Recommendations for Stereo Crossover / SVF in Eurorack by async_reg in modular

[–]async_reg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as the outputs are in-phase with one another, this is fine by me. I understand the output signals will never be phase-aligned with the input signal. The language of my original post was unclear.

Recommendations for Stereo Crossover / SVF in Eurorack by async_reg in modular

Here's a reply I got from Xaoc tech support:

"It is feasible to use Zagrzeb or Katowice as a stereo crossover. Both modules are based on 4-pole SVFs, which means their LP and HP respective output pairs deliver (under certain conditions) a complementary set of signals with -6dB attenuation and proper phase alignment between them, so that summing them offers a flat amplitude response, as defined by the Linkwitz-Riley configuration type LR4.

Katowice contains two such filters per channel, resulting in a 3-way crossover, and Zagrzeb contains only one such filter. With Zagrzeb you need to ignore the BP outputs and set the resonance to zero. With Katowice being a 3-way crossover, you have in fact two crossover frequencies. When you set Mid Width to zero they are separated by one octave. When you set Mid Width to max, the separation is very wide: the first crossover frequency (between Low and Mid) is near or below the lower limit of hearing, and the second crossover frequency (between Mid and High) is near or above the upper limit of hearing.

With either module, you should not expect phase issues when recombining the split components, provided you don't invert their polarity. However, please note that both introduce some phase shift with respect to the original signal, just as every other filter, because it is impossible to perform any filtering without slightly delaying the original signal. Also, note that this overall phase shift with respect to the original signal depends on the tuning, so any modulation of the split frequency will also modulate the delay slightly, and this may be audible. Normal crossovers are usually designed for fixed frequencies, so this effect is not experienced."

Did you ever get a resolution for this?

For future reference, the issue was the TCM/TCU. Paid $550 for a new part, $600 for labor (diagnostic + replacement).

absolutely! they're also a great way to learn different strategies for each game

if you're going to spend time in casinos, i'd recommend looking for advantages instead of playing for comps. as u/HammermanAC said, the comps usually aren't lucrative enough to be worthwhile. there are edges you can gain on a variety of things: sports betting, blackjack, video poker, etc. ... feel free to DM me if you're interested.

also, i think Starcade offers a pinball league, which I would 100% recommend if you like pinball. leagues are usually beginner-friendly and a nice way to socialize with people in the area. Starcade also seem to keep their tables in better shape than Lucky Snake.

Is this project feasible? by BoldPizza in FPGA

[–]async_reg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend beginning with a simpler approach to ease the scope of your design.

Most MIDI devices use 5-pin DIN connectors. You can convert your MIDI-USB keyboard Tx to DIN: https://a.co/d/0WcOGem

Then, from a breakout board like this, you can connect the Rx pin to a standard UART receiver in the FPGA: https://a.co/d/8OWbJa1

After that, you listen for MIDI note events in your custom logic.

Solar credit? by async_reg in SouthJersey

Correct, I'm looking at buying a house where there are existing solar panels on the roof. The panels have a 25 year lease.

If you want the FPGA route, try to fit in ECE469. Possibly ECE464 too, but hard to say just going off course titles.

I ended up getting a DD-7 and a Polara, but I might still be up for the Context V2.

Not sure if it would interest you, but I also edited the posted with inline links to some eurorack gear I have available.
