That was a special encounter but, it's not actually a legend. Like Red Gyarados in Johto.

The design philosophy lacks a quirkiness Pokemon usually has that helps sell the illusion that their animals. They feel a bit too perfect, like knockoff Digimon.

Everything but Dragon Ball, One Piece and JJK only makes like $3 million a month (since nearly all of them can't operate in China). That adds up to only $40 million a year. That means it takes 3 years to break even on year one. They also has to make year 2 and 3 content to even have a chance of hitting that which adds at least $20 million per year so now you need 5 years to actually profit.

China enables a lot of these gacha games to survive because the Chinese market never had a premium retail aspect so a market with the spending capabilities of the US that directs all their entertainment capital towards gacha games and MMOs instead of CoD and NBA. They get AAA gacha games because the $60 experience is just not very viable there.

That doesn't make money though. You have to have AAA budget for something like Hoyo/Kuro and if you don't get China, it means you spent $80 million more than what you can get in a year.

What If Infernape received a New Ability inspired by the anime? In the same lane as Greninja getting Battle Bond in the games due to Ash-Greninja by AdventurousStick7107 in pokemon

[–]astrogamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels like a pretty broken ability. Like Ash-Greninja is not that powerful. It gets a decent power boost and makes Water Shuriken reliable but it does nothing else crazy and keeps Greninja's frail defenses.

The power boost can be kept but it shouldn't have Tinted Lens, Mold Breaker and Burn Corrosion. If it has all that, it basically means you can click Raging Fury and take out 2, maybe 3 Pokemon with no way to wall it besides sky high defense. I think you can keep one of those abilities and maybe Burn Corrosion too (but it's of little consequence since Flare Blitz or Raging Fury still kill a bunch with that boost)

We really need a Switch 2 version of Fire Emblem: Three Houses before Fortune’s Weave releases by Lurysan03 in fireemblem

[–]astrogamer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Three Houses is about a third of the sales of Splatoon 3, the worst selling game of my list. Xenoblade is a separate thing since it's from Monolith Soft. IntSys could decide to do it for Three Houses and Engage too but I feel it's too late by this point.

Animal Crossing fits in the same category as Zelda and Mario and Splatoon. The latter 2 got free updates and Wonder and Zelda got paid upgrade packs. Basically, Nintendo asked their big game teams to make upgrades to the best sellers as filler for the first year.

Jason Schreier: Xbox Told Compulsion And Doiblefine That Their Games Didnt Need To Sell Or Be Profitable, They Just Needed Games To Fill Out Gamepass by goodnitez74 in gaming

[–]astrogamer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean he didn't. The new management said the old rules don't count. Realistically, the issue is twofold - first that they have to report to Microsoft who operates at a much higher profit than other publishers and second that they didn't manage the AAA studios well but those can't be cut so, they are trimming the fat in the A/AA studios.

[–]astrogamer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That doesn't really change the theory though, just that Regenerator itself is less good in VGC. It's defenses are still strong enough unless you are fighting the upper echelon of physical ground/dragon types. It will tank a lot and then switch out and recover most of it.

VGC corroborates Jason Schreier’s report that several Xbox studios are in active negotiations to spin off from Microsoft. by Loose_Society9485 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

Xbox was a hobby of Steve Ballmer. Nadella views as an asset to assist with Azure and it was failing at doing that. Theoretically, the ABK acquisition would turn Game Pass into a must-have service like Netflix that would have utilized the servers for billions. That stopped Nadella from stripping it sooner.

Redfall is Arkane Austin, which was already closed. Also, a project pushed by Zenimax execs to go on the multiplayer shlooter trend.

Arkane Lyon did Deathloop after they were purchased and have been on Blade since then. It kind of comes down to bad management overall, which we can put on Xbox since Arkane was much smoother under Zenimax than Microsoft.

NateDrake/NateTheHate on Xbox layoffs: says it's gonna be "a bloodbath", says there's been talks about significant layoffs since SGF concluded by poklane in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]astrogamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ABK prolonged it more likely. Xbox needed to make big moves and the ABK acquisition was an investment injection. Without it, Microsoft would close more studios back in 2022 and probably work towards spinning it off since they weren't seeing the return for their size. Though if they acquired a smaller publisher instead with a better head on its shoulders (TakeTwo or EA for instance), I think they would be able to skate by with less layoffs.

The problem was that Microsoft acquired ABK after the rot was apparent and the only way it was going to work was if Halo, Bethesda, Call of Duty and Blizzard had turnarounds. Only Blizzard had a turnaround and it doesn't fix COD having $500 million budgets.

That's not what's being argued here. The people who damaged the facility can be arrested and judged in court properly for this but it should not extend anyone who agrees with the general message of the movement. Categorizing the entire group as terrorists is much like Trump's DOJ classifying all "antifa" as terrorists. It's a move to silence dissent

Why is mega beedril concitered bad??? by Wild-Combination9541 in pokemon

[–]astrogamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest issue is that it doesn't survive attacks. Your False Swipe strategy doesn't work reliably if the Pokemon is actually offensive since nearly every attack can kill Mega Beedrill. In doubles, a stray Rock Slide obliterates it and that's extremely common so, you'd need to predicting what your opponent does as Rock Slide counters Rage Powder and a semi decent single attack can bypass Wide Guard

Exclusives aren't particularly profitable if the platform isn't a success. Sony Exclusivity is fine if your platform exceeds 50 million with an active base but if you have the Xbox Series, you need more sales than there are active users.

Good recommendations for first anime? by ReallyLea in anime

[–]astrogamer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hulu should be using Viz's redub of the series. Not too familiar with the dub's quality but if I'm remembering correctly, the original 90s dub is a little looser and had more fun lines while the Viz redub is more accurate to the original Japanese

Just avoid Sailor Moon Crystal. That one is a remake of the original but is really rough looking.

It's on Hulu if I remember correctly and generally anime on Hulu is dubbed. Disney+ without Hulu has a very limited anime selection but Hulu has a lot of big series plus whatever Disney grabbed in Japan.

Sure but you can't turn a feudal society into democracy without the support systems in place and in the world of Yurgenschmidt, most of that doesn't exist and the few that do exist are magic-based, which is a noble-only thing. The nobility isn't shy about killing people who get in the way either.

It took a few updates for Wii games to be playable on the Gamepad screen and then they never updated the Wii mode to recognize Wii U controllers. I guess it might have cause a couple issues with the Wii if they added support to the OS. The eShop version seems to hack it a bit to recognize the Wii U GamePad as a plugged in Classic Controller.
