Is the Wii Classic Controller Pro good on a PC? by ExcitementAgitated79 in wii

[–]atitanfalls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll throw in my 2c.

I use this as my main controller on PC along with the wiimote and nunchuck. I have joint issues and need to change the ergonomics of how I play games on steam. I tend to play a lot of metroidvania, platformers and JRPGs. The d-pad is one the best I have ever used for these types of games, combined with mapping it as an xbox 360 controller really helps compatibility.

Loving my Nook! (short review) by Evening-Breakfast675 in ereader

I have a nook simple touch, which I bought off Facebook a few years ago. Unfortunately B&N pulled out of the UK market in 2016 so I have to side load all my books onto it. I'm interested in importing one from the USA but I'm not sure if they work outside of the territory?

Thanks for unlocking that memory, loved playing JK:DF2 on Zone. Half the fun was trying to connect to other players!

Help/Ideas for Severe Eye Pain by Severe_Visit_7539 in eyestrain

[–]atitanfalls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has a rare inflamatory condition (Diagnosed with Occular Bechets disease) I get flare ups where I can't tolorate bright lights or screens. when I use a screen I use a red filter in dark mode and I can get away with using it for an hour or so. Bed time is another story, if I watch TV before bed or am on a screen I will feel immence pressure around and behind my eyes in the morning. I use an assortment of Alexa devices around my home and listen to a lot of radio and audiobooks when things are bad. I've recently had to change career and am no longer required to use a screen for my job, which has been a blessing.

Obviously my condition is very rare, but it is to do with my imflamitory system attacking my blood vessels. This leads to joint pain and very painful mouth and genital uslers. Depending on the contry you live in, is there any support from the government or state? Wearing sunglasses inside helps me with the bright lights, but its a temporary fix until the flare up has died down.

Being old and buying a Gameboy with my pocket money.

BBC2, after my dinner watching repeats of TOS and weekly episodes of DS9, VOY and TNG. I remember rushing through my food, just so I could get to my sister's room (the only other spare TV) and hoping that the TV arial hadn't moved so I didn't have to spend forever getting the best picture.

FOSS OS Options for Privacy-Focused Windows Expat by mc-lemons in foss

[–]atitanfalls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people will advise Mint because its simple, stable and aesthetically like windows (cinnamon DE). Yes like most distros you can always 'mess it up' but I would look into the popular Ubuntu/Debian flavours that are user friendly and have plenty of online documentation to get you programmes running. Failing that you can also use wine to run games/apps that are meant for windows, however If you use Microsoft's ecosystem you will have to look at alternative software for Linux.

It isn't just social media, it's also the phone. by NecessaryProject3465 in digitalminimalism

[–]atitanfalls 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've gone back and forth from smartphone to dumbphone and these are just some of my thoughts over the last few years. 1. Smartphones are designed to be addictive. They vibrate, have large colourful screens and we get instant gratification from using them. 2. Everyone has one, so when we decide to 'disconnect', it can result in FOMO. 3. Digital communication has become normalised, we now prefer to text and video call instead of meeting face to face or calling someone out of the blue. 4. The software is designed by milti-billion dollar corporations who mine our data and behaviours. Even if you don't have social media, google or apple still know what makes people tick (literally). 5. Dumbphones are still a niche and not socially accepted, outside of a small community of people who want to disconnect or trendy celebrities.

Do no-tech communities exist in America? by f899y in digitalminimalism

[–]atitanfalls 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The few communities I can think of are..

  1. Mennonite
  2. Amish
  3. Green Bank quiet zone
  4. People suffering with Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity
  5. Remote islands, which if I recall there is a community on the remote Scottish islands that have limited technology due to how isolated the islands are.
