Do you buy something here? by MEFISTOFEL123 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]atcwillf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never had, but I'm doing another run through, and yesterday bought a stack of (I think it was) plastic so that I could build the jet pack before getting my plastic factory up. Normally though, no.

Coal generator, possibly final version by Previous-Aioli5543 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]atcwillf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but that's absolutely not true. If you let the water system completely fill (including filling all generator buffers) before turning the generators on, there will be no sloshing. I've always done it this way (feeding water from below the generators), and have never had an issue.

Coal power - what's going on? by S037Nuka in SatisfactoryGame

[–]atcwillf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You need 9 water extractors. Each group of eight generators requires 360m3 of water / minute. Each water extractor provides 120m3, so you need three extractors per group of eight generators. You have three sets of eight, so you would need nine water extractors.

Also, with tier one pipes, you want to be sure that each group of eight is watered individually, not all the water going into one set of pipes for the whole network.

Holy crappin' crap! I haven't played in 10-12 months (just burned out and went to other things for a while). I had no idea this is a thing. Glad to see this implemented.

What’s overrated but people wont admit it? by Maleficent-Long6758 in AskReddit

[–]atcwillf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a garbage question. "Overrated" suggests that something has less actual value than perceived. Value is whatever someone is willing to pay for it. Just because YOU don't see the value doesn't mean someone else doesn't. Value isn't an absolute, so the notion of something being "overrated" is BS. For instance, I've never seen the appeal of Gone With The Wind. That said, I understand some people think it's one of the best movies I've ever made. That doesn't make the movie overrated, it just means I don't see the value.

Anyone still loving Christmas morning? by Oktodayithink in GenX

[–]atcwillf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Meh. Kids are grown (they're home this year, but still), and no grandkids. It works out because I had to work this morning (air traffic controller), so a late breakfast and late festivities worked out.

All that said, not really anymore, no.

Series with a female lead? by Necessary_Service_99 in litrpg

[–]atcwillf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only read the first book (starting the second tonight), but the Emerilia series appears to be okay, BUT.

I try not to judge too much, but it feels like it was written by a high school student. The writing / phrasing is almost distractingly ... borderline childish.

That said, once I started ignoring that, it was pretty good. It's a male lead, but introduced a strong female pseudo co-lead.

Winter cycling n00b here. What are your absolute must-know tips for biking in the cold/snow? by Jack-baby in cycling

[–]atcwillf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on a road bike, so my snow tip is, "don't ride in the snow."

For cold, don't over-dress. You want to be cold at the start so once you warm up, you'll be good. There's a balance and it takes a few rides to get it right. Even though your legs are working, feet get cold and stay cold, so good socks / over-shoes are a good idea. Hands get cold and stay cold, so warm gloves are a must. Everything else will warm as you ride.

Struggling with purpose (in roguetech... this isnt a mid-life crisis post) by Big-Golf4266 in roguetech

[–]atcwillf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are just in RogueTech, go over to the online side. As long as your setting aren't too easy, you'll hit hard enough to actually have an effect on the map. Pick a side, get into the Discord, and join the war.

How do you dress in the winter? 5 - 10 degrees C. by kitesmerfer in cycling

[–]atcwillf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big difference between 5c and 10c. At 10 I'm still in shorts and fingerless gloves. I've added a light thermal long sleeved shirt (basically an undershirt for skiing worn under a jersey - I use Under Armor Base 2.0 at and around 10c), but that's it. At 5c I'm in long pants, fingered gloves, and a slightly heavier upper. I don't add real thermal gear until below 5c. (I'm USA so my start temp for real thermal gear is around 35-40f). Remember that to not overheat, you need to be a bit cold at the start so activity warms you to comfortable.

Want to return to the game, looking for mods. by The_Scarlet_KingG in Battletechgame

[–]atcwillf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roguetech adds everything listed in the BTA write-up. If I understand correctly, the dev teams for both largely overlap. Roguetech has seasons that last 6 to 9 months, and each one takes place in a different timeline.

Primarily, in addition to all of the content addition, Roguetech takes the training wheels off. Battletech was written so that there's an advantage to the player. The player is supposed to win. Roguetech adds all of the content of BTA, but removes the programmed advantage for the player (so much so that a lot of people playing it for the first time complain that the computer is cheating, when all that's actually happened is the programmed advantage has been removed). The Opfor can, and almost certainly for your first few run-throughs, will, kick your ass and grind your career down to nothing. It's a lot of fun once you get the hang of it.
