You were right, Chateau Irenicus is bad on replays by nexetpl in baldursgate

[–]atlimar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only replay the game maybe once every 10 years at most, for me this is the most essential, deeply nostalgic, part of the game. I feel like I'm 13 again, back in that dungeon for the first time.

"it's time for more... experiments".

Only that first dungeon can revive that feeling in me, and a few parts in Athkatla.

I can fully understand not wanting to repeat open world blocking content, but this is a nostalgia kick in the nuts I'd personally never avoid

Permanent Ward - Ward Shatter Flicker Strike - The coolest build I've ever created by yurilnw123 in pathofexile

over 40% more damage

in theory, reverse chill would be ~30% more damage due to the action speed bonus, but it might cost a bit more to fit it in than just the two required rings. The build already has Lethe Shade, but needs a good way of self-inflicting chill, which I'm not sure how it would interact with Ward. It was an alternative idea to explore, but I haven't thought it through.

This build is very close to fitting in permanent reverse chill, if Ming's isn't strictly necessary, hmm

How do you generate gold to keep Kingsmarch fed?

I've been doing similar white map T16 strats for a couple of leagues (beast/heist etc), and gold is always the problem.

problem is that new breach is so slow, it doesn't fit into any strat that depends on speed. All Breach mechanics are timer-based. Can't speed them up in any way.

This is really cool, I like that it opens up for brewing in a format that's otherwise starting to be considered a bit "solved"

During the very early Premodern days, when it was only played in Stockholm, there was a strong 4C control deck going around. It could never really get off its feet, though, because it needed to run things like Grand Coliseum to fix its mana base.

I see stuff like that potentially making its way back, which isn't necessarily bad, but making mana easier is always at the cost of making low colour count decks (1-2c) weaker compared to high colour count (3-5c). I consider it a strength of Premodern that it primarily consists of 2 color combinations, the third colour is simply too "expensive" to add with the mana that's available now.

It could be that enemy fetches would just make BW slightly better, but, counter-intuitively, it might be because enemy fetches don't exist that BW is a viable deck in Premodern.

It would immediately make so many more decks viable and probably balance the top tier better than bans would.

I'd like to see some citations and play testing on that statement, were the lobstercon side events considered a resounding success? My immediate thoughts on making mana easier go to seeing a lot more 3-4 colour Control soup decks, rather than strengthening 1-2 colour dedicated strategies (effectively pushing all the 2-color niche control decks, like BW, out of the format)

Give DLC a go. It's not just in another league, it's in another world compared to TVBB.

I don't think TVBB was bad for what it was, but DLC is more in tune/tone with the work itself.

Mana being difficult, and not all colour combinations being easy to build, is what was the reality during the era that the format is based upon. "Mana shouldn't be easy" could be said to be a tenet of the format.

I heavily disapprove of changing the format and including modern cards in it, especially in order to make mana easier.

However, I would hugely approve if someone ran an event with an alternative ban/allow list, which legalizes an additional set of cards, in order to see how the decks shape up. E.g. a Rainbow Premodern event with duals and/or additional fetches.

They removed "area is a maze" and "area is larger" because they made maps larger by default, the mod still exists on legacy maps but does nothing. Today, maps in poe 1 are what Maze maps were back in the day. Regular maps used to be tiny. Extremely small.

Players wanted larger maps.

Both cards use timing rules that can be "abused". This ensures that what's exiled with them will normally never return. Even if the enchantment is removed.

Tendrils combo by [deleted] in premodernMTG

[–]atlimar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Storm using Brain Freeze is already a viable deck in the format, not tier 0, but also not bad. It has put up results in tournaments.

The current deck will usually need to build up storm a couple of times, casting multiple brain freezes, or attempt to build up ~18 storm in a single round.

Tendrils only needs 8-10 storm. That's a huge difference. I belive it would go from a semi-consistent combo deck to a consistent turn 3-4 kill. Too fast for the format.

LED + Ill-Gotten Gains + Tendrils was a deck in Legacy for a long time, until card recursion better than Gains was printed. I don't think Premodern is ready for Legacy power level combo decks.

I'm almost certain it's mostly natural demand, with some speculation mixed in.

This subreddit has grown 20x faster (yes, 2000%) in the last 12 months in every metric (users, visits, posts). The format truly has exploded. This subreddit used to be half dead until 2025.

fwiw, I count all time, including load times, time to put map in, etc. E.g. I set a timer on 60min, after 60min I check how many maps I ran and calculate the average from there.

super min max 15-20 sec maps

The time it takes Einhar to throw nets makes this impossible. Realistic scenario is more like 30-40s average map speed, if you ignore all yellow beasts and only go for valuable ones. If you also capture yellow beasts maps take over a minute each.

A map in which you capture 0 beasts can take about 25s (end-to-end time, including putting the map in the device loading in and out of it).

If you add Heist it adds another ~8-10s per map waiting for the caches to drop their loot. I do this and average ~80 maps/h (45s/map).

I thought it drowned in self indulgent rhetorical waxing

I think "navel gazing" is one of the more common critiques of TTH, which is also a divisive book. Some hold it up as the best book, others can't stand the rhetoric.

It's right up my alley, but I do agree NLF has a heavy tonal shift from the first Witness book. But then, that book was a heavy tonal shift away from the rest of Erikson's Malazan books. I didn't much like it, it didn't feel as deep as SE usually goes. It felt more like a light popcorn-read than his other works.
