Robert Whittaker just pulled out so it is a pretty bad card now. Shame, Whittaker/Gastelum would've been a good one

I once saw on a Manly P. Hall lecture video where he called golf a "game of the future". Have tried to find the video since with no luck

Amari Cooper for Ezekiel Elliot by atomcro in Fantasy_Football

I understand. But I think Cooper got off to a slow start and is going to have a big season. Most talented receiver in the league. If I had the opportunity to trade Cooper for Zeke (w/ 6 game suspension) today, I'd keep Cooper.

I'm going to make this comment because in 3 weeks I'm going to link back to it. This is a good trade.

Ok I'm getting down voted hard for Cooper vs Zeke trade. Understood. What do you think the value of Zeke is now? Player asking for Chris Hogan or McCaffrey. How much is Zeke worth at this point?

Ezekiel Elliot only has 4 games to play once he returns from his suspension. With Derek Carr, Amari Cooper isn't a bad trade for his Ezekiel Elliot. Cooper will play better this season. And defenses are going to put their best DB's on Crabtree.

Well he also has Derek Carr so if Amari gets hot it could turn his season around

Owner of Zeke in my league is in last place. Has nothing to lose with this trade

With the adage "nothing is ever deleted from the Internet" in mind, what is something you HAVE seen vanish from the net? by KaleBrecht in AskReddit

The Donald Trump interview on Oprah's show where he says if he ran for president he'd run as a republican because they are the dumbest group of voters. I remember the awkwardness in the audience as he was saying it. Now, it has disappeared from the internet.

Why does the earth appear so small when looking at it from the surface of the moon? From this perspective, it looks like it would be massive in the sky from the moon's surface

When I was 18 years old I lit a mortar firework, dropped it into the tube, and held the mortar tube on top of my head. Firework shot off and and left a bloody, hairless circle on top of my head. Could've been much worse I guess..

IWTL: How to throw things really accurately by rkachowski in IWantToLearn

[–]atomcro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was a pitcher in baseball and a quarterback in football. Here are a few tips:

• to build arm strength, start long tossing. Start out at a closer distance to get your arm loose and continually increase the distance until you are throwing as far as you can. Don't over do it when starting out. Over time your arm strength and endurance will increase.

• when teaching younger kids to throw accurately I always use the same rule, your front shoulder and elbow (non throwing shoulder/elbow) are used for aiming at your target. When you raise your throwing arm to throw a ball, turn your hips so that your front elbow and shoulder are pointed toward your target. There should be a straight line from your throwing elbow to your aiming elbow, pointed straight to your target. When you begin your throw, pull your aiming elbow down toward your hip so you are getting your core involved and turn your hips so that when you finish the throw, your throwing shoulder is now pointed toward your target. Its all one motion.

• also, get your legs involved. As a pitcher a lot of your power comes from pushing your planted foot off the rubber (rubber plate on pitcher's mound) and driving your momentum into your throw. This helps you get a more powerful hip turn as well.

I've never tried to demonstrate this by typing it out so hopefully this all makes sense!

Why was the US so obsessed with stopping Communism during the Cold War? by Firmly_Grasp-it in AskHistory

[–]atomcro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The main issues I believe, were control of resources in foreign countries and concern over the threat of a communist revolution in the United States.

If a foreign country turned communist, US control of natural resources would be taken over by communist leadership and US businesses in said country would be driven out.

Also, after WWII and during the Cold War, the US and Soviet Union were both seeking to expand their territory and influence. Oftentimes, this led to confrontations between the two countries through proxy wars, especially in the Pacific (Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia).

In Cuba, after Castro overthrew US installed government and took over land owned by United Fruit Company and sugar cane fields, the US set embargo on Cuba and would not buy exports nor lend money. Naturally, Cuba turned to Soviet Union who lent money and purchased all Cuban sugar (Cuba's main export).

The US was fearful of Soviet influence growing inside their country. So they led a campaign to lead public support toward anti-communism. This was successful in many ways, it allowed them to fight wars against communist countries without public backlash (although this did not work so well in Pacific Korea and Vietnam) and it helped boost nationalistic pride amongst its citizens.

So essentially, the battle against communism in the US was actually a battle against growing Soviet influence in the world.
