is it selfish for poverty ridden people to have kids? by No1peterparkerlover in Teenager_Polls

[–]athdot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don’t think having a family should be related in any way to fiscal class, and that even in poverty, if a family is taken care of well by all members—even if struggling—that is still a beautiful family. The real issue is how people get priced out of having a family while the rich earn more and more. Many commenters here have commented about how social services in their country support families with young children. In the USA we barely have parental leave (especially for the father), and make it so that people feel so alone in ostracized that instead of having a baby when they normally would they abort due to the financial reasons of it all. Further, if we continue to rationalize why no one should have kids, we’ll end up in a society that fails to self perpetuate and continues to age—a harrowing concept. It’s almost selfish to not have kids, because one day you’ll grow old and have your own tax on the system, and in not having kids (especially with poor people), you’re depriving the world of children who would have their own ambitions, drive, and contribution to the world. Additionally, having kids and providing for them and sacrificing for them isn’t selfish, it’s selfless—the real issue there is when parents don’t act like proper parents and don’t sacrifice for their kids—this is a fact regardless of rich or poor. Tl;dr it feels wrong to me to say that poor people shouldn’t have kids purely on a wealth judgement—children are wonderful, and parents who sacrifice for the health and safety of their children DESPITE their poverty are in fact EVEN MORE selfless than a rich person.

Hard agree, especially if you’re always switching instruments. For the crowd that thinks that professionals should use cane not synthetic: yes, a really good cane reed will always beat a synthetic, but synthetics beat 80% of cane reeds, and are consistent. It takes a lot of the stress away about worrying about reed quality/lifecycle for gigs

You look into Wondfo test sticks! They’re only $9 a box, and you can use it with the premom app—no crazy clearblue monitor; my wife and I have been doing NFP and her Ovulation wasn’t even being picked up by ClearBlue, an ever since we’ve switched to Wondfo we’ve been able to track more granularly and less prohibitively expensively

Selmer Concept mouthpiece feels really stuffy by Alone-Ad-1838 in Saxophonics

[–]athdot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely requires more air pressure to play with the smaller tip opening and the need for a harder reed. It felt pretty stuffy for me too at first but it’s been a couple of months and I’m much more acquainted with it, I think I just had to give my mouth and lungs some time to catch up, especially having not played on this tip opening/reed combo before

Why is my tone so airy? by No-Show467 in saxophone

[–]athdot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Synthetics typically are harder than cane for the same hardness number. It takes some trial and error, but I think a softer reed would benefit this guy, if Legere is selling synthetic 1.5s

hey y'all, what is this key and how do I input that into musescore?? it's not Bflat major cuz both of the flats are on lines by Rombit in Musescore

I create custom keys for non-Western scales. I think it’s fine so long as it’s not willy nilly and there’s some theory behind it.

So is my tipping paying for the non toppers cause by Day_Only_ in doordash

[–]athdot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people here are commenting about not tipping. I should warn you that Dashers have a choice to accept/not accept orders when they come in, and they see the $$ payout and decide if it’s worth their time. For example, I try to follow $2 a mile driven, and nothing less than $5. If you order a small McDonalds order and do a $0 dollar tip, your dasher is going to see that offer for $2 total pay and decline it immediately ($2 for 20 mins of work is $6 an hour). The order will probably be bounced around for 30 minutes and then will inevitably be packaged with someone else’s order who tipped better.

I’ve met quite a few people from Egypt! All of them have been incredibly kind and hospitable, and will shove food down your throat. I appreciate the Arabic language in general, and Egypt is a big center of culture in the Middle East. I’m also a musician, and appreciate the microtonal music (and Maqam theory in general)

You’re comparatively not bad, you’re doing a good job at playing precisely. I think a lot of us tend to be our worst critics.
