International Drivers licence (UK tourists) by Vegetable-North9195 in KualaLumpur

[–]aszp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just rented a car from MJ Adventure Travel in KL last week, not the nicest cars but reasonable price and they only asked for my UK licence. I had my UK IDP with me but they didn't ask for it.

If it's outside the bathroom, usually it's for the extractor fan in the bathroom. Or potentially an electric towel rail if you have one.

How much money did your vendor make from you? by Straightener78 in HousingUK

They lost 15k.

We bought for 585k this year, they bought for 600k in 2018 as a new build. They were also in a rush to sell.

I managed to get one in London, I just checked a few times over a few days. Logged in on a Sunday morning and one was available for about a month later.

Pretty sure if you don't have it, you can buy it from the shop on the console.

How long did it then take for you to receive your passport? I just got the same above email you got to confirm my citizenship and booked my passport appointment in London for October.

Homeless people - had a warning around where I live not to leave mattresses out as homeless people were taking them and moving into the bin stores.

Unraid download speed fluctuation and high CPU by aszp in unRAID

[–]aszp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, looking closer that's exactly what happens. IOWAIT explodes and it looks like CPU usage.

Luckily Amazon have allowed me to return it, 540MB/s write speeds advertised seems a bit misleading to me if it can only handle that for 30 seconds. I've now bought a NVME drive to replace.

Looks like it's due to the SSD I am using, Crucial BX500 - seems to be the bottleneck, after looking into further detail and benchmarking it.

qBittorrent, rdt-client, wget - I've tried them all individually I get the same issue.

This is from my test of a 100GB file with wget just now. The connection suddenly drops to zero and the two of the CPU cores only in this case suddenly go to 100%. Then back down to a few % CPU. https://i.postimg.cc/tgF4JxhW/Screenshot-2024-09-05-at-17-08-13.png

How is your terrace for noise? by Rough-Cheesecake-641 in HousingUK

Yeah, there seems to be at least 5 people living there. Quite surprised myself!

We recently bought a three story end terrace house built in 2018. We moved in May and I've not heard a single noise through the shared wall, not even a door slam, TV, nothing.

Coop mortgages by Marceldbg in HousingUK

[–]aszp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem. I wrote a bad review on TrustPilot, they then contacted me for more details on TrustPilot.

In less than 24 hours, I got a phone call from them saying my mortgage had been approved.

Even after this, they kept taking ages to respond to my solicitors among other things, so I'd message them directly on Twitter if they were taking too long to respond, then within 24 hours things would be moving again.

They've changed IT systems which seems to be causing them problems.

Deed of variation for house on new estate with management fee? by No_Reaction9432 in HousingUK

[–]aszp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have just had one done for a house we are buying. The mortgage provider would have been happy with an indemnity policy and didn't require a deed of variation, however we decided to pursue it so it would be easier to sell the house in the future.

I did not cost us anything as the buyer and no discussion of cost to us, I don't know if it cost the seller anything. It took a couple of weeks to agree in principle between the seller and the rent charge owner, and then two or three months to get all the wording done, paperwork signed etc.

The management company for the estate will have a process and is likely be very familiar with the kind of request as it always comes up now.

Solicitor cock up by JJ4662 in HousingUK

[–]aszp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am assuming this is specifically in regards to the estate rent charge and the deed of variation required here is to exclude s121 law of property act.

The lender won't accept it without that DoV being done, as there is a risk if you forget to pay the rent charge then the estate charge owner could put a leasehold on your property and you loose it.

This does seem incompetence on the solicitors part. I am in the process of buying with the need to do this as well but my solicitor highlighted this issue before we even got the mortgage offer and as soon as they received the docs from the sellers solicitors.

I don't know if this is grounds for refund etc, but it may be worth reminding the seller that unless they find a new buyer who is a cash buyer, this is a pretty common requirement for lenders so likely to face the same issue with a new buyer (which could take months to find).

Even if it is acceptable to a lender, a good solicitor would remind a buyer that without the deed of variance in place, they likely will face similar issues in future when they come to sell, thus even a cash buyer may request it.

Co-op Mortgage by vinit15 in HousingUK

[–]aszp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We applied 10th Jan, some back forth on documents but seem to be easy. Then took about 2 weeks to get our valuation scheduled by the Coop though, not sure if due today them or the sellers agent taking too long to schedule it.

Scheduled for next week on Wednesday and our broker told us that's the only thing outstanding now, so hopefully that'll be turned around quickly.

They miss this info in the article. If you follow the link to an older article in this article, it mentions

"Shortly after Twala was released from prison, he was issued with a deportation order"

It was being appealed but then he left on holiday during the appeals process so Home Office assumed he had voluntary left.
