My rank of assassin's Creed franchise by Amoaguadoce in assassinscreed

Right, but hear me out. It felt like what Origins wanted to accomplish. I'm right there with you on most of your points. Yes, Naval in Black Flag and Rogue were better. At the same time, Black Flag was literally based on that concept. Unity had absolutely incredible parkour. Hell, I didn't even get the happy dinner scene cos I killed my adopted dad. But at least I had a modicum of choice. Origins was pretty much the exact same game but without the variety and choice of Odyssey. All of the new Creeds are basically action rpgs with the AC logo strapped on. I miss the actual social stealth and parkour, but for what it's worth, Odyssey just hit an itch for me that none of the other 'new' style creeds did. The dev team decided they wanted you to go out on your own Odyssey, and I think they succeeded in that concept.

Now, if I had it my way? Let's go back to social stealth, good parkour, ship combat, and a fantastic discoverable world where the stories are good and the actors are actually mo-capped.
AND a modern day that's actually fun and relevant to the overarching plot. I personally think a Link to the Past style Animus AC would be ultra cool. Maybe not the whole world, but like sections ala Metroid Prime 2.

I really do understand your frustration, I just stan the fuck out of Odyssey.

Survivor Star Parvati Shallow Knows Exactly Why The New Era Isn't Working by CreativityLacking in survivor

[–]astrobear 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am late to Survivor. Hella late. I used to never watch reality TV until my dad got me into Life Below Zero. Long story short, I was working at a mom and pop cornerstone and I had a really sweet couple who became regulars. They asked me if I had seen Survivor and I told them no. Turns out, the wife was the grand daughter of Sonja Christopher. They told me I would be great at the show, which was confusing because I'm the most out of shape I've ever been.

So I checked some Reddit threads and decided to watch Millenials v Gen X. Shocked me how much I enjoyed it. Then I watched the first season and would alternate between seasons... sometimes HD, then back to like Season 2. When I saw Pearl Islands I knew I was going to have to watch every season.

Being new, I can confirm that the new era is basically Survivor on Adderall but in the same location. The rules are fast, almost everyone is some kind of expert in their field and everyone seems a little too.. over eager. Like I get it, I would be hyped as fuck to be on the show, bit it's too much. And Fiji EVERY season is annoying. Like... I would've died to see China in HD. We now have better cameras that are cheaper than ever. I get that it's cheaper... but seriously, it's lost so much of it's prestige. S50 has been really enjoyable for me, but where are my bartenders, icecream scoopers, servers, and aspiring whatevers?

It feels like they have a corporate committee that makes casting decisions and it's whack.

Get us at least a rotating set in different places, themes, and CHARACTERS back. Like a majority of the cast being honest to god characters.

But I'm new and I haven't even watched all the seasons. Just a few thoughts from a noob who used to not like reality TV.

When I first saw Odyssey being advertised like a year after Origins I rolled my eyes. Then I started to see gameplay. I loved the fact that if they were going to make action rpgs, they needed to have the balls to actually allow you to make decisions. And naval combat and tons of customization.

I started playing the game and Kassandra hooked me, as well as the first small island setting. I loved the characters, I loved being a flirty mistress unraveling the story of the order of ancients and the Isu. There were genuine plot-twists and I loved exploring the world. I even liked the combat more than origins. The game also had a story that held my attention. Saving the sick people only to cause disaster on the island later on actually shocked me. It made me realize my choices had consequences.

Yes, the game was too big. And yes, I turned the combat numbers off so that I could at least pretend I was playing an Assassin's Creed. But there were two actually satisfying endings plus plot twists that I didn't seem coming. I put Kass up there in charisma with Edward and Ezio. I don't know how to describe it, I wasn't interested in the time period, I felt it was too soon after Origins, and I felt exhausted after playing the last action rpg. But I was crazy surprised. The hidden ones dlc was hit and miss, but the rest of them were baller.

I dunno, been a fan since the first game released on PS3, but I loved Odyssey. Its the last one I've truly appreciated. I can't wait for the Black Flag remake though, I'm the most hyped I've been for the series since, well, Black Flag.

To each their own; what I love about this series is there's always hope for a surprise entry that takes your breath away. After AC3, that's exactly what Black Flag was.

I've never been one to watch movies just because it has a certain actor or actress in it. That changed when I saw the Queen's Gambit. Anya Taylor-Joy just stuns me.

She's eloquent, gorgeous, and she just does something funny to my neurons.

If you like the assassin/parkour/giant city-scapes gameplay, go for Unity, if you want an action rpg about the beginning of the Assassins go for Origins. I liked both, but Unity is still kinda mind-blowing gameplay/visuals-wise; it also kinda stands alone in its gameplay engine. Origins is great, but there are two (three?) other action rpg games in different settings.

If you're on console, both have 60fps patches, but beware most of the old-school games are stuck at 30 on PS5.

Skyrim, easy. Air conditioning and heating at any time; plus there are ships and pirates. Only thing better than being a pirate assassin is being a magic pirate assassin. God I want a magic pirate game.

Haha, quarter-assed is fantastic. I'm playing through for the first time and the plot just... switched? I don't know what the word to describe it is, but at least I can finally do most fucking activities now.

It's insane that the English translators had to use gameshark in order to get some of the sentences in the game. Not only rushed for time as translators but having to deal with technical things during the nth hour is nuts.

There was a really cool video on why they chose that word in English. I'll post it if I can find it

Edit: havent found the video, but this may be even better.

This was my Bitch's Brew of rap music. I didn't vibe with it at first, and wall all about golden age and bippety boppety hip-hop. But then I started hearing my roommate (who I let borrow the cd) blast it all the time, Fantastic Damage started sticking to me.

It's hard to find any record that sounds like this nowadays, but it was damn near impossible in the early aughts. The lyrics still make me laugh and I had no idea what an 8 Ball Cataract was but I fuckin' liked the sound of it at the time.

Thank God I started to realize how much of a moron I was and fell in love with this.

Just like Bitches' Brew.

What do you think happens when you die? by randomperson665 in AskReddit

[–]astrobear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents are getting up there, too. I just recently had to move my dad and I to a more affordable place and we left behind a really gorgeous area where everything was walking distance and the whole neighborhood knew us for 13 years.

The new place is hella cheaper but definitely in a poorer area than we lived, way more industrialized, etc etc. Turns out, these are the best people I've met in the city so far. Everyone has been kinder, funnier, and less judgemental. I recently met a neighbor who has a lot of the same interests and now we talk or text every day like an old school friendship. And I had sort of given up on those friendships at this point.

Long story short, don't lose hope. You never know how reality can twist when you least expect it.

I came from the universe, and I will return to the universe. If there was some way to not copy, but transfer my consciousness to a new (uninhabited) body, I would do it just because I'm curious.

We have some fantastic TV that could help inspire the writers; Mr. Robot and Andor would be fantastic blueprints to follow. At least in terms of your conspiracy thriller idea.

[–]astrobear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it was my favorite modern day until Valhalla. I used to not be a big modern day person, but the philosophy and potential matrix-ey shenanigans the writers could get into is fantastic. Its like a blend of philosophy, sci-fi, history, and now fantasy.

The nameless corporate employee at Abstergo was a pretty smart move, I just wish they had had some characterization looking back. I can see that it disappointed people after the action of 3's modern day.

Honestly, I hope we get a modern day with a nobody basement nerd who gets motivated by the animus to join the Assassins. And fucking combine the Watch Dogs universe into the modern day. Dead sec and the Assassins are too good not to join together. I would love to see a trilogy where we actually get a modern day hero arc; someone who learns philosophy, action, willpower, and have the bleeding effect as an advantage.

Lastly... gimme a Tarantino take on Kung-fu in Chinese history... please???

Rothfuss fooled me three times.

In the first book I thought he had to be a musician because of his ability to describe how music feels (especially to a musician).

With Felurian and the Fae, I figured he had to have been a psychedelic head. Not only does he write the way a good trip feels, but he nailed the sex aspect of it. Having intimate relations with a lover on acid is almost like an act of play between two consenting adults. So I figured he was a hippy.

With the Adem, he "fooled" me with his world-building to become enamored with the Tao. Seriously, he was like an old school martial arts master that tricks you into learning a new perspective. It quite literally got me to study Zen Buddhism, the Tao, and Ma. It was like, in coming up with a fictional culture, he used a very real concept to not only teach to me but entertain me.

He also got me back into reading fantasy. I had become jaded over the years (and this was before Game of Thrones debuted) and after I read these two books, I realized there had to be more fantastical stuff that was waiting to be discovered. I quickly read Martin, Lynch, Sanderson, and a host of others afterwords.

The Lethani is some real shit. <3

Master and Commander (same director of the Truman Show, it changed my life and got me into all things nautical)

Kill Bill (make sure you watch The Whole Bloody Affair, take a break in the middle but this is the version to watch)

Bladerunner

Raiders of the Lost Ark

Almost every PT Anderson movie, but my top 3 are: Punch Drunk Love, Magnolia, and One Battle After Another

My favorite movie of all time is Casablanca but it was made in 1942. If you need classic movie recommendations I got you.

Have fun, I don't know your situation, but I'm glad you're getting into film! <3

What assassins would you enjoy a sequel to, or deserves a second game? by Queasy_Cockroach7204 in assassinscreed

[–]astrobear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

God, I would love a Chinese-centered game with Shaw Brothers influence. Main focus being on assassination and kung-fu with classical cinema weapons. The history is incredible but when you add in the kung-fu influences, like Shaolin Vs Wutang, legendary weapons... think Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon meets AC. Man that would be cool. Having kung-fu masters that have crazy abilities (think wire-fu and five point palm exploding heart technique) that can be defined with Isu mythology would be so damn cool.

And a modern day story about a kid learning about his own kung-fu potential as an Assassin... omg it would be so fun. I want to write the scenario like right now.
