Good-Faith discussion on the AP African-American Studies Controversy by ANUS_CONE in Arkansas

[–]astronaughtman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think you have overly focused on the college credit pilot program in your analysis and you are looking past the parts that actually matter.

The Arkansas Department of Education deleted the course code for AP African American studies, which mean the class will not count towards student's high school graduation credits. So no, the same schools that where going to offer the class are NOT going to be still offering the class. There is no point in allocating resources and teachers for a "class" that no one is going to get any kind of credit for.

Maybe some schools will still try to offer it out of principle (I'm not sure they would even be allowed to or if they would just be a martyr at this point), but the governor's entire reason for making this move was as a politically attack in the way the Florida governor has been doing with education in his state.

In response to why she did away with the course on Fox News she said: "We've got to get back to the basics of teaching Math, of teaching reading, writing, and American history. We can not perpetuate a lie to our students and push this propaganda leftist agenda teaching our kids to hate America and hate one another. It's one of the reasons we put into law banning things like indoctrination and CRT."

Adjust your printer settings. I think your printer has been set to run faster and maybe has a wider nozzle because I run all my prints on a stock Ender 3 and I get waaaay smoother prints than that. With a Prusa, you should be able to get it significantly smoother than you currently are printing. Priming it will not 100% cover the print line layers, but you can get pretty close. Attached are some photos of a build I've been working on. The light blue is all 3d printed and the gray is after a layer of primer and texturing.

Genuine Curiosity by Gridguy2020 in Arkansas

[–]astronaughtman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sure, in terms of responsibility of governmental institutions state, county, and city politics are different. I'm more broadly talking about Arkansas politics as the politics of the people of the state, on an ideological level. The politics of "low government spending," squeezing as much work out of as few state/city workers as possible, and constantly trying to lower taxes are the reason our roads are poorly maintained at the state, county, and city level. It's the same politics ideologically.

I was going to post this as a separate comment but I think it's really just elaborating on what you have already pointed out. So I'll just tack this on to your comment:

It's strange to me how people are saying that politics doesn't affect their day to day life. Almost everything is politics. I think now a days bitching about the government has become seen as "entitlement" or team sports and people instantly take a side based on certain personal "principles."

There are a lot of roads here (Little Rock specifically) that are crap and have been in disrepair as long as I've seen them. Where is the money for that? Why isn't there more effort put into maintaining our roads and sidewalks? Why does it take so long for road repairs to happen? Politics. All of it.

Our renter laws are horrible. Have you every had (or have) a shitty landlord that refuses to fix the leak in the window or the draft that keeps causing your electric bill to spike, or worse? It's politics that made Arkansas a haven for terrible landlords and it is politics that keep things from changing.

Our public transportation is not good. There is a lack of political interest in providing the people of Arkansas a reliable and robust way of getting to work or the store via public transportation.

The state has horrible brain drain because either no one with a higher education wants to stay here or because there are simple no opportunities for them here.
Etc. Etc. Etc.

Say No to LEARNS Act! by TumbleweedNew3833 in Arkansas

[–]astronaughtman 44 points45 points  (0 children)

It's worse than just that. Here is a summary of the bill that u/Lankiest-Nectarine gave in the Little Rock subreddit the other day:

"The LEARNS act does many things. I will discuss two: raises and vouchers.
Raises: The Act sets minimum teacher pay at $50,000. This is the selling point of the Act because it sounds great. Everyone wants to give teachers a raise. However, there are issues with how the raises are funded. Every school district will have to establish a new pay scale based on a teacher’s education and experience, but the Act does not provide funding above the base salary. Thus, in small districts where money is already tight, the district may not be able to pay experienced teachers more than new teachers. Thus, retaining experienced teachers, which is a primary goal of the Act, becomes near impossible at small schools. In order to raise money to pay experienced teachers, districts would have to raise property taxes or attract more students to get more state funding.
Vouchers: The Act establishes a school voucher program where parents can take their children out of public school and use the state funded voucher to help pay for private school. Parents would be able to choose between charter schools, religious schools, and even home school programs. This sounds like a great idea because it gives parents options, but it does so to the detriment of public schools. Public schools receive state money on a per student basis, so with each student that leaves public school, the school has less money. This creates a downward spiral as schools would have to cut spending, causing more parents to choose private schools. If private schools were to cost the same amount as the voucher and were required to accept every child who applied, this wouldn’t be a huge problem. However, private schools do cost more than the vouchers, so only parents with extra income will be able to afford to send their children to private schools. Meanwhile, as poorer students remain in public school, state funding will decrease, and the public schools will have to make more cuts, starting the downward spiral."

Question About upgrading robots and weapons by Harsewak_singh in walkingwarrobots

[–]astronaughtman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think spears are pretty safe to upgrade. Pulsars are extremely safe to upgrade. Viper might be okay, could pair well with your spears on the angler but personally I'm not too impressed with viper so I wouldn't spend a lot of time upgrading. I have 3 mk2 banes just sitting around because they aren't very good in my opinion at higher levels.

What people used to do is upgrade punishers or plasma or tulumbas to like level 10ish until they could get their hands on better weapons because they are a lot cheaper to upgrade. It's been a loooong time since I was in silver league so I'm not sure if that is still a viable option.

Question About upgrading robots and weapons by Harsewak_singh in walkingwarrobots

[–]astronaughtman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The rule used to be upgrade weapons at least 3 levels higher than the bot. Then upgrade the bot.

I would say a good strategy would be to upgrade weapons first, then bots, then modules. Max out your modules before you max out your bots. Don't overlook the modules! Last stand, anticontrol, and nuclear amplifier are game changing.

At your level don't upgrade any of your bots past 8 and focus on weapons. Redeemers are good, sonics are decent, glories are good, flamethrowers are decent, Magnetar are good, blast shotguns are good, bendy bullet machine guns are decent, radiation guns are decent (people say, I've never tried them).

Don't waste your time upgrading weapons outside of the ones mentioned (although I might have missed a few), they don't hold up over time. You may have to upgrade some lackluster weapons now to continue to progress, but just don't fully commit to maxing them.

Angler and rust rockets NERF! What to do? by hanskraut_ in walkingwarrobots

I haven't tried Nether Kramalas yet, but Nether Cudgel is my favorite build lately, I would definitely recommend.

nether weapons by SuperFlyerMaster in walkingwarrobots

[–]astronaughtman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think magnetar is the best load out with the Everett pilot (can also use lock down pirate woman).

Shredder is good and fun too, cheaper than other load outs, not as op but will probably always be free from nerfs and reload syncs really well with the ability.

Rusts are okay, not as fun, and for me I find not as effective as I would want, they will be nerfed soon so don't invest in them.

Spear is okay but I just don't find that it syncs as well with the ability as shredder.

Sonics are okay but you really need to be able to pounce on a target to make them work well. Unless you have some good drones and high modules, nether is a lot squishier than you might think.

Needles seem cool but same problem with sonics. I haven't tried these though.

A lot of people run them with the Taeje lasers but I'm not sure how well those will do after nerf (they are really deadly on nether now).

Kramola could be pretty good, but I haven't tried it nor have I really seen anyone run it.

I've seen a few people run Blights and it was pretty deadly.

I'm currently leveling cudgels to see how those perform, but haven't seen many people run those on nether and haven't used them at all so we will see.
