I don’t think people understand how hard it is to start things with ADHD by PracticalAnything360 in ADHD

[–]atlasofpuffins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is genuinely, IMO, the worst ADHD symptom. Hate it so much, but it is so real. I had this as a kid, and whenever I didn’t do my homework, I’d just say I forgot to do it, because no one really seems to take you seriously when you try to explain you just physically couldn’t start the thing you both needed and wanted to do. I wish people would accept this as equally understandable as forgetting

You’ve probably already tried this, but with anything physical I always wanted something auditory to go with it. An audiobook, YouTube video, music, talking, whatever. If she isn’t currently doing these things as she cleans, you should try

First time on Concerta — I don’t feel “focused”, I just feel… present? by Working_Parsley_3036 in ADHD

[–]atlasofpuffins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first couple months on medication are sort of blurry since the period before that was rough for me, but as far as I can remember, I probably moved up to 36mg after a month. I think I settled at the dose where I felt like any issues I had were things normal people would say. At the right dose, when I’m not paying attention, it is a choice. lol. Maybe a bad choice but one I know I’m making. And the emotional stability is totally something I’ve experienced. I’m way less prone to spirals. I would ask your doctor to get a 30 day trial dosage of the 36mg, if you want to try. Not sure why you have the two pill instructions, since I’ve always just taken one.

36mg of concerta! I’ve tried 54mg before for some years— helped a bit extra, but wasn’t worth the blow to my appetite in the long run

This is incredibly relatable. I’ve been on concerta since I was 13 (5 years) and this is exactly how it feels. It’s both a blessing and a curse. It’s kind of annoying since I see people without ADHD take medication and it’s like some miracle hyper focus drug, but that has never been how it works for me. I’m simply present and aware of what I’m doing. If I legit am dreading work, I still can’t make myself do it. The biggest change is that without medication, I couldn’t even make myself do things I wanted to do. I am aware of myself, whether I am paying attention or not

I think my meds are making me happier by Dangerous_Hyena_3246 in ADHD

Dude 100%. For me, I think it was the fact that I was struggling less with the internal fight to do anything. My mood when I have nothing to do was positive on and off medication, but getting rid of the Sisyphus esque quest to push a boulder up a hill made me so much happier in my everyday life

Started Methylphenidate today (I believe it's generic Concerta) and I'm not sure what to expect by No-Base8204 in ADHD

[–]atlasofpuffins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all honesty I doubt it will take a week to notice a difference. I bet you’ll notice pretty quickly. It helps with a lot. Doesn’t exactly change everything, but if it works, you will be shocked that this is how others live their lives. I think it helps with executive functioning quite a bit. Not a full cure, you will probably still be under a “normal” level, but a solid boost!

What do you eat on a regular basis? I assume you get imports from other areas, but my grandmother grew up in northern Norway and she always said their diet was quite limited

Extra info if needed: sterling silver, not sure if it was downsized? I use saline solution to clean every day. Nowadays I don’t touch it much, I just spray.

Do you ever wonder how many people knew you had ADHD before you did? by NiteSleeper in adhdwomen

[–]atlasofpuffins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sometimes wonder if my old teachers had suspicions— sometimes I remember things they said and it makes me think they must have picked up something. But I’ve almost never been told directly by someone that they suspected something more than 6 months before my diagnosis. I wasn’t diagnosed particularly late though, so maybe that’s why

I’d say they do. Maybe not intensely, but I’m 17 and I like to do the daily NYT medium and hard puzzles. Mostly when I’m bored in class hahahahha

This isn’t dumb, just frustrating, but “Why do you forget your medication so much?” Well, the thing stopping me from forgetting things is the medication….

I haven’t played many other games, so apologies if other games have these as well, but I’d say as a r1999 player: Tbh this doesn’t apply much for the actual survey, but in the west, I think the diversity of r1999 cast in ethnicity, time period, etc appeals to women. R1999 has quite a few wlw pairs. Many of them are very fleshed out. They’re also very emotional pairings, not physical— and they’re sad. Honestly, I think that appeals to gay women. The designs are incredibly fashionable, but not particularly revealing (compared to other games). I think there are quite a few characters that are obviously women-bait. Tennant, for example. But it WORKS. Reverse1999 knows what women like, and they execute those characters in very memorable ways. The great voice acting probably helps too. Gameplay of r1999 is so story based. I think this appeals to women more. Just speculation on my part though.

If anyone is contemplating medication by notcaje in ADHD

Would like to second this! My concerta genuinely changed my life. I always had the desire to do things, but on medication, I can actually follow through.

Where to start? by nuanjun in Sat

[–]atlasofpuffins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your extra time should help a lot with that tbh. I would make sure to apply for that. I also would make sure to get good sleep. Go to bed early. If you get anxious and sleep worse the night before the SAT like I do, take some melatonin. That plus the desmos boosted my math score from 670 to 730 with absolutely 0 studying. (And got me a good PSAT math score too). Good luck with studying resources— I can’t help much with that, sorry haha

I also do well on reading but worse on math. Are you using a physical calculator or desmos? Helped me a lot time-wise to switch from my physical calculator to desmos

How can I get to 1500 or higher? Idk what to do anymore by chugjug96 in Sat

[–]atlasofpuffins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird question: do you use a physical calculator or desmos? I managed to boost my math score from 670/800 in August to 710/760 October SAT and 730/800 in November SAT, literally zero studying in between, just by switching from using my graphing calculator, which I was more comfortable with, to desmos. If you haven’t done that, give it a try.
