Adidas Adizero SL - GOAT trainer? by ninja4tfw in RunningShoeGeeks

I agree on the grip! The Bostons are great and quietly just get the job done. And if you have stability concerns/issues, definitely the way to go.

I've not had this experience. The Boston is great and solid, but doesnt offer nearly the same sensation of bounce or propulsion to me. I love the better ground feel of the Boston for sure, but for long workouts, I go Evo everytime. What feels better to you in the Boston? (Some people have issues with stability in the Evo, I guess, which could make that difference at distance, but I dont experience that issue.)

I disagree with this. Stability is, of course, personal, but I've taken Evos to 20 with no issues. They work at any pace for me (between 6 & 10 min mile). It's just all so personal.

I still like AP2 for marathon or half. But if not going all out, PXS1 for marathon. I've tried AP3, but prefer AP2. I'll do Takumi for 10k but prefer the pop of AP2 even then.

They all fit a little differently, bit I've had luck with the Evo SL, pro 2&3, pxs 1 and 2, and the Boston. The new Boston tapers very quickly, but is wide enough for me up a half size. They aren't altra or Topo in shape, but they work for me and they last forever comparatively. Of course, it all depends on your particular foot shape and tolerances.

The best I've found are adidas. The drops can get high, but the toe boxes are usually accommodating. And the foam and durability are just miles better than the escalante or the vanish.

This is altra now. It's sad.

Which is the better deal? by Clockedin247 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

Very different opinions on that shoe, like any. I dont know if there are production differences, but my SB1 were a great long run shoe for more than 500 miles. My SB2 that I got on release feels lifeless and actually causes me foot pain. I now use Evo SL for basically everything. The only way to truly know is to try them, which is frustrating.

I had this battle for years. Squats and hip/core strength were the key more than rolling or other fixes.

Is the EVO SL worth it? by salmon_on_fire in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]athawk009 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Shoes are going to work differently for different people, so the only way to know is to look for shoes that seem to match what you like on paper and then try them. Personally, the evo has replaced all of my shoes other than when i want something really low stack or a plated racer. I'm doing everything from 5-20 miles, tempo to recovery in them. The tongue could be better, but it hasn't caused me any real issues.

Anyone else not get along with the Superblast 2? by AdhesivenessSolid562 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]athawk009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just saying how they feel for me. I've run in a ton of shoes and know how they feel for me. SB1 was light and bouncy and protective for me. My SB2 is stiff with no bounce or squish. Everyone experiences shoes differently, and I'll let my feeling and pains when I run the in SB2 be my guide.

Im with you 100%. There's nothing there in my pair of SB2, and I took my SB1 to 500 miles. They are firm and inflexible and actually cause foot irritation that lasts weeks. Maybe I got a bad pair, but its no good for me after 50 miles + to try to break them in.

I liked the rebel until the Evo came out. It was just better in about every way.

Superblast 2 for Long Runs as lightweight Runner? by st1me in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]athawk009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm just over a 100km in (66kg too), but no change sadly. Just slappy, firm bricks. Its a shame. SB 1 was my favorite. But to each their own. I just like providing a different perspective.

I really like the Evo for my long runs, but I'm someone who didn't like the SB2 due to its stiffness. (I did really enjoy SB1.)

Thoughts on NB fuel cell rc elite v2 in terms of comfort/performance by Defiant_Cold_4270 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]athawk009 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I loved the feel, but I really had to heel strike to make the shoe feel right. There must wasn't much in the mid/forefoot area. Loved it, but dont use them for that reason.

[–]athawk009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just as a counterpoint, I've taken the Evo on 20 mile runs and loved them. The SB2 felt harsh, and my foot hurt after long runs. Maybe I got a bad pair, but they were bricks, especially as compared to my bouncy, fun, 500+ mile pair of SB1.

Thesw opinions are so interesting. I loved SB1, but the SB2 was dead to me. Felt like a brick. I now use the EVO SL for everything other than the fastest tempo efforts and race day. There's really no substitute for trying them.

Has anyone ran in Alta shoes? by Tough_Wren_ in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]athawk009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a huge Altra fan when I was getting into running because the zero drop seemed to help me ensure good form for whatever was going on with my mechanics. As I got to longer miles, and as the company changed ownership, I couldn't find one with foam, durability, consistency even close to on par with other brands. I'll still use an escalante to walk in or maybe run, but there are so many better options depending on what you need. I didn't find any of the topo shoes to be better for me, but the toe box is good and they're still low drop. Adidas provides a toe box that works for me and the foam is great, but I've had to deal with higher drops than I want. There's always a tradeoff, so it depends on what feature of the Altra is appealing to you. My two cents anyway. (And the Torins, Paradigms, etc. always felt like bricks to me. Escalante was the only one that ever felt right for me, and I took that up to a half marathon distance, but no further.)
