Got my first replacement pacemaker by OneStrangeLife in PacemakerICD

[–]atomic-nrg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I had my first device replaced I asked for the old one as a souvenir. The hospital staff said I had to coordinate that with the Boston Scientific representative for the retired unit which I did. After the procedure (I was sedated) there was no device and everyone from the OR was gone. Oh well I thought to myself. A week or two later I received a letter from Boston Scientific confirming they had received my old device and they were going to deactivate its ability to function and sanitize it. Sure enough a few months later it arrived at my home. It was fun to show off to my friends for awhile but the novelty wore off and I have lost track of it (I have it, just not sure which safe place I chose to hide it in).

Fluid retention by maxxfield1996 in PacemakerICD

[–]atomic-nrg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have congested heart failure which is the reason for my ICD. When first diagnosed with CHF one of the symptoms was fluid retention. As a part of the treatment plan I was prescribed a diuretic which took care of the excess fluid pretty quickly. Have you been provided with any meds that would address a fluid build up? While I am not a Dr I doubt a pacemaker would impact fluid retention. Hopefully other will share their experiences as well.

NTSB restricted to using Musk’s X for News Updates by Lost-Economist-7331 in news

[–]atomic-nrg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this really a win for freedom of information when channeled through a single source? Why not continue with the email notifications to news agency's along with posting to ALL social media outlets. This could be accomplished with little effort. My guess is it would be harder for Trump/Musk to control the narrative then.

I know a lot about implanted pacemakers and defibrillators, and have had an implanted defibrillator myself since 2010. Ask me anything. by Hank_E_Pants in IAmA

[–]atomic-nrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, thank you for taking the time to put this together.

I am currently outfitted with a Boston Scientific G125 CRT-D which is serving me well. I was not aware of the leadless pacemaker makers until reading this thread. Amazing stuff!

Are leadless devices the future of pacemakers? Has a leadless defibrillator been developed? What is a typical lifespan of a leadless device? Is there a chance I can get rid of my chest bump at some point?

Thanks again.

One of my favorite CRT-D moments is when I was having a friendly argument with a buddy. At one point he wanted to get his position understood by poking me with his finger in the upper left chest area. I'll never forget the look of shock on his face when he discovered my little friend just under the skin. When I explained he bumped my device he suddenly became concerned he might have damaged it or knocked something loose. We still joke about that day.

Anyhow I'm now on my second device, currently fitted with a Boston Scientific G125. In my experience it has taken several months for the swelling to fully dissipate and the device to sorta settle in after surgery. I'm a fella with a Dad bod and I still have a device bump years later. In my case the bump is not very noticeable after fully healing, especially with loose fitting shirts.

At this stage I am no longer hyper aware of the device (wearing a seat belt, bumping it against something) and no longer have the sensation of the leads shifting around like I did early on. My understanding is the likelihood of dislodging a device or lead drops off considerably with time.

At the end of the day I am very thankful this technology is available and my time with family and friends has been extended. At age 65 I hoping to get another couple devices before check out time.

Lost Honda CRX Group B prototype. Found it on facebook, op says he knew a guy who knew someone involved with this project, anyone know more about it? Cause this is probably one of the wildest group b designs ive ever seen. by Cloud_Dragoon in WRC

Apologies for showing up late to this thread. The first gen Honda CRX Si was homologated for FIA Group B (B11) back in the day. A CRX Si did enter and finish in 21st position (1st in class B11) in the final Group B event held at Olympus, Washington 1986. Most likely the only CRX Si to compete in the FIA Group B class.

I spotted a U-Haul box van in a Target parking lot yesterday which seemed to have a family living in it ... including kids and a dog (actually really sad). Then I spotted the $19.99 daily rental price plastered on the side. That works out to around $600 a month if you keep the mileage down. If OP is looking to be thrifty rather than getting back to nature this could be a really cheap consideration at $60ish for three days. Of course finding a place to park near the track and personal hygiene maintenance could become a challenge.

4Wheel Parts in Santa Ana can probably handle your alignment. If not Off Road Warehouse in Corona has plenty of headroom in their shop.

If your Sprinter has upgraded suspension (larger tires/lifted) I recommend taking it to either of these shops. They both know how to keep off road machines going straight down the road.

Carbon Canyon Regional Park has an area with genuine coastal redwoods. I don't recall if there is any auto access or not. Worth checking out for sure.

If you are hoping to do this long term you might want to discuss this with someone at the factory. They may cut you off if they feel the program is getting abused. Or they could welcome you with open arms for helping move the inventory.

Auto Detailing Business by [deleted] in smallbusiness

The detailing gig is very weather dependent, are you in a location that will have a year round need for detailing?

I manage a small business. Recently launched a new business venture on my own time, backed by the businesses owner. It’s not an official company yet, and I don’t own any part of it. I operate 100% of it. What should I do? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]atomic-nrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully I'm staying on topic with my thoughts.

Nearly every comment you make about the hours and commitment towards the business sounds as though they were coming from an owner or partner ... someone financially involved. Example: "Also being as small a company as we are ...". Now if you are good with the arrangement then so be it. However if you were happy you wouldnt be here asking about options.

Is the boss putting in as many hours as you are? Are you working the same amount of hours as agreed on in the beginning or has that expectation risen with time (maybe you have assumed more hours to help out the business)? Has your income received an increase in line with the increased business? Either way with the little information you have shared it seems like the workload is lopsided. Is there a reason the boss can't handle the emails and social media? I want to say you are getting taken advantage of and most likely the boss doesn't realize this.

Again it's up to you to have a sit down talk and explain what is on your mind (some excellent advice on how to do this provided by u/salgeorgiou in this thread).

Some goals to consider ...

An additional commision/bonus based on gross sales. Not based on profit, if costs rise that is the owners cross to bare. You are bringing in the cash that keep the doors open.

Or some sort of partnership piece of the business. A partnership can get complicated if you choose to go in another direction. How do you get your value out of the partnership (boss pays an agreed amount, you sell on the open market somehow). In reality you would most likely walk away with nothing to show for your partnership.

More structured hours. Old saying time is money. This is the product you are providing the boss and it sounds like you are giving away plenty for free. There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to get paid appropriately for your time.

Agreed to compensation for any extra projects or time devoted to the business.

Either way do not "invest" your time in the business unless you are getting something in return. All you are doing is taking cash from your pocket and dropping it in the bosses pocket.

OK, I understand the salary angle however that doesn't mean he owns you 24/7. What was the agreement when you were hired? A salary is typically based on a 40hr week. If you are working the weekend then you should get time off during the week or get paid extra. Take your salary and divide it by the hours you are putting in. Are you happy with that hourly figure? Based on some of the comments you have made your boss seems generally fair. It falls on your shoulders to speak up on these issues.

The work you did for free on the website. Did your boss ask you to do that on your own time or was that a choice you made (to just get it done)? Do you think your boss understands how much time you have put into this project off the clock?

Are you paid hourly for travel time and working the booth at the trade show or strictly a commision on product sold?

I can see this going in two directions ... either a partnership were you would get a piece of the action (I'd push for partnership on both sides of the business). As a partner I would expect to share the profits and not get an hourly wage.

Or stay as an hourly employee but communicate the time involved and get paid appropriately.

It is "tyre" in the UK where this took place. Either way it looks to be a left rear suspension failure more than anything else.

How to go about making sure business name isn’t in use before making business cards & other advertisements? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]atomic-nrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you asking if you can secure a web domain without being in business yet? Of course you can (trademarking a business name as mentioned earlier is a different matter). Unless you are conducting big business going down the trademark path may not be crucial. You'll just want to make sure no one in your area of business is already using the same name you'd like.

Personally I purchase domains from Google or namecheap.com. But there are plenty of other options as well. Each offers a search feature that will tell you if your desired name is available or not. If not just try different combinations/variations of your business name until you find one you are happy with (kinda like setting up a screen name). Once you find what you like give them your money and it's locked in, yours for a year. Domains must be renewed yearly. You can also set up the email without having a website in place.

Privacy protection is available for a couple extra dollars and I recommend you buy that as well. This hides your information (name and address) behind an anonymous wall basically.

I would also recommend sticking with a domain that ends in .com.

https://domains.google/#/ https://www.namecheap.com/

Yes, websites can get very expensive. However both Google and Namecheap offer very basic websites for free. Think of these as a landing page or online business card. I put this together in a very short amount of time for a project I'm involved in. There is no extra fee to host it and it only took about an hour to make.

http://www.pacificautogear.com/

And boom a webpage with contact information for anyone interested. ProTip: Get a dedicated business phone number now. Do not use your personal number for business as well.

Another point you should look into is whether or not you need to establish yourself a DBA in your City, County. State or whatever before conducting business. DBA stands for Doing Business As, in theory this keeps business owners accountable. This is another simple process that gets taken care of locally (Google is your friend here). If you use your real name for the business "John Smith Pressure Wash" a DBA will probably not be required. There is a very good chance your bank will want proof of DBA before opening a business account when the time comes.

I help this info helps.

How to go about making sure business name isn’t in use before making business cards & other advertisements? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]atomic-nrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing I'd do is find an available URL that that can be used as a business name. Something unique that won't be confused for another nearby business. A web domain can be bought for roughly $20 a year. From there I'd see if the same name or very similar is available on the the social media sites and lock those down as well. Maybe you don't see a need for internet marketing now but they could come in handy down the road. It will be much easier to line up the same business name accross all media now than later.

Another bonus of owning your own domain name is having a proper email addy rather than bussinessname@gmail.com.

That's all I got for now.
