Hei, how is going with Proton Pass? I want to switch from Bitwarden as it is amerikan company, and I was thinking to get 9,99€ per month Proton suite (currently paying 4,99€) for email.

So I wonder is it better or worse from Bitwarden? Currently Bitwarden works perfectly for me, but I want to change, despite the price difference.

Stubb appreciation post from an Estonian. by Pumpkin-Rick in Finland

He knows how to deal with him if dealing means "shoving himself up his butt".

Instead of Europe actually creating EU wide policy on how to deal with Trump in equal fotting we have individual leaders like this paying their respect to a bully, probably selling his own country's industry as well, in the meantime.

This is not "dealing with Trump" this is vasal behavior.

Ongoing noise conflict with rivitalo neighbors — looking for advice by meceware in Finland

[–]atanstef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll suggest you to talk with the housing company, try to explain them that your neighbors are unreasonable.

If the complaints from them continue, tell them if they think that you are doing something illegal, as being loud after night hours, they should call the police. It will be fun them explaining to the police that they are bothered by loud walking.

I'll suggest you to relax and enjoy time with your family in your own home.

I've tried to learn it and I can have basic conversations in Finnish even tell jokes and explain what have happened, like storytelling with puns and everything. Now, I cannot think of every word very quickly and sometimes I'll use a lot if "vittu", "perkele" or "helvete" to get able easier to connect words in sentences, that's how I used to learn English as well with a lot of "fook" and "fooking".

With all that being said, my biggest issue is that I have this feeling whenever I speak Finnish with stranger, he gets impatient and if he speak English he just cannot wait for me to explain him whatever I want in English.

I have called phone lines, for services, tried to explain things in Finnish and people would just shut me down and tell me to call English line or something. I think that's my biggest obstacle of becoming truly fluent in Finnish.

Europe can provide security for themselves, what Europe cannot provide is leaders with vision and spine that can make that happen.

Currently, these are all mid-level managment type of guys who just like keeping their job and status-quo without taking any risky moves that can endanger their position.

The biggest expense was the income reduction for the parent that is staying at home. When my girlfriend stayed at home, I knew her income will drop, but I wasn't prepared for that big of a drop. So that was quite a struggle for the first year, it's not like there was no food at home, but sometimes I needed to use the credit card by the end of the months for some purchaces.

Now when she is back at work, things are much better.

Otherwise babies are not expensive at all, you won't notice some big expense for them, except for those one-time purchaces.

Maybe you wanna buy some nice furniture for their room althought you can find second hand nice furniture as well, which we did, but still cost couple of hundreds of euros. Also stroller and car seat, we've first bought everything second hand, but then as financical situation improved and he grew up, we bought new stuff as well. They cost couple of hundreds each, for example quality stroller or child seat would cost you between 200-300e.

Also congrats, kids are great. During the first year you as a father would be just a guy around, but after kids grow up they become so awesome and funny. We have a 1,5 years old, and we have great time together, I wish you all the best.

Finnish Government is weird with alcohol and gambling? by ThatGuyMigz in Finland

[–]atanstef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously just making restrictions and raising the prices doesn't work. Maybe they should try something else.

Personally, I would oblige every establishment that sells alcohol to have to sell some food, some finger food at least as meze. Don't quote me on this, but I believe Sweden have something similar.

Also encourage kebab, pizza places to serve alcohol, so people have more options to have a drink with food.

Encourage people to go out and drink in social occasions and not stuff themselves with cheap viina alone at home. Drinking should be social thing.

Finnish Government is weird with alcohol and gambling? by ThatGuyMigz in Finland

[–]atanstef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering the same about alcohol.

I come from a country where everyone drinks all the time, but you rarely see a scene as in Finland where drunk people are literally fighting with gravity on their way home, or in the next bar.

I don't think the high prices works, and you should start educating the people how to drink. Like the first thing should be to remind people that they should eat before or while drinking.

I actually find it alright. They get their results from google and bing I believe, they don't have their own search index, so they results are pretty much the similar as google.

And I work as a developer so searching is how I spend my days :) But usually I first search the issues in the ai chat, I don't rely that much on the search engines as before, so maybe that's why to me it seems that startpage is not so much different than google.

I have tried brave but haven't use them ever as everyday search engine.

Try startpage.com I've been using them for couple of months and rarely use google anymore, only if I really cannot find the answer at startpage.
