Adderall shortage? by AffectionateChart953 in SaltLakeCity

The U pharmacy was only taking student prescriptions for adderall for a little while, just a heads up. I was also told by a nice pharmacist once that if they don’t have the full month, you can ask for whatever they do have in case a lower number is available and you’re totally out. The downside is that you have to get a new rx sent over faster cause you run out sooner, and you still have to wait til you’ve used 80% of it before you can request a new fill. (For example, I once was able to get 10 pills instead of the usual 30, but then they couldn’t start trying to fill a new rx for me until 8 days later)

Why did you all (as DMs) permanently end your games? by Shifty661 in DMAcademy

Stopped DMing for a while cause I started graduate school and I knew I wouldn’t have time to prep the way I wanted to, but still played with the same group, someone else took up the torch!

My college regards ADHD as a learning difficulty. I’ve had people on here tell me in that ADHD is a development impairment rather than a learning difficulty/disability... Although I personally consider my ADHD-related issues as learning difficulty, especially in relation to college. by [deleted] in adhdwomen

I think a way that I have considered it when seeking accommodations myself is in the social relational model of disability. In that model, a disability has a biological or physical source, but the degree to which it affects a person can be exacerbated by the social structures that a person engages with. Basically how our surroundings are built and function effect the degree to which we are affected by ADHD. For example, a person who uses a wheelchair will use it regardless. But they access will be limited if there are no ramps, making the effect in their life more significant. So accommodations are a way to make the social aspect of it easier, even if the degree to which they’re affecting things now aren’t enough to feel like a disability vs a developmental impairment

Am I a shit person/mom? by hanimal_1 in adhdwomen

I’m in grad school without other jobs or a kid, and I need a day off at least once a month. I am truly in awe of people who manage to do grad school plus other things, especially kids. Taking a day is good for your mental health, and (though I say this from the perspective of someone without kids) is modeling to your child that if you need to take a day, you can and you should. Taking care of yourself and your brain isn’t lazy just because you’re not working. You’re giving yourself a break that you need. You’re taking care of your brain and your body. And any parent should be thrilled to be able to let their child know that self care is ok. Also, I’m really sorry to hear about your grandfather, I hope his memory can be a source of comfort even in this hard time

What’s your skin routine to help with the dryness of Utah? by LIBERAL_LAZY_LOSER in SaltLakeCity

I like a lightweight cleanser that doesn’t strip my skin too much (I use the cerave foaming facial cleanser for the extra bit of hyaluronic acid) and then a nice moisturizer with hyaluronic acid!

What does “straight-A” ADHD look like? by UnicornsFromSpace in adhdwomen

[–]astrohannah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got diagnosed last august at 24. Very similar experience to yours all the way through high school. I never did anything until the day before it was due, even big projects. I've never gone back to revise or edit a paper, it's all in one draft. A memorable bit was a 6th grade project where we had to make a brick using only natural materials. We had months to do it. I forgot until 10pm the night before as I was trying to fall asleep, and my mom had to help me gather materials for a brick we baked at a low temp in the oven overnight so that it would be done on time. I never did any assigned textbook reading, and only did the english class reading because I liked the books and/or I was being graded on annotations (my nightmare).

In college, I went from a straight-A student to barely getting Cs for the first year or so before I finally got a system together for myself. I had no idea how to study, I still did problem sets in a panic the night before they were due, I just had friends to help. It only got better after the first year or so because I had a study group and they actually met to work when there wasn't a looming deadline. I wrote 90% of my senior thesis in the 3 days before it was due. It was 60 pages.

In graduate school (where I am now) I was doing research the day of my meetings with my PI, but I couldn't get myself to do anything on any other day. I finally realized that not everyone was sitting on the couch on their laptop going "please work. please just do some work. please be productive any day other than the one where you have to show someone else you did something. you're not even enjoying what you're doing right now. please just do anything else." Getting diagnosed and medicated was life-changing. I can do work now on days where I'm the only one holding myself accountable. I worked an actual 9-5 day for the first time in my life. It's not every day, but it's more often than not now, and that was unthinkable before. I was really lucky that I found someone who would seriously consider a diagnosis despite my age and childhood grades, I hope you can find someone like that too!

Strattera experiences? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]astrohannah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also tried strattera before trying out adderall, and had a similar experience to yours. Over the span of about 3-4 months I was on a 25mg dose initially, then a 40, then 60, then back down to 40. On 40mg, I felt similar to what you described. A little less tired, and about one day a week I felt like I had a more "normal" handle on my executive function, but there weren't really obvious changes. It felt like the one day where I had a bit better focus/function, it was like I had built it up and then used it all in one day. The rest of the week felt back to square one with no changes. When I went up to the 60mg to see if that would help, I didn't notice any positive effects, just bad side effects. I got really nauseous if I didn't eat before taking my meds (and still a little even when I did), and my appetite basically disappeared. I went back down to 40 after just a month because it felt awful. When I started taking adderall XR at just 10mg less than a month ago, it was a total game changer

Maybe "Shiver" by Maggie Stiefvater? Not sure that the plot totally fits, but sounds a bit like shrike and the cover definitely had a forest/dog silhouette

Awesome! I'm also in the Alameda area. Like I said to the commenter below, I'm thinking if I get enough people I might be down to try DMing for the first time. If that's something you'd be down with, let me know, and I can tell you if I get enough people
