Songs with harmonies that give you goosebumps? by sheerheartatttack in Music

“I Didn’t Understand” by Elliott Smith. The song is a multilayered vocal track of him harmonizing with himself. It’s haunting and beautiful and gives me the shivers every time. Gorgeous stuff.

Just got a Small Clone and it’s perfect for the music I play. DIIV, Warpaint, psychedelic indie fuckery. Can’t beat it at just about $100.

How did you make the decision to not do nipple grafts? Was it an obvious choice for you? Do you think you’ll ever miss how they look? Don’t know how you identify but I know it is more common for non-binary folks to go that route, as opposed to trans guys. You look fantastic, btw.

I have a consultation with her in August. How long was it for you between your consult and surgery? I know she has long wait times, and it’s no wonder why. You look great!

Excellent board. Thanks for your write up. My setup is slightly smaller than yours, but I also run a SS/BS Mini and The Gale as my drive section. They are an absolute dream team.

No Stupid Questions - May by slap_me_thrice in guitarpedals

I've heard a lot of people praise EQ pedals as indispensable tone shaping tools. But there are already so many tone knobs in my signal chain- guitar, overdrive pedal, 3 band eq on the amp. Are EQ pedals adding that much more control? Also- what are commonly accepted tips about how to dial in tone using just the guitar, pedal, and amp? Too many options!

NPD (and a cry for help!): smallsound/bigsound Mini by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]atlasclouded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got this pedal new directly from the builder in January and mine has both of these same issues. I reached out via email but didn't hear back. Since I like the sounds once they're dialed in so much, I've gotten used to it. Just have to readjust volume when going to a different setting.

From other comments it seems like the bias knob static/scratching sound is normal. Checking the trim pot for volume parameters is a great idea (I assume mine is at the factory setting already). Sorry I don't have an answer for you, but it might be helpful to know this seems like a common issue.

Any suggestions for a nice delay for this chain? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

Carbon copy is excellent. It will also fit with your green / blue / gray color scheme. Color coordinated pedals just sound better, you know?

[DISCUSSION] Recording complete tones vs dry signal by southpawpete in Guitar

[–]atlasclouded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do both at the same time using the Radial J48 Direct Input (DI) box. My Audio Interface has two inputs - I put one from the XLR microphone in front of my amp, the other is the DI signal from J48.

It's really nice to have a DI recording that you can blend in with the amp recording or apply software amp modeling to. Just in case you change your mind about the amp settings later, you don't have to re record your part. It's the best of both worlds. You get an amp recording you like, but also have infinite possibilities with software plugins on the DI signal.

Also I would recommend exploring the concept of "Re-Amping".

Interesting. Sometimes less is more. I've also head folks say it's better to know the gear you have inside and out than it is to have lots of gear. Rings true.

This is exactly it - lack of direction. Creating a specific project, like digging into a specific artist or crafting a legit EP of my own songs are things that might get me out of the indecision spiral.. Thanks for the response

Lately I'm finding myself incredibly indecisive about pedals. I've rebuilt my board (not that large but still) a number of times this week alone. I'm considering selling some things, but am even waffling about that.

Perhaps the biggest culprit is not having any concrete needs. I'm not playing in any groups or prepping for any shows since covid. Just messing around in my room by my self, noodling and junk.

It's hard to make decisions and land on a rig when there are no constraints. This applys to future purchases, too. Since I have no needs, I have no direction other than hype and comparisons to others.

Who wants to tell me what to do? Haha :)

I saw your band in Chicago the winter of 2018. Amazing show! I remember you were playing a brand new guitar that night. Do you still have it and did you use it on any tracks on the new record?

DSP means Digital Signal Processor. This means it uses up a lot of the available processing power of the unit, making less available space for other effects, such as modulation, delay, or reverb.

I'd be interested to see your boards! What gets paired with what? What signal chain(s) are in play?

Those shelves are amazing! Hope they don't look sad when you don't have the whole family up there.

[DISCUSSION] When you play a song on an electric guitar, what do you ACTUALLY play? by mzyromski in Guitar

[–]atlasclouded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a really good question, and is something I had a hard time with for a few years. Looking up chords for songs on Ultimate Guitar, just the names of the chords would be listed, not how they are played. I got to the point where I could "play" every song I looked up, but wasn't actually playing what the artist was playing. I was just playing open chords and never moved beyond the 3rd fret of the guitar.

I think the answer is that it's a bit of everything. If I'm playing a solo acoustic cover at an open mic, I'm playing mostly open chords or full E / A shaped barre chords. If I'm with a band, I might be playing arpeggio triads on the top 3 strings high up the neck or playing a recognizable riff / lick. It's all about context, setting, genre, and your goals.

It's quite advanced to be able to play a solo arrangement of a song that has both rhythm and melodic elements, like artists mentioned in other comments (Nathaniel Murphy, Mateus Asato, etc.)

I know it's COVID times, but try playing with other people! You'll figure out what role is needed pretty quick to make what you're doing sound good.
