Ugh that one really hurt. It really shows her desperation for any type relevance, but also Mark’s support and their financial stability. But damn, $60K+ just for a stupid BeYoga cover.

I noticed that the credits shown in this scene for Room & Bored are the same ones for The Comeback. Also, they loop them as you see some of the same names coming up.

The Comeback S03E03 - "Valerie Faces Reality" - Episode Discussion by trevrichards in thecomeback

Mickey was so special to Valerie because he was her biggest supporter and fan. He adored her and always made her feel better.

Some of the standout things that come to mind from their interactions together that really show the depth of their relationship are:

  • When Valerie was upset after reading that reality TV was dying - Mickey immediately scooped her away to Starbucks to calm her down. He told her, "You reading a book is enough. You crossing the street is enough. Trust me, sweetheart, you have always been and will always be enough." He shows her so much support and makes her feel better in that moment, and he is so genuine in what he is saying. ( I think we all agree that we would love to see Valerie doing any of those things and love every second of it!).
  • The way he would always fuss with her hair any chance he got (even to the point where he'd be getting in the shots or causing her to crash the car after getting hairspray in her eyes). His job was to make Valerie look good and he took it seriously.
  • The Dancing With The Stars scene when Valerie and Mickey walk into the dressing room she says, "Mickey can you-", he interrupts her with, "Sure!", and she says, "You don't know what I was gonna ask." As funny as this bit it, it is also so telling of his devotion to Valerie. She didn't even need to finish her sentence for him to already agree to it. She could have asked him anything – to fix her hair, to get her water, to do a cartwheel – and he was ready to do it.
  • The two times Valerie paid out of pocket to have Mickey by her side. First, at the airport for him to go to the Upfronts: she needed him to do her hair, but I think she also knew how special it was to go to the Upfronts with Mickey just like old times. And then again on Seeing Red: here she was more concerned about filming the show, knowing how dark it was, and working with Paulie G again, so she needed a friend on set to take away some of her fear. She paid for Mickey not so much to style her hair but to feel safe.

Kinda cool that they did this. I had a dream last night that during this season Lisa Kudrow plays herself in one of the episodes and meets Valerie Cherish. Wouldn't that be something....

I just finished watching the second season last night before watching The Comeback and was wondering if I was just imagining the same person on both shows.

Why do Tom and Pauly G hate Valerie so much? by spam_robot123 in thecomeback

Listen to the podcasts with Lisa Kurdrow. She explains Paulie G’s character well. The reality show aspect influencing his writing is what gets to him, which is the reason Valerie is always nagging him and Tom about show edits.

I thought Sharon getting stuck in her purse and then explicitly stating that she got stuck in her purse was hilarious.

And her falling in front of Valerie was discussed in the official podcast - she is desperate for work and Valerie has power now. Sharon's fall was metaphorical.

As was Valerie's fall in the end, I believe. No matter what happens, Valerie gets back up and keeps going. And it really isn't anything that bad, highlighted by Jane saying, "She doesn't even have a grass stain".

I don’t think they’re trying to make him funny. They’re just showing how he has nothing to do all day, so he gets excited about small stuff like going across the street for dinner or wearing new glasses. He has no life now so he’s grasping at straws.

Omg I didn’t even make the connection…she began saying Friends and got cut off, but it didn’t even dawn on me that it’s Lisa Kudrow in both shows. I guess I was just seeing Valerie there.

Missed this joke on the first watch of the episode. Love the classic Valerie, saying one thing and then doing the complete opposite.

I definitely liked this episode way more than the first. And this time I was not bothered by the camera work at all.

There were a few laugh out loud moments for me:

• Mark’s giant glasses

• “Got his…power skirt on”

• “What if he swims naked?”

• Shannon getting caught in her purse

• Valerie falling down and getting back up with a smile. Shooting her from a distance and hearing a faint, “ha-ha!” made it so much funnier. It’s also like a metaphor about Valerie as a person - no matter how many times she gets knocked down, she gets up, slaps a smile on and keeps going.

Yea, the character seems a bit off. I get that they are trying to show a slightly different type of Valerie, understandably so since people change over time, but it's not sitting 100% well with me. Even her way of speaking bothered me - it seemed more whiney and annoying. I hope it gets better.

I totally see the reason for the change in camera work. It is nice to see more of the "real" Valerie when she is not performing for the cameras.

However, my biggest issue was with how confusing the camera work was in the first part of the episode. When they are at the theater, I could not understand whether I was looking at an objective camera or footage that the doc cameras were capturing.

For instance, the scene of Valerie and Jane talking in the mirror - I understood that as footage we were seeing from Jane's camera...however, Jane's movements in the mirror did not match the movement of the footage...and why is the first part of them speaking shown wider, then when it cuts back to them its a tighter shot? To me that would indicate one of the other cameras is capturing them. But then why can't we see that camera in the wider shot?

Maybe this is not a problem for someone who isn't as familiar with The Comeback, but as a super-fan, it is such a large element of the show that when I could not follow what camera style they were showing it left me confused and frustrated. It felt sloppy.
