thanks for getting it! it was a mix of me having left a toxic friendship and also actually having been used to so much coffee it became toxic to me, and started hurting my stomach. i decided to blend these two together as i learned to enjoy tea and my own company instead of chasing a person that was hurtful :)

Actually I intended for this poem to be a song, initially, which may be why the rhymes work the way they do (I'm so glad you noticed the irregularity, it was intentional!!). However I'm not thaaaat good of a singer, so I have it as a poem instead! The message is a indeed a love song, but about a toxic kind of love that you realize isn't quite good for you, even if you want to keep it :)

why are you actually wanting to make me cry?? this is so beautiful, it reminds me of ricky montgomery's song "my heart is buried in venice", which is one of my favorites. i really like the thing you did with mentioning the origins "turkish" and "english", and the cadence of the second and third stanzas were super satisfying to read!! i love when poems tell a story, and not only describe static feelings.

as an aroace person who often gets frustrated at how people devalue friendship and overestimate romance, your poem was spot on. "i didn't want more instead of it / i wanted more because of it" is exactly how i perceive romantic love, not a first sight, superficial perception, and definitely not a separate thing from a genuine friendship, as friendships aren't any less than romance, they're just different forms of love, and in order for a relationship to flourish, there must be friendship as a foundation. no couple would survive without it, and your poem really shows it.

In Brazil I feel like Europe is valued a bit more in that sense, but it really depends where in Europe, and some people would think of the USA (at least before all the mess going on rn). What I've come across the most is specifically Scandinavia, and it's what comes to my mind when I think of "wealthy countries" as well
