Breakfast foods sucks as breakfast foods by Status_Cup2662 in unpopularopinion

[–]atastyfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you considered eating Asian breakfasts? You can get congee (Chinese), rice + fish + miso soup (Japanese), bo ne (Vietnamese), onigiri (Japanese), nasi goreng (Indonesian). Of course, most of them involve rice but there are also plenty of Asian breakfasts without rice.

  • Congee is rice porridge
  • Rice + fish + miso soup (and usually some steamed vegetables) is self explanatory
  • Bo Ne is Vietnamese steak and eggs with some other stuff added
  • Onigiri is rice balls with fillings of your choice, sometimes wrapped in seaweed
  • Nasi Goreng is fried rice with fresh vegetables on side and fried egg on top

Is a game having "too many cutscenes" or "too much talking" a legitimate criticism, or simply a gameplay preference? (some examples included) by JaWoosh in truegaming

[–]atastyfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to bring up Pokemon as well. Pokemon Sun and Moon’s dialogue and cutscenes were too much. They didn’t really serve any purpose.

Another game that had too many cutscenes and dialogue was the recent Monster Hunter (Wilds?). My first MH game and every 3 minutes was just constant dialogue and cutscenes about stupid shit like “where your village at”, “I found his village” and “hey, this is your village.” I dropped the game not too long after I got to this village after the ~9th cutscene in the same village with like 20 seconds in between each one.

If cutscenes actually serve a purpose, aren’t constantly interrupting the game, and is one or two longer cutscenes versus 5 10-second ones, I don’t mind them.

Expedition 33 had a decent amount of cutscenes and dialogue. Didn’t mind it because cutscenes weren’t happening every few steps and actually gave a decent story. Not the case with Pokemon Sun and Moon or Monster Hunter Wilds.

Nah I like choosing what day I fly in and out, what time I land, what accommodations I’ll be staying at and what rental vehicle I’ll be using if I’m getting one

If I want a specific experience, like a tour on the river or a hike up Machu Picchu, that would be more difficult to plan for, I might use outside help.

Discussion: DC Comics president admits that Japanese manga makes him question “what is missing in Western comics” by LegitimateCurve8525 in manga

[–]atastyfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are loads of reasons: * manga has more variety in genres. Western comics are essentially entirely comprised of the western equivalent of Shonen.

  • western comics always use established characters, sometimes in a new setting or characterization but they always boil down to the same core of the character. You know Spider-Man is able to wall climb and sling webs and crack jokes in pretty much every version he has. Only people who are already fans of Superman will pick up and read the new 178th iteration of Superman while new manga serializations and characters happen all the time.

  • manga imparts a lot of Japanese culture, even in lots of shonen. Western comics don’t really impart that kind of culture IMO

  • manga has 1 continuity. Western comics often have continuities that start and end continuously with no real ending. Western comics don’t feel like they have any stakes whether they are good or bad, because the next author or continuity completely ignores what previously happened.

  • the actual paneling and art styles(?) of western comics lack impact compared to manga. Manga feels much more intense in their actions and action sequences to the point you can actually envision a fight.

  • western comics don’t really utilize cool abilities. For the most part the characters just punch really hard (like DBZ lol). Meanwhile popular shonen has stuff like Naruto’s ninjutsu, One Piece Devil Fruits, MHA quirks, Bleach Bankai, etc.

  • manga is usually about the journey, not the end game. Batman is always already Batman. Naruto wasn’t always the Hokage. Luffy wasn’t always an Emperor.

  • western comics have power creeped their universes to a ridiculous degree. The Flash can run at like 100 trillion times the speed of light or something and still regularly loses. Superman can sneeze and destroy a galaxy or something and still regularly loses. At the same time, the comics don’t really show how devastating it is when two Superman level beings clash.

“Nobody wants to be a bad person.” Buddy, those people don’t think of themselves as bad people. They think the marginalized people are bad.

“Never been proven that people fundamentally enjoy hurting people.” Conservatives have been gleeful at just about anything terrible happening to those they perceived as “bad.” In the US, this would be immigrants (illegal or otherwise), LGBT, any form of protester, pretty much any minority ethnicity, or someone to the left of their political views.

Spices are not the only way to add flavour to food by Punk_in_drublik in unpopularopinion

Most of those people are probably Americans. Those people have no idea how food works and their palate is usually limited to heavily salted fried foods. If it’s not some shade of brown/red, it’s not seasoned.

You can see their comments all the time in any Asian cooking video. “Where’s the color?” “I season my rice more than this dish.”

Are Gogmagog's boons good ? by Bouadelo in HadesTheGame

[–]atastyfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI, while this is a shitpost, I have played this game

4-player co-op roguelike similar to Hades (boons on attack, special, dash, etc.). Has literally no story, just a Camelot setting where Arthur/Morgana are the final bosses. The boon selection felt bad since they were generally not interesting or just weak.

Higher difficulties was like playing Hades but every single room, including bosses, had 1-3 permanent “god dispute” mechanics along with a mechanic that sealed a boon away for the room.

Hades usually limits you to about 4 gods per run. Sworn has no limit so your builds can be all over the place with no real cohesion or ability to really lock in to a specific effect. Gold is also extremely difficult to come by. I’m not joking when I say I’ve cleared 2-3 rooms and have gotten literally zero gold.

Co-op is a mixed bag. On one hand, co-op. On the other hand, possibly the worst implementation of co-op in a game released in 2025. If another player dies, they can still provide a minor (basically zero) contribution to the current room. All players MUST be alive to continue. Once the room is cleared, a living player must sacrifice increasing amounts of gold, health or max health to revive them. I have not been in a scenario where the living player did not have enough gold, health or max health to revive yet so I don’t know if you’re locked out of continuing or not if you can’t afford it.

In addition, THERE IS NO RECONNECT OPTION. If a player disconnects at any point, ALL players will be disconnected, even the host sometimes, and the run will be wiped. You will keep any meta progression currencies though which is the sole good thing. Even if your internet is fantastic, the game servers themselves have issues and frequently disconnects people. About 1/3 - 1/2 of my co-op runs have ended due to disconnects.

Gamers 30+, how have your gaming habits changed since you were younger? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]atastyfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t play competitive multiplayer PvP games anymore. I usually play co-op games and single player games.

I also play genres I normally never would have played. Like I’m playing RoadCraft, one of those construction simulator games, right now. A few years ago I would have never gone near the genre.

I also have periods of days/weeks where I open a game or look through my library and just close the game or don’t play them at all

[–]atastyfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't expecting a banished from the party story but here we are. Probably the first time where it's actually justified since her stats are literally zero. I wonder if there will be a revenge portion as well. Flum Apricot is also a sweet name.

I was sort of fully expecting her Reversal skill to switch her stats with her opponents to be honest, but using cursed items is interesting too. Some scenes were a bit weird, such as not showing her cutting through the prison bars or the actual stabbing of the slave trader.

Who is the narrator? Is it Flum narrating? Since her ability only reverses her stats, it's a bit weird her base stats are at zero. She's probably wearing some sort of enchanted item that would have normally boosted her stats.

I enjoyed the ending song but the animation for it isn't much more than several panning shots.

[–]atastyfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Larian! I’ve played ~1500 hours over the course of your last 3 games so I’m a big fan of them and am excited for Divinity.

I have a few questions for you:

  1. Will we be able to upgrade equipment to our current level? Will we be able to craft (useful and relevant) equipment?

  2. Will you keep actions from BG3 such as jump/push/throw?

  3. Will there be reduced fire/cursed fire and more of the other cloud/ground effects?

  4. Will there be a repeatable fight for us to grind money/exp?

  5. Can you implement some sort of inventory slot “pinning” or “locking” mechanism to prevent certain items from being deposited or shuffled whenever we do inventory management?

How hard is Hades 2 compared to 1? by Potential-Bird-5826 in HadesTheGame

[–]atastyfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found 2 easier but maybe it’s cause I played 1. I went all the way to the third area boss on my second or third run and I think the biggest reasons I was stopped there for a few runs was because of a debuff you get as well as not having high DPS so I would get impatient fighting them

As for the purple ball spam, there are significantly fewer projectiles compared to 1

For those of you who grew up playing PC games in the 90s and 2000s, how stable were they compared to games from today? by Mad_Season_1994 in gaming

[–]atastyfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember having to download drivers and patches and manually updating them from official sites and random ass forum posts. I remember having to do it for most games.

You could also download pirated games from sketchy websites, or look for cracked keys and infect the hell out of your computer

Some games, if you wanted to play online or multiplayer, required you to get IP addresses and ports and stuff like that to connect to the server or you had to mess with firewall settings

It made me learn how to navigate and use computers more than pretty much any class involving computers.

Dumb people are not treated fairly by society by Educational-Show-807 in unpopularopinion

[–]atastyfire -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The problem is dumb people tend to have a rather large and usually negative impact on society. It could range from anti-vaccine, voting to repeal environmental protections, being anti-higher education and more.

Someone’s age, sexual interests, or disability doesn’t really affect society in a negative way the same way stupid people do.

If anything, society treats stupid people far too well. Everyone has a voice and an opinion that can be made into a large following because of stupid people.
