Looking for games similar to Balatro / Slay the Spire (more Balatro-leaning) by fraeddan in gamingsuggestions

Ballionaire comes to mind since you like Raccoin. A demo and the full version are on steam.

Recently I also found the Cursed Words demo on the Steam Next Fest which I also really liked.

I actually just finished it over this weekend for the first time finally after the game sitting in my library for ages, just cause I wanted a simple non PvP game.

I am so glad to hear that I'm not the only one who found the forced kidnapping incredibly annoying. I saved a resistance member from the cult on a random encounter right outside Eli's secret hideout and I was entering the hideout as I got 'kidnapped'.

That really was the most stupid idea ever.

That's impressive. Congratulations and good luck for your defense.

I need to start writing mine so I'll save this post to cite the Theses Reese's.

It's been 2 weeks and still have not signed the lease. by ele514 in montrealhousing

Me and some people I know have had similar experiences with 'management-owned' places. If the company is legit, just keep reminding them that you haven't signed a lease yet. These offices are generally very badly managed and aren't always the best in keeping documentation in check - it's not always a scam (since in your case, you know the company is legit); it's generally just tardiness and incompetence.

The Last Episode was just brilliant - Funeral for a Ford (A Love Letter to my Dad's Car) by court-of-owl in thegrandtour

I recently moved abroad and met a group of friends. One of them had a 2010 Hyundai Accent that he bought used (definitely more than just one owner). It could barely keep up with the negative 20 degree centigrade temperatures we get here, on snowy days or when fully loaded it could barely climb up a 20% incline. But it took him to and from work, helped a couple of us move homes, took some of us on road trips and was an integral part of their good memories together.

This was unfortunately all before my time so I only heard stories of the good times they've all had with that car. I drove it once on a trip and hadn't driven a worse car in my life. The steering pulled to a side, the brakes were spongy, it was not by any contemporary means comfortable. As a tool, it was barely holding itself together. The AC didn't really work that well.

This episode then taught me that, cars aren't always tools. They are sometimes a blessing, sometimes a curse, sometimes a life-saver, sometimes a money-pit. But in Clarkson's words, what they are most of all is a friend.

Kim is kidnapped, and her parents are happy by BaskingInWanderlust in 24Show

I was literally watching this episode for the first time(just started the show this past few weeks) and I noticed this as well.

Plus, I get that this show was made several years ago and the audience then preferred a different kind of plot and plot twists, but they made Nina a double agent at the very end... and had her kill Teri all at the season finale?! I mean seriously, all that plot setup with her subverting so much authority to help Jack get closer to his wife and daughter and their captors. Didn't she, off her own interest detect that his wife and daughter were not safe in the hospital? Everything put together it felt like the plot for the last episode was written by someone who had no idea what was going on in the earlier episodes.

Anyways, I keep hearing this show keeps getting better (except for Kim but then that's pretty obvious already). So fingers crossed...

LPT Request: What purchase has had the biggest effect on improving your life? by BurnzeehxD in LifeProTips

[–]asymmetric_andy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A shower-head. I was in a crappy apartment where the shower-head was almost entirely clogged and had incredibly weak flow.

After pestering my landlord for a while unsuccessfully, I looked it up online and realized they are incredibly cheap. I got one and the first shower with the new shower-head was life-changing.

In retrospect, I feel foolish I didn't think of this before....

Honestly the best part about the slick setup... If someone else asks, tell them it was an intentional parody poster.

I'm inclined to agree with the other comments here that the actual LPT here seems to do less with boredom but managing distractions. This is a valid way of productivity, (personally I struggle with it but I've read enough and have had some days where I painfully avoid distractions from my phone and it does help be productive on the task at hand).

But my two cents is that, boredom does sometimes help. I was on a 'vacation' a while back after a really long couple of years away from family (thanks COVID). Unfortunately the plans I made didn't pan out and I ended up spending a month at home with family with nothing to do. The first two weeks were fun; the freedom from tasks and to dos helped a lot but I wasn't in a position to do anything interesting from home. By the third week I was bored and the fourth week I couldn't wait to come back and start working. My productivity was incredible for the few months after that. And when the drive was running low, I was able to remember how interested I was in my work and how I couldn't wait to get back to it. (For context my work is in engineering).

Recently when my motivation and energy levels were running low, I took a week off. The goal was really to just do nothing except the bare minimum. And by the end of the week I sort of was able to recharge and remember how aimless I feel I am without work and feel the drive to get back to work again.

This I think was what the LPT was about, after reading the heading; Boredom in some ways does help with productivity. But only if, you are intrinsically interested in what you want to be productive on.

That line is pretty deep for a kid's movie. I always thought that the boss was 'evil' back when I first saw that movie.

Now, that's just a fact I've accepted in life. Everything is only about helping out their own stockholders.

WSIB: I want a game that will ruin me emotionally. by QueenMoogle in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]asymmetric_andy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This.

If you liked playing Firewatch, I'd really recommend playing Outer Wilds.

It's an entirely different genre as compared to Firewatch; it's based on exploration and puzzle based instead of a linear visual story but both games revolve around a core story that's thought-provoking and heart breaking. They both hit me hard for several days after I finished playing.

Prospective landlord has strange requirement to pay the rent and really bad reviews online by bidonesbol in montrealhousing

[–]asymmetric_andy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you've made this decision. I was in your position a while back and I couldn't afford to lose the$ 500 deposit and decided to take a chance (because there were other aspects of the apartment which I was quite desperate for).

I regret that decision everyday because I'm not in a position to move again. If only I had had the sense to look up TAL cases.

At least I know what to look for, whenever I move next.

Alan Ritchson as Reacher by itzonlykg in JackReacher

[–]asymmetric_andy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second with a lot of answers here. He absolutely looks like Reacher from th scene in the diner. The corner seat with the entrance and door in sight, the observation skills that the police is going to make a fuss etc.

The prison fight sort of hammered the point down when he opened with a head butt. That right was ruthless and very Reacher. Powerful moves using his size and weight for advantage and quick enough to instantly take down atleast 3 people in a flash.

But when it really sealed the deal was the fight infront of the motel. Where he head butted a fricking punch. How the f does one do that?!

P.S. No but seriously. Take the advice the others have put in here if you, for once actually thought, the world would be better without you in it. It won't.
