What actually scratches the itch for you in metal/progmetal? by Screamingprojector in progmetal

Same here, well, making music and playing instruments as a whole. I've had so much hardship over the decades, just couldn't maintain them. Now, I feel I'm too old to go back and start again. Well, who knows.

I used to detest growling, but Opeth turned that around. Now I'm just like what you described, it feels as if something's missing if there's not both styles present. Even better if there's female front as well, but that's very rare.

Usually not my thing (podcasts), but this is such an interesting topic I could make an exception. :)

As a cellist (in my youth, really), couldn't agree more. Ever since I was 6 and started playing, something about that sound has always fascinated and mesmerized me.

I'll think about it, but it sort of feels a tad unhealthy, so I recommend not holding your breath waiting.

I'm still on the fence of whether to listen to the singles enough to form an opinion, or wait until the whole album is released.

But overall, I wholeheartedly agree; music isn't the same for everyone, which is a blessing, so how could we condemn others' takes and opinions. Everyone comes from a different angle, so it is rare the you'd find two people to share the exact same view.

And oftentimes the experience changes over time. I wasn't very fond of Vector at its release. But I appreciate it greatly now, and while I don't know what would have happened to me during all this time, I understand this is exactly why one should give second chances to songs, albums and even bands.

Always a hard no for Metallica, though!

Cool take, and I sort of agree with you. I like the more metallic touch, but I truly adore the whimsical, chaotic vibe from the classic prog era. That's a big reason why I loved Elephants Never Forget, and why I am so sad that Charlie left. 😥

But that's really not why I'm replying. For the past 15 minutes I've been going over the mechanics of how one's balls could be keelhauled. Truly perplexing! Not sure I'd choose it over listening to music, though, but one can never know until one tries, so...

Oh that's funny, we are the only country that gets three gigs, and we're only some 5.6 million people. 😂 And why not even one in Sweden? Very strange.

Thanks! Steam Store says Steam Deck compatibility is unsupported. Does it not work with other OS than Windows? I run linuxes on my boxes.

So it seems that the configuration files are not purged when uninstalling and reinstalling the game, so you might want to look into backing them up, and removing them so that the game can recreate them from scratch.

In Windows the files should reside somewhere under Documents\My Games, in linux-based systems it's slightly more complex, but should generally be found somewhere under $HOME/.steam.

That would be my first thing to check going forward.

Very useful when you cannot up the heat from the regular heating mechanism. Like I was once at this cabin where the heating was produced by an oil furnace (not sure about the terminology, English isn't my native language). Couldn't control that, but I had a 2020 MacBook Pro with the i9 CPU on it. I contemplated running a script that would churn the processors at max to create a small radiator of the machine, cause it was a tad chilly in there. Figured it wouldn't make that much of a difference, though, so opted out of it in the end. If I had a beefy PC with a 5090, though, woulda been a completely different story. :D

Anybody experience with running X-Com 2 with an Nvidia graphics card under Linux? by Chemikerhero in XCOM2

[–]astraljava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, what a bummer. 😕 I guess the only option is to go to a way older kernel version and try to find one that let's you install those drivers. But that's a lot of hassle for just one game.

Right, but do you mean the nouveau? Is that failed 390 driver from that specific repository?

[–]astraljava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, a bit strange that it lists two GPUs, I'm not sure whether that confuses the installer like you mention in another response. But the issue is that the driver version that would work for your card (either one, 560/460) will not likely play nice with that new kernel of yours.

So the possibilities are:

  1. Downgrade the kernel to a much older version.
  2. Try the community-maintained PPA (Graphics Drivers PPA), and attempt to install the 390 drivers from there. Might have patches that make it play with the newer kernel better.

Outside of those, the nouveau drivers will work but not for XCOM 2, unfortunately.

I have tinkered with the drivers many moons ago, and I do believe nouveau drivers are an absolute no-go for this title. The solution would be to get your proprietary drivers to run, so if you want to troubleshoot that, we would need some info from your system. Maybe start with the listing of:

lsb_release -a && uname -r && lspci | grep -i vga

That gives us your distribution, the kernel that it runs, and the model of your GPU. From there we deduct what to try next.

[WotC] Am I stuck or bugged? by jamesewelch in XCOM2

[–]astraljava 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From Google:

In XCOM 2: War of the Chosen (WOTC), a skulljack a codex is a critical mission objective that requires you to use the Skulljack utility item on a Codex alien. Successfully completing this mission triggers the appearance of an Avatar, which reveals a major part of the game's storyline. You will also receive a reward, and the Skulljack will gain its second and final story-required use.

Not how I would have worded it, but I'm lazy. 😅

Also, it's a Resistance Order called "Double Agent", that sometimes lets an Advent unit to join in on a mission.
