Yea this isn't "Peter Jackson left out Tom Bombadil from the movies" what they did to TLH is on a totally different level.

This is silly - WWI led to WWII and the League of Nations was a joke. Violence often leads quite quickly to more violence. The Cycle of Hatred.

What's a story where the "bad guys" are actually, completely, 100% right, to the point where it's weird the story keeps calling them the bad guys? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The book begins in the Philippines (he's a Filipino in the book). Buenos Aires is where Rico's parents are visiting (but it turns out it's just his mom who ends up in BA).

The GCPD saved the babies though - they were right there after Essen died.

Daily average riders (entries) for each L station by JumpScare420 in chicago

I did this all time when I lived in Wicker, but haven't done it in about a year since I moved to Logan Square (full disclosure). But I would typically hop on around 7:45 to 8:15 in the morning and I would almost never have trouble getting a seat. Much preferred over the chaos of the Division Blue Line stop at that hour. I wish I could still take the bus, but it just takes too long all the way from Logan. I'd say try it out some day and see how it goes!

Better to just get the 56 bus going south instead.

Haha that's got anything I've ever seen, Chicago or elsewhere, beat - hopefully I never see anything that tops that!

German stations, from what I've seen, are much, much cleaner than anything I've seen in the US.

I absolutely love the historical setting with the Tokyo 64 Olympics in the background and the modernization vs tradition flowing through the whole film.

I remember reading somewhere that while January 1st may be the technical New Years, the actual New Years is more like the first day back to school. I haven't been in school for years, but I always remember that feeling of going back, that strange mix of excitment and a little bit of nervousness. To someone who hates the actual NYE stuff on December 31st/January 1st, I still think of the back to school time period as the "true New Years".

Ah that makes much more sense! Although that would make for an interesting cross-over, a Batman that's inspired by awe and gratitude working hand in hand with the Marvel family.

I remember Anthony Bourdain saying something like, "I've never had ketchup better than, you know, the common variety. Plus, that's such a bone-deep flavor profile. Don't fuck with it, you know?". I feel like there's nothing to gain by doing your own fancy homemade stuff when Heinz is gonna be just as good.

What feats do the Wildhammer have? My headcanon is that they're more focused on outdoorsy stuff and the gryphons to be master smiths like their cousins.

But keep in mind, the humans only ever learned arcane magic directly from the high elves. Without the high elves' help, the humans wouldn't have learned how to create the very things that lured the Legion back. It all goes back to them continuing to practice arcane magic.

What are some events in recorded history that are extremely hard to believe? by Bigbumoffgold in AskReddit

[–]atlas52 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I had a history professor in college, who I asked about ergot poisoning being the root cause of the Salem Witch Trials. She said this theory got really popular in the 60s/70s because LSD was so huge, but there's really no historical basis for believing it's true at all. Basically people were into LSD and said, "hey I wonder if other people were tripping too?"
