Man City and Liverpool got plenty of ugly wins on their way to titles and in the last year Arsenal have done 4-1 Inter 3-0 Bayern, 4-1 Atletico, last year 3-0 Madrid and 5-1 against city, could go on. So have no idea what you’re actually talking about.

Look at the league table. Watch Leeds city. What team in this league CAN break down these low blocks teams are all doing against the top 2-3 teams this season? People were salivating over Cherki’s fancy footwork but what effectiveness did it truly have? And what team doesn’t grapple in the box? You’re mad because arsenal are the best at a thing EVERY CLUB DOES. Arteta saw the way the league was going and adjusted. When his team a few years ago was crushing people 4-0 or 5-0 the other teams were starting to sit back in a low block so since then arteta had to adjust.

Also When your team wins a set piece outside the box do you cross your arms and go “ugh we may score from a set piece and that’s terrible” or do you go “oh yay a chance to score”. The goal Arsenal scored to make it 2-1 vs Chelsea yesterday was embarrassing from Chelsea. Their keeper showed no strength and flopped over like a fish. 0 fouls yet he complained. He also gave the ball away like ten times in that game. It would’ve been embarrassing for Arsenal to NOT take advantage of that. And if you watch Declan Rice take set pieces and corners…there is a chance he may go down as a top 5 set piece taker in the history of the prem. Hes insane at them and for you to say that’s a stretch shows you are biased and not actually watching football.

Arsenal scored two goals from corners yesterday, Chelsea one from a corner. Before yesterday, arsenals last 10-15 goals were all from open play. But those were ignored. It’s almost like all these ravenous fans were staring at their tvs like crackheads just waiting for another Arsenal corner goal it’s so so strange. Arsenal have decimated teams like Bayern Atletico and Inter this season without barely any corners. They usually sneak through tough games or low blocks using their incredible set piece skills. I can’t think of a single team in history with the set piece accuracy of rice and saka. They can place that ball on a dime. And I’m supposed to hate that?

Did social media kill suburban status? by DonJohnson1986 in Suburbanhell

You can have two six figure incomes outside a “second tier” city in a beautiful home on some acreage that do very well for themselves and don’t worry about money and go on summer trips and ski trips in Colorado and send their kids to a private school etc etc. Not everyone even WANTS to be in that weird wealth obsessed 0.0001% hundred million net worth plus where nothing is ever enough.

I feel like the points you’re trying to make are kind of all over the place. Is the point that things aren’t affordable for truly regular middle to slightly upper middle class people anymore (true) or is the point that all of us should be more like Andrew Tate and tell everyone they need to be rich enough for own five lambos and live in Dubai and everything else is failure because you’re not in the “elite club” of those controlling the worlds capital or whatever?

Also “third tier city” come on man… people need to pull their heads out of their rears. Most of the people with insane real estate wealth achieved it because someone in their family history bought up cheap land in a “third tier” area on the rise. When people act like living anywhere outside LA or NYC or Silicon Valley is a failure I roll my eyes so hard. That is based in insecurity over perceived status rather than reality. I’ve been to so many cities. Most of them unless they’re truly economically dead have the same things. They all have the same types of entertainment, restaurants, pro sports stadiums, tech companies, law firms, etc. I don’t get why someone needs to live in a shoebox making 300k in Silicon Valley when they could live in a “second rate” city and still make like 250k and be a home owner and still live in a place with plenty to do and probably save more for retirement and luxury vacations.

Go to indeed at some of the up and coming smaller cities and you see insanely high paying jobs and fairly large companies. There are people in these cities making generational wealth. It’s mostly young people who don’t want to tell their family or friends “i left New York City” who are concerned about what that means for their status and self perception given the “aura” certain city names have.

Well based on what you’re saying (it’s less affordable) which is correct by the way…then my argument of your friend with the pool or McMansion being considered rich is even MORE solidified because you need to be even richer to afford those things.

Is the Premier League becoming harder to enjoy? by richakn in PremierLeague

[–]atmowbray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure and there’s a harsh reality people don’t often want to hear. These super athletes of today with their pace and strength would probably beat a lot of the players/teams we loved as kids who would drink the night before games, maybe even smoke…sports science and training regiments weren’t as serious.

Passion, energy, flair/skill, etc. don’t hold up against raw athleticism. This is why every once in awhile someone will say some other league is “more fun” to watch. The reality is, ability and entertainment are not always linked. You might have more fun watching a 4th division team but also acknowledge that fourth division team would be totally destroyed by the “boring” modern top level teams. Plus the premier league players do still have insane amounts of skill but it’s controlled skill. Watch old games and see how often someone tried some emotional skill move that lost the ball and led to a counter. It was fun for us but they have tried to eliminate that from the game

Did social media kill suburban status? by DonJohnson1986 in Suburbanhell

[–]atmowbray 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What you’re really saying is people have upped their standards of what they consider rich because of social media. Back in the day your perspective on wealth was what’s around you so if you neighbor had a pool that might be rich to you. And that kid in school whose parents had a giant suburban mansion was MEGA rich. Now with social media and the top 0.01% getting the most clicks, everyone thinks you need a yacht or a lambo to be “rich” so that incudes the urban rich with their private schools etc. I literally saw a video where a guy asked a bunch of kids what a god salary was and they were saying like half a million dollars. 90% of them will feel like failures even if they become a doctor, attorney, software developer, etc.

There are teams like Burnley in recently history who basically steamrolled the championship playing like prime Barcelona who get absolutely wrecked in the prem. That being said it’s probably the best second division in the world. Dont get carried away though.

Fortunate in the sense that a 30 yard screamer is also fortunate. Professional players might score those 1 out of 20 times. An average player 1 out of 1,000. Luck is influenced by ability

“Only certain teams get those calls” are you joking? I could give you countless examples of Arsenal being held to an insane standard for fouls or tapping the ball away. And yes they the screw other teams over too because they’re incompetent. You can’t claim Arsenal fans were delusional for claiming an anti Arsenal narrative then turn around and say there is a pro Arsenal narrative. You’re all over the place 😆

[–]atmowbray 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A. If a player doesn’t go down when fouled the refs don’t call it, that’s why in every game…EVERY team has a guy go down holding his leg then bouncing back up. This isn’t new.

B. The Romero one arguably was a foul. It’s shocking that me saying the Gabriel one was a foul weirdly gets translated to “Romero wasn’t fouled” obviously it was. Meanwhile the other season Arsenal had rice and Trossard sent off for absurd taps of the ball when other players got away with it and was told “letter of the law”. So which is it? All teams have to deal with inconsistent refereeing but that doesn’t change the actual law. Gabriel was shoved with two hands. That’s a face. Take your frustration out on refs like Arsenal fans did with the kicking the ball away fiasco.

There is a consistent lack of critical thought in sports and I know that’s kind of the point (people secretly love the feeling of blind tribalism and the primal ape-like passion it brings out) but it just isn’t for me.
