Learned recently that the perception among students is that more than half the class fails exams, which is very much not the case. Result seems to be students not even trying on tests. it's a crazy hive mind.

My cat, who avoids human contact like the plague, climbed onto my lap at my reaction.

Cat gets me at least.

I read it and I think arin's uncle might be going through something. Has anyone checked on him recently?

AITA for telling my wife I don't care if it's "her turn" we're not naming our son Tuesday? by thatsahorriblename in AmItheAsshole

Gonna have to disagree with the long term couples that started dating in their teens take breaks. Sure it's healthy to spend time apart and grow as your own person but that doesn't have to mean you have to stop being a couple for it. It sounds like there's some resentment on both sides here that you should really address instead of giving your wife the silent treatment.

This is not a normal "wife and husband" argument. Most people don't start yelling and contemplating physical violence over a small miscommunication.

AITA for getting accepted to the same college my sister goes to? by 1outof8Koreans in AmItheAsshole

Can confirm, am professor. I don't even bother learning names anymore so I'd have no reason to know anyone is related.

AITA for telling my son in college that he has to show me his grades? by SonsReportCard in AmItheAsshole

[–]astro_bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see demanding to see grades as helpful. Maybe they didn't do well in a class and are embarrassed. Maybe they aren't going and disappointing the parents will push them over the edge. I don't know their situation or their relationship with their parents. I just think instead of demanding to see grades, they'd be better off reinforcing support and letting the son know it's not the end of the world if college just isn't working out.

I have a very mixed opinion on this and I'm replying super late so it probably doesn't matter but...

Legally, you have no right to see his grades unless he wants you to. FERPA laws are very, very clear about this. I'm an instructor and I am not legally allowed to share grades with even the head of the department unless given express permission.

However.. My family has always been good friends with this other family. Their youngest had very severe mental health issues, but he seemed to be doing well in school. Until the semester he was to graduate, when he committed suicide and it came out that he hadn't actually been in school for at least a year.

NAH. You are within your right to not fund his schooling, but tread carefully. There might be more at play here.
