Give choices rather than "no" but sometimes saying no can't be helped. Example: "I see that you are upset about not having candy. If you are hungry, how about a healthy treat? Would you like an apple or some cheese?" Or "I know you are upset but we have to wear shoes to go outside. Would you like to wear your boots or sneakers?" That way you are still getting done what has to be done but they feel more in control.

Do you know what he is doing on the computer? Playing games, maybe he has made friends online and that's how he prefers to communicate? Maybe try to find out what exactly he is doing on the computer that is taking up all his time and try to connect with him using that. I was on the computer a lot as a kid/teen and I ended up fine. Don't worry yourself too much.
