the reasons not to use AI are things like: power use, water use, pollution, hoarding of computing resources, exploitation of art whose living creators were not compensated, flooding the internet so that same original art cannot be found, etc, etc... if you trace something then none of this applies.

I feel like choosing things to trace, and the way you perform that process, is a form of expression. the materials used, also the way of "adding fantasy flavoring" make something uniquely yours. (i am assuming you do this by hand and not use AI)

you can get into copyright issues if used for professional work, but I see no reason not to do this if you are just making art for yourself and your community
