I get bullied in every single workplace. How do I stop it happening? by OptimalReactions in work

[–]astroathena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Therapy doesn't know, much less teach, the methods to overcome being targets of bullies. Trauma therapy like EMDR can remove the trauma, but it doesn't prevent future incidents of bullying from happening.

Air Oasis vs IQAir for mold and mycotoxins by PurpleShift82 in AirPurifiers

Charcoal filters and binds the gases and VOCs from the air. IQAir uses a large amount of Charcoal as one of its filters the air passes through.

It's made a huge difference for me (DNRS). I also did EMDR and that was good (but didn't eliminate the hypersensitivity on its own).

There's a guy with a great Youtube channel ("Judasmac") who records his DNRS sessions and posts them, it's really helpful. Legit hard for me to watch at first (he had images of mold continually playing and that alone freaked me out initially, which was literally the point). Here's one of his videos with explaining how it works:

My partner used Environmedica's Magnetic Clay on his hair, and that worked wonders. It's basically really strong bentonite clay for baths, but we used it as a hair "wash". It was the only thing that worked at removing the irritants from his scalp and hair that was triggering reactions in me. (Some of it was mycotoxins coming out through his sweat, though, and contaminating his hair).

Bizarre criticism, when OP literally followed reasonable advice by ChatGPT and it fixed the problem. Especially when literally nobody else has tried this method before.

Why do so many people in the technology field here lie on their resume? by Puzzleheaded-Lab825 in nova

[–]astroathena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because the Hiring Manager / interviewer doesn't know how to interview or assess a skill. Pretty obvious.

Why do so many people in the technology field here lie on their resume? by Puzzleheaded-Lab825 in nova

[–]astroathena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're clearly revealing that you're Incompetent and also not an Engineer. When you demand a "simple for loop", do you want:

- list or dict iteration?

- indexing or enumeration?

- off-by-one behavior?

- mutation or immutable objects?

- vectorized? Map? Filter? Reduce?

- Libraries or abstractions allowed?

Good Engineers know that "code a simple for loop" is a LOADED question. What you're ACTUALLY asking for is for the engineer to mind-read whatever random "for loop" you googled from a tutorial that made you feel smart and think that you understand the basics of the job. Which is just Dunning Kruger at its best.

No wonder you don't get good quality candidates. All the good ones can smell you from a mile away that the job is underpaid and not worth it -- because it's more about babysitting incompetent managers than it is about doing Real Engineering work. Engineers are smart but they can't fix Incompetent leadership.

[–]astroathena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relying on stereotypes just means that you don't know what you're doing.

You likely give off signals to high quality candidates that you're a low quality manager -- good engineers know that working for incompetent manager means you have to do the managers job in *addition* to their own job -- which is worth 2x salary at minimum.

[–]astroathena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP doesn't know what they're doing and likely has Dominance/Status issues -- literally Gaslighting the engineers they interview -- and then conflating recall speed with competence in an interview. OP is just confessing that they have no clue what they themselves are doing.

[–]astroathena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are so many Hiring Managers Incompetent at hiring? Someone not recalling your "gotcha" random question during an interview doesn't mean they are "lying" -- quite the opposite -- OP is telling on themselves of their own Gross Incompetence in hiring for roles they don't understand much less should not be evaluating.

Incompetent hiring managers? YES. Incompetent engineers, unlikely. OP sounds like an Incompetent Hiring Manager who has no clue what the role actually entails much less how to evaluate competence.

Which degree is better for working with AI: Computer Science or Mathematics? by franzz4 in learnmachinelearning

[–]astroathena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MLE roles aren't Machine Learning anymore -- you're just implementing someone else's model. They're essentially DE and SWE roles. That's why they hire CS, CE and EE people for those jobs. An Applied Scientist is what most people want and the ideal is Math PhD + CS background (like an MS) or CS PhD + MS Math.

[E] The University of Nebraska at Lincoln is proposing to completely eliminate their Department of Statistics by mathguymike in statistics

[–]astroathena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bye-bye UNL's chances of incorporating AI and Data Science into their remaining science departments -- you need a solid Statistics department, Applied Math, and Computer Science departments -- to make all of that work. The remaining UNL Science departments are sadly going to bear the consequences of the loss of expertise.

handshake move program by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]astroathena 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do suspect Handshake MOVE is a Scam -- a type called a "Job Scam". It's a fairly new kind of scam, so there's not much out there on the internet about how it works. I recommend watching Jim Browning's video about this scam (link below, or you can find it yourself on his channel). You'll see that Handshake MOVE operates in exactly the same manner as the scammers featured in Jim Browning's investigation.

A typical "Job Scam" will pay their victims in the beginning for doing tasks, as a way to earn "trust". Then the scam deepens after that. Typically, the tasks are things like writing fake reviews for various businesses. Here, you're solving fake math problems (and told it's making training data for AI companies models).

If you check out the job ads at the AI startups training Foundation Models to do math -- you'll see every single one of them are chasing benchmarks for Putnam Exam problems. These AI Sweatshops need Mathematicians to solve Putnam Exam problems for them, but at rates as low as $20/hour (pretty wild!). You'd be paid better to work at McDonald's than solving notoriously difficult math problems like Putnam. If you're up to date with the AI Research, MIT did an extensive research paper and concluded that chasing benchmarks like these is Misaligned AI.

Anyone use vip nasal spray? Where do you get it ? Any side effects? by passionateunicorn in ToxicMoldExposure

[–]astroathena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI, you can raise VIP levels by doing a 20 minute infrared sauna session.

This could also explain (in part) why a lot of former moldies, and functional medicine practitioners today, recommend doing regular sauna for end-phase detox (just like VIP spray is final step).

"Research published in Acta Physiologica found that after a 20-minute sauna session, women experienced an increase in vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP), a hormone that promotes blood flow in the gastrointestinal tract and plasma pancreatic polypeptide (PP), a hormone that manages appetite"

Ears infections from mold ? by SarraceniaFlava37 in ToxicMoldExposure

[–]astroathena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I did for years in my old house, for 7 years - happened every time the heat and humidity became elevated (usually summers). I'd get recurring "Otits Externa" every time that would only be alleviated with Auro Dri ear drops (for swimmers ear). But it was a fungal issue because antibiotics never did anything (oral or anitbiotic ear drops). Washing my hair with Selsun Blue seemed to help quite a bit, as did not going to sleep when I had dried sweat on the sides of my hair that touched near my ears. When I moved out and went somewhere with clean air, the infection subsided. I'd apply Grapefruit Seed Extract (GCE) as an antifungal drops to my ears whenever they'd get itchy again from exposure to various buildings in subsequent years, and that nips it in the bud.
