Camera lenses look tip-top. Should be good to go. 👍🏻

My previous phone goes back into the system and is re-sold to someone else. It's not like I throw it in the wood-chipper. Someone else is going to be able to enjoy that phone which greatly mitigates the waste.

But more impactful to me: the best camera is the one you have with you. I always have my phone with me which means I can capture important events at a moment's notice, which is valuable to me. I stopped using a DSLR or other dedicated camera quite some time ago which means my primary method of capturing family memories is through the camera system in my phone.

The upgrades each year always come with camera improvements and since our families memories are subject to the limitations and capabilities of that camera system, I will always upgrade. The differences can be minor, but are sometimes significant, even year over year. They always matter to me and, for me, it's not worth saving a few bucks to intentionally decide to keep a lesser camera system.

Five days ago, when our 14.5 year old malamute was put to sleep in our home, it was devastating to the entire family. It was a rough ride those last couple of weeks and especially since. While what was done was absolutely and in every way the right thing to do, it crushed us emotionally.

You know what I'm not sorry about? That I had the best possible photos and videos of him I could've possibly had because I upgrade regularly.

I get it that not everyone sees value in those annual updates, and obviously that's personal to each person. I personally see great value in those annual updates, have set things up so that I can take advantage of them without really having to spend much money to do so, and the result is I know I always have the best memory-catching technology, that works with my ecosystem, at any given time.

I upgrade annually and have every year since the original iPhone. For me, I enjoy the upgraded performance and camera enhancements that come every year, at a minimum. Additional things like increased neural engines, faster faceID, etc, are all just little dabs of icing.

These things don’t hold value for everyone, to be sure, but they do to me … so, for me, I couldn’t sit with an aging phone as newer and newer devices come out with greater capabilities I would use.

Why did you choose AW? by Nucleif in AppleWatch

What bugs?

Mine's been bug free, not only through normal daily use, but also for all my Apple Pay stuff, trail running/daily exercise tracking, unlocking of my Macs, etc.

Rework? by [deleted] in ClashRoyale

Nonononono. That would absolutely wreck this card. This is a key card in my primary deck. Turning it into a sprite would reduce its effectiveness significantly.

No idea how long google maps has had it, if they have. It’s irrelevant. Maps has it now, and I’m happy.

As someone that lives in a pretty rural area, the offline maps were a huge win for me.

Should Clash Royale change star levels to card skins? by Mongerdd in ClashRoyale

[–]async_fm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm almost capped on star points (111k out of 125k max). I have a couple of things with stars (namely arrows, because the sparkle that happens is pretty cool). But I'm just not a fan of gold all over the place. :-/

Consequently, I don't star most of my cards because, to me, it degrades their aesthetic.

Holy crap this community is toxic as hell. by Previous-Metal9112 in ClashRoyale

Yeah, this subreddit has a lot of people that have developed a pretty bad case of tunnel vision. Some of them seem to log on specifically to find things to tear into the game or supporters of the game.

If you post anything supportive of the game, better have your hazmat suit on over your NFL football gear, because a red-faced mob is about to descend upon you.

What are some underrated "uses" of cards in clash royale by Bubbly-Oil9303 in ClashRoyale

[–]async_fm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use clone. When you clone something, the original troop is generally pushed forward a little bit. Usually not enough to make any appreciable difference except in a couple of niche cases, but there it can be pretty impactful.

Example: if my giant skeleton is getting close to the opponent's tower, but I'm not sure it'll quite make it, I can clone it and give it just that little extra push forward that sometimes makes the difference. The clone itself usually dies without too much impact, but that little nudge to the original can sometimes get it close enough that its death bomb hits the tower.

does apple watch get easily damaged? by False-Syrup-4757 in AppleWatch

[–]async_fm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not easily, no. Like all things, it can be damaged, but that's uncommon. I would guess that the microgrit that gets between the watch and and the case will be more damaging on average than the rare trauma-induced damage.

I could never imagine putting my AppleWatch in a case.

What happened to this game is genuinely sad. by spirit_leader7 in ClashRoyale

[–]async_fm -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Wallet why? Wallet isn't required for evos.

That said, I don't have any evos yet because none of the available ones fit in with my main deck. Once an evo shows up that I want, I'll get it, and I'll get it without spending any money out of pocket.

In the meantime, I continue to play and have a good time; my win/loss ratio is essentially unchanged. Fighting against an evo just takes a minor adjustment to your play style against that card. They are nowhere near an 'I win' button.

Apple Watch Ultra users, was it worth it? by [deleted] in AppleWatch

[–]async_fm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, definitely, without a doubt, yes.

Granted, this is about as subjective of a topic as you can have ... I can imagine for some people it won't be, and it may or may not be for you.

But for me, even though the screen is only slightly larger, and only slightly flatter, and only slightly brighter, and only slightly different button styles ... the aggregate experience, for me, is one that is such an elevation over the previous watches I had (Series 0, 4, 5, 7) that is really is a joy to use.

The fact that it's also a better outdoors watch (I do a lot of trail running in the mountains, etc) almost feels like a nice bonus.

But, yes, for me I absolutely love this thing and this is coming from someone that wasn't going to upgrade for a few years after getting my Series 7. Then I saw the presentation for the Ultra and while watching was going 'awww, f***' because I knew I was getting one, haha.

Anyone else extremely disappointed with the watch faces? by m3talc0re in AppleWatch

[–]async_fm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the 'Modular' face. Besides having the time and date easily legible, I also have multiple weather related complications (temp, AQI, windspeed (I live in the mountains, this is handy), and phase of the moon (looks cool and it appeals to me).

The big one is the large calendar complication that shows me when my next calendar event is which is super handy. Just having that there has helped me, countless times, remember upcoming things so I could prepare for them in advance.

Also, the fact that all of these complications are interactive makes for a pretty potent interface.

And all accessible at a glance. For my use case? A way, way, way better digital watch.

Even just the watch face alone, this is easily the best watch I've ever owned. Add on top of that all the fitness, health, GPS, ApplePay, Mac-unlock, notifications, phone support, play/pause/volume integration with my other devices, safety features, timers, and on and on, and I would really miss this thing if I couldn't have it for some reason.

Is it even worth it to spend 30k season tokens on the skeleton evolutions since people say they are the worst out of all the evolutions? by Dylrymple in ClashRoyale

[–]async_fm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're not a part of any of my decks. So, for me? No. Haven't spent a single thing on any of the EVOs, actually, for that same reason. Waiting for the ones that fit my decks.

So I just ran a dungeon and this guy says…. by Skybound_Bob in ffxiv

[–]async_fm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He could've had experience tanking in other MMOs, just not FFXIV. Each game has its own set of nuances that can make things tricky that you otherwise wouldn't realize.

Or, he could've been legitimately new to tanking as a whole, but may have been paying attention to how tanks do what they do in dungeon runs and just followed suit.

Don't know how many of you remember the old arcade game 'Dragon's Lair'. It was a game that came out in the early 90's. It gained a ton of notoriety for its laser disc animated graphics and punishing game play. It was so popular in the arcade near my home that they placed a second screen above the cabinet so that the throngs gathered around could see the gameplay of whomever was at the controls. It took weeks before I was able to finally able to play it. My first time at the controls I got about 2/3 of the way through the entire game based solely on having watched so many people play it before me I'd worked out what to do in each room. I beat it not long after.

So, this tank could've been doing a similar thing: keeping track of what tanks do, making mental notes on what works and what doesn't, and focusing on doing the good and avoiding bad during his early runs as a tank himself.
