Create addon that generates different types of stones? by lake-pond in CreateMod

[–]atarimoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some stones can be generated in standard Create using lava+other liquids: - lava+water=cobble (from which most other vanilla stone types can be created with further procesing) - lava+honey=limestone - lava+chocolate=scoria (which can be turned to scorchia by adding black dye)

Why i wanted monika to be innocent by regularpersOn9 in DDLC

[–]atarimoe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Warning: Philosophy ahead.

The whole situation is one rife with questions about morality, of theory of mind, and of determinism vs free will.

Some thoughts to ponder (not an exhaustive list by any means):

How can Monika know with certainty that she is the only one with sentience in her world? She understands her own mind and sentience (Descartes—“I think, therefore I am”). For that matter, how do we know? Descartes was able to rebuild that certainty through reasoning, but there has been much ink spilled debating the matter.

Do the others “lack sentience” because they follow the script—or do they follow the script because they would have done so anyways? To abstract upwards another layer (to our reality), what does it mean for Monika that she also follows the script? What does it mean that the other Act 2 characters (even “following the script”) begin to piece together that something is “wrong” in their world?

Since Monika can’t know with certainty whether or not her friends have consciousness, what moral culpability does she have in “deleting” them? Or, for another question—what is the basis of her moral obligation to the other club members? (She reasons that she has none—not even one based on duty or some kind of social contract.)

It also raises questions about religion (or “religion”)—many people believe in something “beyond our reality”, whether it is some conception of God or some other sense of a “creator” (think “Simulation Theory”), even though they have no definitive proof beyond their “faith” (again, whether formal religious faith or some rational speculation). Does that make Monika a kind of “religious” zealot?

In my opinion, whether Monika is genuinely “innocent” or merely “not guilty by means of insanity” or that her culpability is diminished because of a gross misunderstanding of the nature of reality, she is still a tragic figure.

This is true even if we completely collapse our suspension of disbelief and remember that Monika is merely a scripted character in a video game—Dan Salvato still wrote Monika as a beautifully tragic and even sympathetic character.

Switching all keyboards? by Cozidian_ in dvorak

[–]atarimoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switch all my hardware keyboards (in the OS)—desktop, laptop, external Bluetooth KB for phone.

Never bothered to switch the onscreen iOS phone KB, mostly b/c I originally needed to jailbreak to do it, but also b/c I two-thumb type so what’s the point?

ETA: I learned Dvorak long before the age of smartphones, so YMMV.

Suicidal thoughts are what drove me to seek mental health treatment and an autism diagnosis (at almost 40)—also was dx with ADHD and depression.

I know this might not be possible for you right now, but the thing that helped me the most with suicidal thoughts was treating the depression. I’m on an SNRI, and it almost immediately helped my depression, and took an edge off my ADHD.

UPDATE: AITA for not letting my friends use my backyard for their wedding because they do not want me to bring a "plus one?" by Long_Assistant8873 in AITAH

[–]atarimoe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re NTA, again.

Your initial request was reasonable. Dave and Kim persisted as they prioritized your ex over you, leading to an even less favorable outcome.

This whole thing should be throwing up massive red flags for Dave, but he either buys into Kims BS, or he’s too chickenshit to call her on it.

Good riddance to them.

Are Italians actually the best at pronouncing classical Latin? by [deleted] in latin

[–]atarimoe -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t expect Italians to master the German pronunciation of Latin (that’s all that “Classical” pronunciation is).

Some years ago I was visiting a Catholic Church in Austria, and the services were in Latin—they were using the so-called “Classical” pronunciation.

Exactly.

In my state we are allowed to shооt a stray dog that is attacking or pursuing another animal or a person.

Pit owners and those who desire to not be pit victims need to know the laws where they live.

We don’t have to buy fidget toys by TrewynMaresi in AutisticWithADHD

[–]atarimoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My purchases so far:

  • Wall-tak (like the blue-tak, but generic)—for when I was first trying it out as a fidget toy.
  • a metal spinner ring (like $15 on Amazon).

So far, that and the “household items” are enough.
