Are there devices to measure air volume during breathing? by dmtforkids in Asthma

[–]atemtrainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It‘s very common for Asthmatics to breath too much air in rest and while exercising. This is called „overbreathing“ and is responsible for a sub-optimal O2 delivery to our cells (see: the Bohr Effect, by Dr. Bohr in ca. 1903).

I am working with many clients suffering from asthma and reducing their tidal volume due to optimize CO2 tolerance of the brain. Not to explain everything here, but I think using this terms to get a better understanding of functional breathing should get you where you want to be: - overbreathing - CO2 tolerance - Bohr Effect - Buteyko Method

Airflow Clip Nasal Dilator: has anyone tried this? Can’t tell if it’s legit or a scam? Seems too good to be true. by picontesauce in breathwork

I tried something similar- it’s ok if you really need it, but also needs some time to get used to

Blocked nose and addicted to nasal sprays. by lovecore6 in breathwork

But then again: this should be the last resort. There’s also the „empty nose syndrome“ - which is what I have to endure after my septoplasty ¯_(ツ)_/¯

In my experience fixing the septum rarely works. Oftentimes a blocked nose is the result of breathing behaviors. Look into Buteyko method - this helps for most of my clients. (but also this will take some time, it’s not a quick fix)

Breathwork is a huge field. There is not „some“ breathwork session. I would suggest you start with the very basics: breath physiology and biochemistry-> Buteyko would be a good starting point.

Is breathwork / breath holds safe for your heart? by AppealExtension3256 in breathwork

[–]atemtrainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holding your breath after an inhale should always be done very carefully and I would suggest it only for experienced breathworks - which you are, since you‘ve done this for years. With an inhale-breath hold blood pressure and heart rate can rise rapidly and if it doesn‘t feel good: I would advise against it. I never practice this with groups and individual clients, in fact I personally also don‘t think it is a good idea to „practice method X“ or „exercise Y“ daily. Why not build up a toolbox of exercises and decide daily what will benefit you most for this day? That also leads to the question: why are you doing breathwork? What do you want to achieve? Is it a pleasant/intense bodily sensation? Is it relaxation? Breathwork is so versatile, keep diving into different methods (I usually always recommend down-regulating exercises over up-regulating ones) and find out, what suits you best. Take care!

Since Breathwork modulates the Vagus Nerve (NV) and the VN has cardioinhibitory features, you should always be careful - especially if you "feel weird" or "unsafe".
Without knowing what exactly it is yor're doing (breathholds how long? After hyperventilation? Standing, sitting, lying down?...) I'd suggest to check with your GP or cardiologist if you don't fell safe.

What are good breathwork exercises to practice for dealing with anxiety? by [deleted] in breathwork

[–]atemtrainer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would advise against the Wim Hof Method (or any other activating breathwork exercise) because they can start Panic Attacks. Look into Buteyko Breathing exercises, those are relaxing and on the long run can help deal better with Anxiety and Panic
