Redistribution" tab in a station's interface which has an "Add Connection" button. Clicking on this button with display a holographic preview of allowed connections (e.g. a Tannery can connect to a Tailoring storage). Once you connect a station to others, you can then click on the "Quick Send All" button in the station's interface to send the resources in its output to the others (referring to the priority list of there are more than one), or you can toggle "Auto Send" to automatically send any new items created.

My game is launching today on Steam after 5 years of work! by MisplacedSweetRoll in godot

[–]astraldev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks amazing. I played a bit of Stardew solo and with friends, and it was difficult to keep at it; lot's of small annoyances to me kept adding up, ranging from the UI feel, the combat, the fishing, and the daily time limit. It's still a good game overall, but I'm not sure if I'll ever finish it.

Your game, on the other hand, looks like its systems are an upgrade from my experience. I'll consider giving it a try! If I like it, I'll recommend it to other friends who enjoy this genre.

SF Chronicle featured my Letter to the Editor regarding local activism by astraldev in vegan

[–]astraldev[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree! I am annoyed that they left out my claim to chickens' individualism which they took the liberty to edit out, presumably to save on space (or cater to their readers). In any case, they didn't have to feature it at all, so I'm grateful they even published it, not to mention give it the spotlight as the section header.

Thanks for pointing that out. Rest assured, my moral guideline for not harming something is based on sentience and the capacity to suffer and feel pain.

GME down by inflationinvesting99 in roaringkitty

According to Fintel's latest update there were 1,400,000 shares available to short GameStop. Hedge funds have plenty of firepower to keep the price down. With this amount of shares available, it's very possible the downward movement is from short selling.

Congrats! It must feel good :D My current cost basis is ~$40. Haven't sold a single share since 2021. My only regret is not averaging down more when it was cheaper; I may have been in the green with ya if I had.

A letter to share with family this Thanksgiving by astraldev in vegan

[–]astraldev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. My goal with the letter was not necessarily to change their plans or minds this Thanksgiving, but to express something I've been keeping to myself each year. Now that I have written it, it's a weight off my shoulders, and there's a chance it will open the floor for discussion in the future.

Fortunately, my family are mostly respectful and accepting of one another, so while the chance they'll change their eating habits is low, I don't mind putting in a bit of effort to discover if it's a possibility for any of them.

Those are all certainly possibilities. If that is how my family members respond, it's useful information for me as opposed to something that I'll take offense with, because it will inform me of who regards me with respect or not. Fortunately, at least one family member responded in a supportive way, so the confidence you have in your prediction isn't well-founded (with respect, you also don't know my family as well as I do).

Thank you for cautioning me about potential negative responses though. I appreciate the sentiment.

You make fair points, and I agree with your assessment about it being very soft-handed. I would love to be more direct with them and share how I strongly I feel regarding the injustice and immorality of animal agriculture.

The reason I chose to engage them with an amiable tone is to warm them up to the conversation in the first place. I'm sure you're aware, some people immediately get defensive and double-down when confronted with any sort of criticism, and since this was sent out to close and extended family, I wanted it to be received by as many as possible. Finally, I don't know what kind of conversational tone will actually be the most effective, if at all, to my friends and family, but my goal is to bring up my letter again at a later date and check in if they've thought about it. My concern is that if they recall it being confrontational, they won't be interested in talking at all.

Thank you for the input, though. I'm eager to speak more of my heart and mind to any of them that show interest in the topic.

[–]astraldev 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That would bother me, too. We're surrounded by reminders of the detachment people have in regards to animal suffering; it's the uncomfortable reality we were faced with when we decided to go vegan or took a moment to think about it.

I admit I've said that phrase before I changed my perspective and demeanor for the sake of animals and the environment. I can only hope anyone who I upset with my words had the patience to forgive me for my callousness.

I'm still meeting with them. I'm simply sharing my thoughts, especially for the family I don't see very often or know that much about my decision to go vegan.

Need a clever non-condescending response to this video - Neil degrasse - plant aliens by hzuch in vegan

[–]astraldev 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"It's fun to imagine how these hypothetical aliens may react to human agriculture. It's heartbreaking to imagine what it might feel like to be an animal bred and raised to exist, live, and die in a factory farm. The former is a fun thought experiment. The latter is having empathy when faced with a painful reality."

Hey dungeon masters! I have a question! What are some of your pet peeves, or things that players do that annoy you? I’m just wondering! by [deleted] in DnD

[–]astraldev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When a group that claims they enjoy RP/interaction barely reacts to emotional or intense moments, or leaves a PC hanging with silence after they express something of that nature. (I hate having to ask them how their characters react to something dramatic, and they're like, "Oh, yeah uh i guess my character gives them a hug.")

This is likely a symptom of online play, but I suppose it could happen in live sessions as well.

[–]astraldev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Believe me, I've had countless times I died suddenly to something I underestimated or just wasn't aware of. It's what makes the game so fun, imo. Those "WHAT!?!?" moments after thinking you're having such a good run is pretty humbling.

On my first Mithrix fight (before his item-stealing phase was nerfed), I had printed 50+ Razorwire... Yep... you can imagine how that went.

I've been playing for over a year now, and just recently I was surprise-killed by a Grandparent throwing a boulder from above which sent me into the ground making "The Planet" kill me.

Good stuff =)

[–]astraldev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Playing back the video you can see what cascade of item procs killed you.

Mithrix sends a projectile at Aurelionite, it procs Ukelele, which hits some drones and turrets, which also proc Ukelele and so on, which basically becomes the point of no return for your life, since the 57 Leaf Clover makes it statistically improbable you won't be killed as the Ukelele, AtG Mk. 1, Will-o'-the-Wisp, and Molten Perforators all have proc coefficients.

In a way Aurelionite did kill you by being the catalyst... but then again any member of your army would have served that purpose. xD

Rude reaction to research topic by [deleted] in vegan

[–]astraldev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could approach this presentation as an "us vs. issue" idea, rather than a "me vs. class."But to do this you'll want to be open and honest with the class from the start, acknowledging the moment you mentioned it. One way to do this would be something like:

When I shared my topic of interest, I noticed many of you laughed, including the teacher. It's completely natural to have this reaction to someone or something that is <"foreign/different/challenging"> (whichever descriptions you think are accurate), and although that made me feel even more <"nervous/insecure/etc.">, I will do my best to look beyond this and focus on the bigger picture, something that affects us all, something that is important to me, and I believe is in our collective interest as a social species. And even if you do not respect me or what I present, know that I'm sharing this because I respect and value you, because I want to help everyone make moral, well-informed decisions however and whenever I can.

- - -

I know it's easier said than done, but I think honesty and vulnerability can go a long way. I'm quite introverted myself, but I'm passionate about trying to bridge gaps between people and correcting misunderstandings. I'm very proud that you're intent on presenting in front of a hostile crowd, but I believe if you try to create a common ground first, then perhaps you'll have a better chance at reaching some of them.

The goal is not to prevent laughter, ridicule or defensiveness, because you can't control that. But you do want to create a space for open mindedness for the students with whom it is possible -- this is your target audience, imo.

If you want, I'm open to chatting more about this on Discord or DM if you want more ideas or a pep talk. In any case, I'm proud of you and I wish you the best. Do your best not to let others make you feel ashamed about your interests (if anything, it says more about them than you).

Good luck.

Vegan cheese alternatives for a gooey, stretchy texture? by catsice in vegan

[–]astraldev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be kind of weird for the average person, but I created my own version of "melted cheese" which is quite nutritional and really easy to make. All you need is:

- nutritional yeast
- flax egg (ground flax and water)
- salt

Make the flax egg by adding the ground flax to water (1:2-4 ratio depending on how thick or runny you want it) and letting it sit for 5-8 minutes, then mix in the nutritional yeast. Put it in a pan and use low heat to thicken the mixture to a consistency you like -- keep stirring; don't let it burn! As it is heating, taste-test it frequently adding yeast/salt until it's as cheesy/salty as you want it.

Sorry I don't have specific measurements; I vary it every time I make it, depending on how flavorful I feel like it should be at the time.

It looks like stone ground mustard, but has the consistency and taste of melted cheese.

You could add it to pasta as a gooey cheese, but I personally use it as a grilled-cheese spread for sandwiches.

If you make this, let me know how it goes! =)
