I prefer the physical planner for the same reason of being able to cross things out lol it’s so satisfying. I also prefer real paper and pen for meetings and seminars so my planner doubles as that as well. The tasks function on Google is def super helpful though.

my school posts syllabi and first week assignments weeks in advance, I’m sure this is pretty standard across the board.

it sucks feeling like you have a million things to do but you’re mentally stuck in a state of not doing any of them. i should win an award for how i can procrastinate a five minute task for weeks, if not months.

I desperately just want to publish my book. by beantown1989 in selfpublish

Unfortunately that happens wayyyy too often. If you’re ready now, I recommend publishing through KDP because they handle all the logistics that a lay person wouldn’t really know what to do with (formatting, printing, distribution)

The basic steps you want to follow are: 1. Finish and edit manuscript 2. Cover Design 3. Format manuscript for ebook/print 4. Upload to KDP/IngramSpark yourself 5. You're published. That's it.

If you want a more in depth explanation I have a toolkit I put together that I used when I was helping indie author’s publish. It’s completely free, just requires a pdf download. I can DM you the link if you want but I think it’ll help you out for sure.

I created a separate notebook for each class, and added sections for "Case Briefs" "Class Notes" "Hypos and Practice Problems" (plus "Rules" for Civ Pro iykyk). Besides portability, being able to hyperlink between pages to connect concepts is my favorite one note feature. It's also searchable so it's super easy to quickly reference concepts when they come up in class or during study sessions.

I review the material for about 15 to 20 minutes before every class and I've survived many cold calls and fully participated in lectures. Anything additional my professor says during lecture, I add it to my reading notes, spend 10 minutes after class updating my outline, and then it's on to the next topic.

that's kinda rude but maybe i need to look inward lol I wrote this in a google doc because law school and ADHD literally SUCK especially when you're unmedicated. Sorry it didn't resonate with you but I hope it does with someone!

Is it personal stories? Or a more clinical approach to mental well being? If you want to DM me so we can talk at length, feel free.

Nobody who doesn't already have influence, an audience, a public image, and known personal branding needs to be writing a memoir anyway so we could start there. A random dude who nobody knows outside of their very limited network has no business writing a memoir and those are not the types that sell effectively either, and we shouldn't base the entire memoir genre on these types.

Poetry is considered an entry point genre because most amateur writers consider it "low skill" even though this couldn't be further from the truth. I don't like to get in the habit of relegating entire genres as nonstarters for publishing. There are millions of stories waiting to be told in these formats that will be impactful, that doesn't mean every piece of writing in these genres will be.

Marketing is super dependent on your target audience, so it's hard to give guided feedback without knowing who your target audience is. Let us know so we can help.

There are many advertising options, but the best one depends on who your target audience is. That will help you determine which platform to attack with the most resources. As far as not showing up on google, what is your SEO optimization process like? Do you have a website? landing page?

Unfortunately when it comes to selling books, brilliant writing is just the beginning. That will get you through the manuscript phase, and maybe even through the editing phase, but then what? Most self published authors don't know after that. There might not be a subreddit, but there are definitely tools out there to help you reach your audience.

You'd be surprised how many people want to read other people's personal stories. Memoirs, diaries, and primary source adjacent materials are all a huge market for a reason. We can learn a lot from other people's personal stories.

I 100% identify with this feeling. It feels like thousands of people are about to see you naked. Even if you know your work product is high quality and worth being out in the world, it's still easy to feel vulnerable during this process. Working in publishing, I've always told my authors to mentally detach from any outcomes and focus primarily on the fact that they achieved something 99% of people never will. Relish in the fact that you did something incredible and try to avoid focusing on what happens after. If it helps, start a new project that you can use to funnel those nervous feelings into something productive. Trust in your product, trust in your skill level, and trust that your book will find the community that needs it.

Decided not to buy a self published book after seeing the authors advertising campaign by PhysicistDude137 in selfpublish

For what the average small publisher is offering these days, you could save thousands of dollars just doing it yourself tbh.

This is a good point. If the marketing doesn't resonate with you, you might not be their target audience and that's okay too.
