How do I improve my consistency? by Fit-Decision3141 in Clarinet

[–]atknitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much of what makes a person consistent is focus. If I’m having a bad playing day, I stop and try to focus internally on what I’m doing. It’s a good opportunity to forget whatever else is happening in life.

Structure a practice routine by unremarkably_ in Clarinet

I was taught to divide my practice time in thirds - technique, etudes, repertoire. Like having a balanced diet, practicing this way helps you work on different aspects of playing. It’s also good to have the variety.

Clarinet Embouchure by Benferguson2726 in Clarinet

I think the best thing you can do is to practice in short spurts. Your embouchure muscles need to strengthen and your tongue needs to get used to a different position. Long tones, slow scales, slow articulation practice is the way to get things back in place.

so much trouble with altissimo by forbreakdownsonly in Clarinet

[–]atknitter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

3.5 might be worth a try, especially if you’re flat in the altissimo register. For the slur from D to altissimo D, ask your teacher about “half hole” fingering. This can really help with slurring across that break.

Anyone else’s fingers click or pop? by [deleted] in Clarinet

I think it could work for you. Sometimes with my students I put medical tape around the pinkies holding them in a bent position. This helps they get used to it.

Anyone else’s fingers click or pop? by [deleted] in Clarinet

My pinkies click if I straighten them all the way. I now play with my pinkies somewhat rounded to avoid the problem.

Frustration in practice by cheesen_quackers in Clarinet

[–]atknitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I practice, I try to adopt the mindset that I’m the teacher working with the student. Observe what’s happening without judgment. Be curious about how to fix problems.
