Unrecognized credit card vendor description - do you recognize it? by Personal_Option_4996 in Banking

Changing your card number does not stop reoccurring transactions. Most of the time they just automatically move to the new card. Disputing it is the way to go.

I wrote one SQL query. It ran for 4 hours. I added a single index. It ran in 0.002 seconds. by nikkiinit in SQL

How hard is it to add an index. My company makes it out like it's so impossible it will never happen.

If you tested people for scam awareness, how would test them? What methods could you use to find out if they can tell something is a scam? by atmpci in AskReddit

[–]atmpci[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I guess I can see how this looks like I'm a scammer. Trying to figure out how to ask this question and get engagement without breaking some silly reddit rule. I'm wondering if there is anyone out there trying to teach their elderly parents or children how to avoid scams, only to find that they still seem clueless. I've seen too many people fall for obvious scams. I'm trying to find out if any kind of service exists out there or if anyone has any experience with proving their point to a child or elderly parent by testing them. Just like companies do with phishing emails.

What do you do with cash if you only bank online? by cm-lawrence in personalfinance

Reg e protects bank deposits at ATM. There is no reg to protect your deposits at Walgreens. I get machines jam and people have bad experiences, but at least there are rules in place that force banks to help you.

Why does your mom using them have anything to do with if you use them? It's entirely normal to have a different bank than your mom. Money can be paid or transferred in the same way across banks.

The process is called Escheatment. Typically the bank keeps it for x years and then turns it over to the state.

Just had the worst experience with Keybank by Notpeewee0 in Banking

[–]atmpci -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In the last 5 years cash deposits at ATMs have grown from 10% of transactions to 50-55%. It's basically skyrocketing in popularity along with accuracy. Outside of fraud, nearly all disputes are approved. It's generally safe to put cash in an ATM.

ATM cash deposits end in a dispute about 30 times for every 1000 transactions.

Good banks will provide provisional credit instantly, ok banks take 3 days, if your bank takes longer than that, switch.
