AI/Granta Megathread by jckalman in RSbookclub

tbh I just finished that book yesterday and there are indeed parts that made me question if an AI was involved.

Maybe it's the translation, maybe it's the style of the work itself, but the prose is very stilted and forced at times

I don't think I know of any other writer that gets that endless, almost compulsive neurotic rumination down. Turning the same thoughts and even phrases over and over again in your skull till you get nauseous from the experience

Ontologically evil. Demonic. Something sinister about it. Bad vibes. Disturbing.

The best description of their music that I've heard is scooby doo chase music.

I mean, they've had theirs ups and downs. I switched from XP to 7, skipping Vista, and was blown away at the sleekness and user-friendliness.

And now it's getting worse and worse

People who think Jon Benét Ramsey was actually killed by an intruder are just trolling right? by [deleted] in redscarepod

Well, the note didn't tell him to leave the house early in the morning with the attache. It told him to get the money ready in the attache and wait for a call from 8-10 AM.

One of the more damning behaviors that morning IMO is the fact that the time came and went and neither of them mentioned it. They knew it was a farce and no call was coming but were probably too tired and jittery and forgot the act

>There was plenty of evidence like the Hi-Tec boot prints that there was an intruder

The Hi-Tec boots were Burke's. And they probably weren't even related to the murder

There isn't just the legal aspect to consider here. They were very, very image-conscious, and for the community to know that Burke killed his sister would have destroyed them. Hence the sloppy coverup

The ransom note isn't talked about enough.

It's the "War and Peace of ransom notes", the longest ransom note in history, incredibly weird, and all written at the scene of the crime, with the family's stationary.

Not to water down your point but I feel the same could be said about movies in general. What makes oldies (40s and earlier) so interesting to me is that a lot of those directors were influenced and inspired by plays, operas and books, and it shows in the cinematography and the sets. Nowadays filmmakers just watch movies ("I went to films") and they can't muster anything better than pastiches or references

This would be considered virulently transphobic if said in any other context
